I came to Tucson for work and I was looking a dojo like the ones I had experienced in Japan. I found that in the Shoubu Dojo and in Aikido. Aikido is more than martial technique, it is a way of life. In addition, the knife class has been a great experience. Blending both the tactical and traditional arts of knife defense and offense. It is eye opening to see and learn that. The only way to truly understand is to stop by a class and see it in action. There is not enough space to covey how I feel about this place and the teacher, so I will leave you with this thought. There is an old saying paraphrased " when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." That is how I felt when I found Cody Sensei and the Shoubu Dojo. I have now been there 9 years. Young siblings naturally accompany parents to drop-offs and pickups. Instead of creating a welcoming environment for families, the owner made us feel unwelcome and disrespected. We came here for discipline and growth -- not to be treated as a nuisance. I would not recommend this school to other parents who value a family-friendly atmosphere and respectful communication.

The treatments are affordable (only $30 each) and effective, and last about an hour total (for both the acupuncture and the tunia). I've been coming here twice a month for the past month, and I am feeling much healthier and happier since starting these treatments. Acupuncture is extremely helpful in treating a variety of health issues. If you suffer from any kind of chronic pain, headaches, high blood pressure, allergies, or digestive problems, you could most likely benefit from regular treatments. Descending Dragon also offers martial arts classes, and Jarrod is a highly knowledgeable expert instructor, as well as being committed to traditional Chinese medicine. If you don't mind a communal setting for your treatments, try it, and you'll soon experience the multitude of benefits that acupuncture and Tunia offer. There is a drinking fountain with a step available for the kids to drink, too. They have a giant fan going so it doesn't get uncomfortable in there. Grand Master Kim is an amazing person and very good with all ages, even kids! He is the owner and has personally given my kid a private lesson, as has some of the other Masters. Grand Master Kim prides himself in the little details. Being that my kid is new, he wanted to ensure preparedness before putting him into the bigger class with everyone else, so they spend several days with a personal trainer (Master) learning ahead of time. I am not extremely familiar with the niceties of this Martial Art yet, but I am excited by their strive towards patience, quality, professionalism, and self-defense. As a parent, you are allowed to watch in the seating area by the window, or you may sit in the front room that sort of functions as a waiting room. The amazing thing about this class is that you can come every week night if you would like, and there are some weekend options available on Saturday as well. Grand Master Kim is extremely easy to work with, and very kind hearted. Uniforms are only $25 dollars. All in all, I recommend this school, as well as Master Kim and his teachers.

One of the things that separated this school from others I visited was that if my hand or foot was not in the right position they would move it to where it needed to be and it physically taught me how it was supposed to feel and look. When you only watch while learning sometimes you can miss the detail and not get the full power behind the technical part of the art. I would recommend this school over any school in Tucson.
