Much better than the Melbourne Hostel. This one is in a much better neighborhood, with lots of nearby restaurants, and is a warm and inviting place. For $39 I had a large private room, free wifi (did have a problem with the wifi later at night), very clean common areas and bathroom. Parking is $5 all day at a nearby lot, or you can park on the street a block away without paying ovenight (meters from 8 or 9 am to 6pm). The staff were friendly and efficient and I had no issues other than the wifi. Would recommend this hostel to anyone. Melbourne was right next to the light rail line and $5 cheaper, but otherwise 11th Avenue is far better. read more

Got a single private room. Paid around 80. Topmost floor. For the price and location, it is ok. You gotta pay for towels, so bring your own. The front desk had no problems. That have security cameras everywhere. They also scan your ID and save your credit card information. So if you're paranoid about identity theft, look elsewhere. I didn't shower there because the place was dirty. They claim that they clean the bathrooms twice a day, but looks like they clean it twice a millennium. Bring sandals, or get your feet exposed to some nasty chit. Folks here are friendly, chitty chatty and chilly chally. For 80, you can find a better hotel, but nothing really beats this location. It's affordable, and much better than throwing out 200 bucks for few luxuries. read more

I'm not sure what other people are expecting from a hostel that's dirt cheap. I've stayed at MANY different hotels and hostels, and for the price, you can't beat this location. My room was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and the location was awesome for those who want to be close to downtown Denver. A lot of attractions are within walking distance from this hostel. For $38 a night, I had a private room that measured 10 feet by 12 feet with a nice bed, a sink and TV. They also provide free Wifi access. As I mentioned earlier, the room was very clean and did not smell. The hallways are clean and the shared bathroom was relatively clean considering that it is shared. Some people are messy, but you can't fault the hostel for that -- they can't constantly clean the bathroom. If you're looking for a cheap place that is clean and is in a great location, you won't find a better hostel in Denver. I've stayed at all of them and this one is, by and far, the best choice. Remember, if you are kind and courteous to the staff, they'll return the courtesy. They have to deal with a lot of strange people each day, so it's a nice break for them when someone treats them with respect. I would highly recommend this hostel for anyone visiting Denver. You can find cheaper rooms if you choose one of their shared dorm settings. read more

I've stayed in cheap hostels before, but this one was by far my least favorite. I'm ok with staying somewhere with "no frills", but dirty rooms are a deal breaker. I had a private bathroom, and when I walked in there were random black hairs all over the shower. Absolutely disgusting. No ac so had to sleep with the window open. Unfortunately there was a super loud club next door, so after a long day of hiking couldn't sleep until 2 am when the club closed. read more

BED BUGS. I got bed bug bites on my arm. The mattress was covered in plastic. Also, the place is filthy, filled with sketchy characters, and very, very unclean. Would not recommend. Found this hotel online, had never heard of it. Because it was so cheap, I expected it to be dirty and providing the minimum. But I got there and found that they are extremely organized and clean. Management has their act together! The building is very old and they haven't updated it much. But it's quirky and has its own unique character. There were always people going in and out of the lobby area (most of the people there are young...around college age or a little older. There were minimal creepies). Room was old looking, but very clean! Again, the management is very nice and very straight forward. Other things to know: there is a deposit for the room key ($5) and the towel ($3), but if you return them, they give you cash back for them. Location of the hostel was great for me because I was going to the convention center every day. Got a good feel for the city on the walls to central downtown. DON'T GO!!!! Absolutely shabby and super noisy to the point that they give you earplugs for free at the entrance. There is a night club right below that makes it impossible to get any sleep because their music is sooooo loud! It's like there was a party in the room! Crazily expensive for what they offer. They didn't clean the bedroom to he point that there was a robe and stuff for vaping in the room!!! So not only it wasn't clean, but they didn't even remove the previous visitor's belongings!!! Ok. I knew that this wasn't going to be a 5 star hotel when I booked, but it def looked better online than it did in real life. The building is very old. That's ok. It also doesn't have air conditioning. Again, it could have been worse. It was a pretty warm night in Denver, but we raised the windows and they also had a small fan in the room which was nice. We checked in, went to our room, unlocked it, and it looked like someone just left. Towels in the bathroom floor and the bed was slept in. We went back downstairs and told them the room had not been cleaned. They were surprised, but gave us another room key and told us to check this new one. It had been cleaned and that's the one we ended up in. It was a private, non-smoking room. We left most of the evening and only came back to sleep because it was so warm in the room. Bed was small. Only about 10 channels on the tv. All in all, it could have been a lot worse. The only thing I would warn people about is, it's a good possibility that they have bed bugs. My husband noticed several bites on himself the next day. I thankfully did not have any. I recommend just paying a bit more and staying at a legit hotel. read more

