Purchased a used '13 Jeep GC @ a dealer in Denver last autumn and last friday I brought it to our local dealer to remove the snowtires, check the factory recalls and to have an oil-filter change (first one while in our possession of the vehicle). They were unable to remove oil pan drain plug and said the bolt head became "rounded" with repeated attempts and that the oil pan would need to be replaced at a subsequent visit & at a cost of $1400 (initially I was told over the phone 1400 and later was told between 1100-1400). I was told the ONLY alternative was to remove the oil pan but that I could contact the dealership conglomerate that last changed the oil in Boulder and/or that my auto insurance company might reimburse us for the necessary repair. I asked if the oil pan drain plug could be removed by some method or drilled out....No. When I picked up the vehicle, I reviewed the printed invoice (#1 - 01F: CHANGE OIL AND FILTER ON A GAS ENGINE Work performed by _____ COULDN'T PERFORM LOF. DRAIN PLUG WOLD NOT COME OUT. RECOMMENDED OIL PAN REPLACEMENT. CUSTOMER DECLINED and scheduled the earliest available return appt for the oil pan in two weeks. At home, I crawled under the vehicle to view the rounded drain plug bolt head and found the bolts on the skid plate didn't appear to have been touched (to remove the skid plate for better tool access like with a pipe wrench) and GOOGLE searched (rounded oil pan drain plug head). Monday, drove to Doc's Auto Clinic to discuss the use of pipe wrench after removal of the skid plate vs. an alternative method like an Irwin bolt grip socket and to schedule the next available appt. Doc reassured me that he couldn't recall having to replace an oil pan because of stuck-rounded oil pan drain plug. Yesterday (thursday) @ Doc's, the "rounded" drain plug did require two bolt grip sockets (first one cracked) for removal but didn't require removal of the skid plate. In their opinion a flush of the crankcase was not required, based on inspection of the drained oil (coincided with previous documentation of the oil changes/mileage on the Carfax when we purchased the car). They placed/gently torqued in a new magnetic drain plug (I had prepurchased @ auto parts store), replaced the filter and filled the crankcase with synthetic blend (my request) all for $60. Happily (relieved), my credit card payment and thank yous were accompanied by a couple of cold, six packs of assorted microbrews from Arctic Liquors and my assurance that both of our vehicles would now be serviced by Doc and his adept team. The four indiividuals that I had any contact with (@ Doc's) could not have been more professional, amiable, competent and confidence inspiring. Disclaimer-My only previous contact with any of the individuals at Doc's was with Doc during a group mtb trip to the Hillyard-Fowler-10th Mtn Div hut last summer. (On the drive home I did stop by the dealership to cancel the oil pan replacement appt, speak with the service manager about the experience-outcome and that we would no longer be bringing our vehicles to their service dept-previously 10 yr relationship with 4 vehicles). read more

1-Off is 1 and done! Stay far away from this family-owned rip-off joint. Asked, "How much is an oil change?" I was quoted that it would be between $125 - $150, depending on how many quarts of oil was needed. Okay, dropped my vehicle off the next day for an oil change. Picked it up later that afternoon, $285 said the girl at the desk. The owner/manager came out and gave me some BS reason why it was twice as much as quoted and twice as much as any oil change, I had ever done prior. Steer clear of this place for sure! read more

Dropped off our 2016 F350 SRW at the appointed time of 9am for an oil change, fuel filter change, tire rotation & computer scan. They called late in the afternoon asking if they could keep it overnight as the 1 lift large enough was needed for another vehicle. When I arrived next afternoon at 12:30 they were just taking down off the lift. I was billed $1,054.12. I was charged $263.38 for the fuel filter (part). On NAPPA's website, the exact fuel filter is listed at $197.99. I asked the service manager if the fuel filter price was correct. She said yes. About an hour after posting I received a call from the owner. I don't think he had read this review as he never mentioned it. He did, at length, apologize. Stating it was a product of a software package which they pay monthly for. He offered a partial credit back to my credit card. $65.39 just showed up:-) Bottom line, the owner's call made all the difference. They will have my future business. read more

