Years ago I used to have a job where I needed to wear suits and professional attire on a daily basis. For years I kept those suits and dresses thinking I was probably going to need them again in the near future. Well after five years of just storing them and never wearing them I decided to donate them at Dress for Success. Why I chose this nonprofit? Because I know that the clothes I donate will go to someone that actually needs it and will make good use of it. The donation process was super easy. They take donations Monday to Friday from 9:00am - 12:30pm, except for the first week of the month. When you arrive to the building, you need to head to the back area where you will see a gate. A staff member will let you in and will pick-up all your donations. If you need a donation receipt for your taxes they can also provide that for you. I am so happy that I was able to support this amazing organization and I appreciate all the work they do to empower women!

Our veterinarian had originally quote us almost $1,000 just for the spay, which seemed a little over the top for such a common procedure. I went online and found Spay Neuter Network which is a nonprofit that provides affordable spay/neuter services for dogs and cats. Making the appointment online was super easy and I originally only had to pay $20 to secure my dog's appointment. On the day of the appointment my husband dropped him off at 7am and by 3:00pm he was ready to go home. At the end, we did end up paying about $100 more for some additional vaccinations that our dog needed prior to the procedure. It's been a week since the surgery and my dog is feeling great and we haven't had any issues. I am so happy to have found Spay Neuter Network and will definitely recommend to all my friends and family!

I do not even remember how many times I have visited The Alamo, however, it is a lot. The Alamo was originally built as San Antonio Mission de Valero in 1718. It was later converted to a military fort called The Alamo. In 1836, The Alamo was a key fortress during the Texas Revolution, when Texas tried to secure its independence from Mexico. A small group of Texas defenders including Davy Crockett, James Bowie and William Travis fought to secure The Alamo for 13 days before being defeated by the Mexican army led by General Santa Anna. This uprising is known as the Battle of The Alamo, which is key to Texas history. Over the years, they have renovated The Alamo grounds making it more visitor friendly.

I had a few hours to kill in San Antonio and thought this is definitely something on my bucket list. Beforewarned, choose your parking well. I went to the main parking lot as it was the closest, and had no idea. I was going to spend $36 to park for 2 hours. Take my advice, a little farther away is a $5 parking lot, save the money and buy yourself a t-shirt at the gift shop. That being said, with a senior discount, it only cost me $13 to get in and see the Alamo and the museum, and is totally worth it. Buff this is definitely a place for you. They have done a great job of preserving and restoring these grounds. Walking through the Alamo was a step back in time. Even though the battle itself only lasted 90 minutes, you totally get the feeling that that was the most intense 90 minutes of some people's lives. There are many plaques honoring the different people who lost their lives in this battle, as well as people that history had forgotten about.. sort of like the tomb of the unknown soldier. Over in the Alamo exhibit, are artifacts from people's personal collections. Now granted, I had no idea that Phil Collins. The musician was a big fan of the Alamo. But a lot of his personal items were on display. Super cool that he would donate his entire collection to the Alamo preservation society. I'm not going to lie, one of the main reasons that I wanted to come to the Alamo was to see Pee-Wee Herman's bike from Pee-Wee's Big adventure. You know, when he goes to Texas because a Fortune tiller told him his bike was in the basement of the Alamo? Well the bike is at the Alamo, but not in the basement because they don't have one. But there it was on full display. That alone was worth the $13 to get in. The two buildings are really great to go through, but there's more to see on the grounds, such as a live history encampment where guys dressed in the garb of today we're showing off muskets that could have been used during the war, as well as people showing gunpowder pistols. It was a really cool step back in time and is definitely worth the $13 to get in. Bottom line? Getting to view history is an amazing thing, if you are ever in the San Antonio area and have a couple hours to spend, I highly recommend going and checking out the Alamo.

Probandt is an old warehouse and the goods are presented in a commensurate fashion, making it kind of a dump to go to. BUT it is very large and they have a lot of items. The Walzam Rd location is smaller, more store-like and a lot cleaner. Selection is similar but my impression is of smaller quantities and more limited selection. They both carry a wide range of construction and household materials, whether reclaimed from remodels or demolitions, or closeouts, seconds and scratch-and-dent. They also have a lot of paints, much of which is "evolve", a brand that keeps excess project or returned paint from being senselessly dumped in landfills. Prices are better than the building materials stores, but you still need to know what a good price is, as some of the smaller household goods can be found for less elsewhere (mainly online). But bargains are to be found if you don't mind spending time browsing. I suggest coming prepared with a complete list of what you might need, so you come away with what you really want at a price that suits you. All of that said, remember that this is a thrift store for Habitat for Humanity, a very good organization that makes affordable housing available for low income people. So anything you buy supports a great cause. I would have rated this 3-stars, but the nature of what their main focus is caused me to make it 4-stars since the dollars you spend here contributes to helping people in need.
