Literally called Mikes shop TOO early in AM and couldn't believe he picked up Xmas week. Had driven my wife's Jeep to Airport to get my grandson and noticed some shake. When I got out I checked tires and front right was cupping and very worn due to us not rotating tires consistently. My bad...My whole family grandkids visiting us and I was feeling sick about taking the chance with bad tires up front. I went to his shop to get his expert opinion and he said he was slammed with jobs. I think he saw how desperate I was he said he'd slip me in and rotated and balanced my wheels in 20 minutes! Said tires were in need of replacing soon but would suffice till after holidays! He saved the day and I'll be able to sleep knowing we are safer. Jeep ran smooth and true. Brian at Westside Auto in Steamboat saved our trip. We came up from Fort Collins for a volunteer project over the weekend, only to find the engine overheating badly on our way out of town Sunday. Based on other reviews, this shop looked like a decent bet so I called first thing Monday. Spoke to Brian and described the problem - he ran thru some simple questions on the phone to help diagnose the issue, helped determine we could drive the car safely over to the shop, and told us he could take a look right away. As soon as we arrived (at opening time) he took a quick look and spotted the issue immediately -- a belt rubbing on the radiator hose had torn a hole in the hose. Unfortunately nobody in town had the replacement hose, so we had to wait 24 hours to get the new hose, but they ordered it and took care of us. We found a rental car, drove home, and I came back the next day to find the car totally fixed and back to its old self. These guys seemed totally honest, down to earth, friendly, and helpful. They didn't overcharge even though they probably could have, and they took the time to help us out knowing that we were in a hurry to get home and totally "stuck". I would definitely recommend them, and would definitely go back to see them if we ever had a car issue again while visiting. I almost wish I had needed work done. I came from the mountains carrying a motorcycle and a big uhaul with my Tacoma. My breaks sounded like they were shot and I was in the middle of a cross country trip with no time or cash for a big brake job. They saw me practically immediately, took a look at my brakes and assured me The brakes were good for another couple thousand miles. Here I am in California and the brakes are still good. I had to have my oil change on my car and the guys were all not only very nice but got my car in on very short notice. Plus got me in and out very fast. Mike and his staff have never let me down on the work they have done on any of my past vehicles and the price has always been super reasonable. Which is not something I can say about other places I have used in the past. As a woman Mike and his staff have never been condescending when I describe what's going on with a vehicle or treated me like I'm imagining things. The owner quickly hustled me out of the garage into the office. I was doing business there for a big uhaul and had talked to him about auto repair, but at that point decided to take my car repair business elsewhere. read more

Westside literally saved our vacation! Our car wouldn't start at 4:30 pm on a Wednesday in the fish creek falls parking lot. We first called the Ford dealer in town, mechanic said it would be the following Tuesday for first appointment. I explained that we were in town for 2 days and Ford said they could.look at it Friday at the earliest. This was just to.diagnose the problem , which we knew had something to do with gears. We then called American towing, who said they would be right out and tow it to the shop next door, Westside Auto. Boy, did we get lucky! I was thinking that we'd have to rent a car to continue our road trip, or book another hotel, or even just fly home, and I even reserved a rental car for Thursday . I also worried that we'd get a $3000+ estimate for a new transmission or something, and the car is ten years old. Long story short, Drew called early the next morning; not only had he diagnosed the problem, but he had gone to the scrapyard and located the part! It was a burned out wire that was the problem, but my hubby had broken the gear shift handle and that needed replacing too. It was less than $300!! We were having break issues - the pads had worn down by the end of our trip into the mountains - and we thought we would be hard pressed to find an auto repair shop open on a Saturday. Not so! Owner has consistently been very rude to me. Twice now I have made an appointment with them and have received no update on the vehicle during the day. When I call at the end of the day, I get a very curt response on the other end of the phone letting me know how busy they are. On this second visit, the owner lets me know they may not have time to get to it at all (despite my appointment) and does so in a very rude manner, making me wish to take my business elsewhere. If the shop is busy I understand, however I would prefer to take my business where customers are treated with some manners and respect (which many other shops in town manage to do). read more

Mike at West Side is our savior! We drove up from Denver to enjoy the weekend at Strawberry Park, but as soon as we arrived in town the clutch on my Subaru went out. The good news was that we had safely made it to Steamboat, but the bad news was that it was 5pm on a Friday and all the mechanics in town were closed for the weekend. We absolutely had to be home by Sunday night and of the mechanics who did answer, they wouldn't be able to get to our car by Wednesday. Naturally, we freaked out. My AAA was basically useless at this point, but we did finally call West Side Auto and Mike was willing to take a look. The car barely made it there, and Mike had it done by the next afternoon. On top of this, he loaned us a complimentary Subaru for the weekend. Good luck it seemed, but Mike was really the one to thank. He diverted a seemingly ruined vacation and erased any inconvenience, and he didn't charge us an arm and a leg for the new clutch. Solid. read more

I would not recommend Westside Auto, if your trying to get a repair on your vehicle. Last time I was there, I was charged over $300 for putting a screw back in place with locktite. Instead of receiving a call by the mechanic saying the different options I have, I get a phone call saying my truck is done and will be over $300. Once I get there I drive home to find out that they didn't in fact fix any problem and my entire tank of gas spilled on the driveway a second time. Their horrible repair only lasted 81 miles since my truck left the shop. I went back to get it fixed thinking they would help me out, but nope. They charged me again for more than $300 repair that only lasted 190 miles since it left the shop.... Lousy repair and shop. Hopefully the boys get there stuff together read more

A total disappointment. Brought my car in because it was overheating, later that day I got a call from them. They gave me no diagnoses on the car and told me that they couldn't do anything but still wanted $100. Upon arrival I checked out my car before going inside, come to find that they broke my hood. I went inside and let him know that the hood would not open and he acted as if I was making things up. He came out to my car with me, couldn't open my hood, then proceeded to hit my car with a screwdriver trying to open it. After him not being able to open it himself, he claimed the now broken hood (that I was completely capable of opening on my own before bringing it in to this shop) as not being his fault (even though he HAD to open my hood to work on it, obviously) followed by saying "I didn't want to work on this car anyway." He was completely rude and walked away saying "Have a great day" and left me with a car that's even more broken than when I brought it to them. This place was even hard to find. It was in a junk yard with lots of garbage. I was in town visiting and they were aware of this. If Yelp allowed it I wouldn't even give them one star. read more