BEWARE! THIS PLACE IS SHADY! BEWARE! I would go anywhere else!!!!!!!!!!! This morning, after waiting a week for an appointment, I brought my 2006 Mazda3 into Doc's for an assessment of a steering wheel shake. The lady behind the desk was friendly and welcoming. Judging by her professionalism, I felt I was in good hands. She said they would take a look, and get back to me via phone. Later that morning, I answered my phone to learn Doc's estimate to fix the shaking was $1400. I politely told the lady at the front desk I would get a second opinion, and she said that was fine, but I owed $61.33 for their services. I was shocked. There had been no information provided to indicate that an assessment fee of $61.33 would be charged. There was also no visible sign indicating this charge, and the woman had made no mention of it as I had handed her my keys that morning. I made my frustration clear to her, and asked to pay $30 instead. She left the office and came back to say her manager indicated the $60 was discounted out of the price of the future car work. The car work suggested was $1400 to replace lower control arm bushings plus an alignment and balance. She asked if I would like to speak to the manager. I declined telling her I would never be back. The manager made no effort to talk to me in person. I will find a more honorable place in Denver. It appears that being in a closed market ski town like Steamboat that this company can jack up their prices and get away with it. I have no problem with an assessment fee, but that needs to be voiced or agreed to before the work begins. It should not be treated as an after thought. This company will rip you off and not think twice. They don't seem to have any desire to create a loyal customer base. Attracting customers doesn't seem to be a problem for them. BEWARE! read more

Not knowledgeable on finding parts for vehicles. Parts are almost tripled on estimates. Seemed like they try to find bigger $$ job in minor jobs. Left a horrible taste in my mouth for trying a local business for first time. Curious to them taking advantage of a women bringing car in for work??? BEWARE!!! Get a 2nd opinion. My daughter was working in Steamboat for the ski season. Her muffler had rusted out, and the tailpipe was hanging. She took it to Doc's. They gave her an estimate for over $3000!!! She declined the work, and was charged $64 for the estimate! I have NEVER been charged for an estimate in my life! Nor should muffler repair be $3000! She ended up coming home 2 weeks later. I took it to my local mechanic, who charged me $585 for the fix (including an oil change). Shady!!! read more

Really great experience here. I was traveling through on vacation when my car decided it was maintenance time. I called and they were able to get me in the next day for an oil change and transmission flush. They had an easy night drop so I was able to use my car the day before service and not have to get up crazy early to drop it off. Recommend them for certain! read more

When we move to a town, we always look for a great mechanic that we can drop our car off with and never worry if they are being fair or not. Doc's Auto Clinic is a very clean and friendly shop they where very helpful with my problem.

I made the mistake of bringing my reliable and fully functioning vehicle to Doc's for what should have been preventative maintenance replacements of parts based on the mileage. I was quoted a 1 day turn around and my vehicle was held for 3.5 weeks. Parts and labor for parts broken during the repair that I did not approve totaled over $800. I was told on three occasions that work was complete and after paying my bill three times I drove away only to have the vehicle overheat just a few blocks down the road. I was told by the shop to simply "limp it back in" despite everyone knowing that overheating and driving a vehicle creates long term damage. My vehicle never overheated in my years of owning it. I was screamed at and then apologized to by "Doc" (Brian) after finally simply requesting he return the overheating vehicle for me to have someone else fix it. Doc stated to me that he had no proof my vehicle was functional and driving prior to this work despite having my tire replacement just a week before showing on his own books. I was hung up on by Doc after he stated that I just didn't know what I was talking about and that he wouldn't talk to me and I should just have my husband call him. And I now have a vehicle that is no longer trustworthy to drive out of the county. Are you needing auto repairs? My wife and I are from Wyoming and are in Steamboat for some orthopedic surgery. We have a 2019 GMC Acadia which we drove down yesterday. All was fine until the this morning, the day I am to have surgery done, and then it the car went haywire. The DIC was giving multiple issues and wouldn't start. After calling several different dealers and shops all of which couldn't or wouldn't help resolve our problem. I used the internet to search and came across Doc's. What a God send. I spoke with Jenna(?) on the phone and explained our situation. Jenna said if we could get the car to them they would work it in. We got a jump start and drove directly to Doc's and left the car. Within 2 hours they determined that we had a bad battery and would have us back in business tomorrow with a new battery. If there were a 10 star rating they would get it from me. Being new to town I went to Doc's for an oil change because of the good Yelp reviews. It was the most expensive oil change I've ever had in my life and they told me I needed $700 of work done. I called my trusty mechanic of 10 years back in California; he was shocked and told me, "what you need done shouldn't total more than $260 including parts and labor." It is either they don't know what they are doing or they are attempting to scam you out of your money and time. Went in for a simple tire alignment after I replaced my tie-rod end, so obviously the steering was going to be out of whack because i wasn't accurate with my measurements. They called me a little later to tell me that it had some issues with the steering column and my car was going to have to stay overnight with an extra $350 added to my $100 bill. I did some research, took my car back to look at it myself. I measured the front and the rear of the tires in the front of the car and readjusted the tie-rod end I replaced. I took my car to another shop to get the alignment and told me my rear tires needed an alignment but my front tires didn't need to be aligned. Basically doing the front alignment myself and guess what, I did it without spending a ton of money. Don't use Doc's Auto Clinic!!!!!! read more
