But I usually get bored and eventually change the station. I used to listen to Mancow occasionally when they carried his show in the mornings. I think he's on an a.m. station now. I do keep 96X on my saved stations for when I'm in the cock rock mood. If they happen to be playing music at the time, they usually don't let me down.

Like MTV, I and many other's are asking 96X "Where's the Music?!!!" Every time I tune into this station hoping to hear some Phoenix, B.O.B. or even some Nine Inch Nails all I hear is Mike and Bob. Why is this show interesting/funny again? Two New York guys talk about mundane subjects such as "movies with lines in them" and they run the show for the entire day, with like 5 minutes worth of music every other hour?! What is this? The early iteration of what became 106.9 The Fox was what brought my family to Coastal Virginia. A…read moremedia group in Atlanta was where my late husband & I met. He was Director of Broadcast Operations. I was Assistant Controller. My husband's long time mentor, the VP of Radio, left to form his own radio chain. About the time the media group was sold, our friend bought the station that would become The Fox. He offered an equity interest for us to move to Virginia. Since our choice was between Des Moine, IA or Norfolk, VA, it was a no brainer. The transmitter & tower is located in Windsor, just below the line where 100k stations are allowed. Other local stations are only allowed 50k. So the signal is powerful. The studio at that time was in Suffolk and the format country. The call sign was WSKX-FM, Kx106.9 Space was leased in what was then the Holiday Inn Waterside (old Golden Triangle, now Wyndham Garden Norfolk Downtown) . Gutting of the space required a total renovation. I loved getting to do the Interior Decorating. It quickly became evident that the country format had a competitor that would stoop to anything to provide for their continued success. A format & call sign change was planned with a new Program Director & DJ staffing. This began WAFX, 106.9 The Fox. The new format was an immediate success. I'll never forget sitting at the Traffic Computer, before the internet, waiting for the ratings to come through. I was the only person who knew how to pull them. DJ's kept popping their heads in to see if I had answers. Finally.....I did. We were #1 in all our demographic groups. It was a different age of radio then. Cart machines were used instead of computers. Promotions used then would not be allowed by insurance today. Burying a Dj with a breathing hole & hose or freezing one in a block of ice were big attention getters in the late 80's. There were perks. The Fox Mascot came to my son's birthday parties, school & scouting events. Families were needed to participate in large promotions. My young son hung out in the control room, loving to put the carts back into the racks. This didn't go over well with his Dad, who immediately took action. There were near accidents on my street when the first remote van sat in our driveway while being programmed by my husband. But there were also late night calls when power went out in Windsor. My SUV was used to transport diesel fuel during extended outages when the generators were low on fuel. It's not fun when a late night DJ calls at 3am because he spilled coffee into the control board. Hearing a very wide awake "radio voice" asking for my husband made it worse. You're not supposed to sound peppy at 3am.:) It was the best of times. The station was sold at the height of pricing for radio stations. We left radio after so many years because we didn't want to leave Virginia Beach. The world of radio has changed. The old Fox music library now resides, untouched for many years, in my late husband's home lair. The current station owner has studios in Chesapeake. The station is still successful, The format has outlived both my husband & his mentor. And I still keep memorabilia of that glorious time.

Unfortunately, I was sadly mistaken. This event was poorly planned and deceptive in the advertisement. It was NOT intimate nor acoustic. The staff and radio stations were rude and disorganized. The food & drinks were cold, overpriced and not even good. The tent was anything but heated let alone dangerous with all the snow sagging the roof before we even made it into the tent. The only person paying attention to the condition of the tent was the Fire Marshall (thank Heavens). All that aside we paid all this money to see Hanson, who ended up being cut short. The two opening acts over played their time slots and radio station DJ's sat up there wasting time talking nonsense. Let alone didn't know ANYTHING about the band themselves, joked them and yet still promoted the event. Knowing that the tent was already sagging the show should've been rearranged to allow the main artist to play their full set and cut the two openers. As a paying customer I did not come for the openers. I will NEVER attend an event here again and plan to make sure everyone else I know doesn't either. Nor will I listen to these local stations. I'm planning on writing a yelp review on all the radio stations as well as the venue and I am suggesting everyone who endured this misery does the same. Williamsburg Winery, 94.9, 101.3, and 98.1 owes everyone a public apology and needs to refund everyone for this catastrophe.

Pretty much whatever's on the charts at the moment in the Rock/Pop genre: Katie Perry, Pink, Train and lots of Kelly Clarkson. They do a lot of promotions and contests and play the same songs for the most part. It's more about getting listeners for their advertisers than having a good selection of music to attract listeners. There's really no competition for this station in Hampton Roads, which is lame. Thank goodness for iTunes radio and Pandora!

In fact every morning I listen to the 'ZmorningZoo' featuring Nick, Tricia & Shaggy. This show keeps me laughing on my thirty minute commute to work and that's a good thing. They do some really hysterical segments such as Torture Tuesday, Dirty Work Wednesday and then more random skits and jokes. It is definitely worth checking out this hysterical morning show. As far as the rest of the day goes- I still like the radio deejays that are on throughout the day but the music is terrible. Talk about playing the same song over and over again - with this station that's no joke. I get in my car to go to lunch and song a is on, I get back in my car after lunch to return to work guess what's on the radio? Song a again! Bleh. Stay for the morning show and then make a quick escape.

Anything that's on the top 10 list, is bubblegum pop or already annoyingly ubiquitous will surely be in heavy rotation on this station. With that said, you can always find something to tap a toe or bounce to. Also, compared to some of the other stations, they actually play more music than talking. That's a huge plus for me. Listening to the request lines and the jocks, you'll probably find that this station caters more towards the kids (18 and under) than adults, but there's still some good songs to be heard and some old school jams that pop in every once in a while.