Hostel from hell. I don't mean to be rude but there's no other way to put it. I booked a room (4 MONTHS in advance) with a private bathroom but it did not function, and they were sold out. The bathtub had a SPOUT that released a tiny stream for me to bathe, and it didn't seem safe to shower down the hall whatsoever. The area where it's located isn't bad, but the suspects hanging out outside making comments at female guests as they walked in were not my favorite to say the least. I complained about my room situation (without AC as well) two days in a row without any resolution. I pretty much had to release a wrath to receive customer service and I really don't think it should be necessary. The last day we were finally switched to a better room, and everything would've been okay if I had started my stay there. Silver lining: the manager kindly responded to my complaint about lacking a paid-for bathroom and refunded me the difference after the trip. I appreciated that, and it must be mentioned. read more

Don't stay here if have a sense of self preservation. Rooms, bathrooms, and lounge were all extremely filthy. Although it was close to downtown nothing made it worth the stay. In fact the name of the maid that stole 60.00 out of my purse in my room at this host-hell was Mary. The whole place was an insane night mare. But my maid mary was Way too nice one day of the month then psychotic and anti social the next. Only uncomfortably nice to gain your trust so she can rob you every chance she gets. When they confronted her with the theft she fabricated nonsense to cover up the theft. Jim the owner seemed to be on board with the theft. Never let them clean or enter your room unless you are in attendance. You have an obligation to watch everything you own here. Never leave money or valuables anywhere around there especially if mary cleans your area or anyone who works here in fact . I never received a refund for checking out early nor when they double booked the room i paid for. This resulted in my move to a room the maid said was not fit for anyone to stay in. . More than any one in the whole nightmare ,mary made this place feel like a psych ward for the insane. If you have no where to go and you find this place. Find a gutter to stay in. It will be cleaner with a lot less roaches and "Sewer Rats." I gave this place(-5) minus five stars. read more

- I had to slam my door for it to close properly. - No air conditioning, on a day when it was 95°. That sucked a lot. Even when it was cool-ish outside at night, it was ten degrees hotter in the room, even with the window open and fan on. - There was no hot water in the shower (not ice cold, but not warm, much less hot); also, there was barely any water pressure. - The towel they gave me had a couple sooty smudges. - Their kitchen had no bowls, cups, or other common stuff; looked like the few things in the dish drainer belonged to individuals. The only silverware they had was disposable plastic stuff. - No recycling. - Internet was mostly ok, but sometimes dropped out and was never fast. - This isn't strictly their fault, but the street parking meters outside (on Broadway) said they were free from 6:pm - 8:am except that I got a $50 parking ticket for parking there overnight, which was a nasty shock. The whole point of staying here was to be cheap. And searching around, there're no paid lots around that allow overnight parking. Though parking overnight on 11th ave I didn't get a ticket. - The front desk staff, while friendly, had no idea where to get food around there after 10:pm, and had no idea about where to park. In short, it was craptastic. Cheapest thing I could find, but wasn't worth it. As a 25 year old female traveling alone, i would reach out to others in a similar boat and tell them NOT to stay here. I didn't see a single other female guest. All of the guests were older men who clearly lived at the hostel and gave me the creeps. Public restrooms were very dirty and I felt uncomfortable in them because of the other guests. read more

- When I arrived, the staff spent 20 minutes trying to locate my reservation. - The original room keys they gave me did not work, I had to be re-assigned a room. - They claimed to have a surveillanced parking lot, but their surveillance equipment did not work (they showed me). - They advertised wifi, but their wifi did not work. - I found wadded toilet tissue behind a night stand when plugging in my laptop charger. - When I asked for some compensation for the inconveniences and for them to cancel the remainder of my reservation, the manager became angry, yelled 'NO!' at the clerk, and stormed out of his office. LOUSY PLACE!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I booked a private room with a private bathroom for two nights. The bed had no back support and I woke up with horrible backaches. The bathroom had a bathtub...no shower! I immediately went back to the reception and asked if I could get a room with a shower and they said they didn't have any left, but to try back the next day and they can switch me. The next day, I requested the transfer and they said, sorry, they can't switch me. They didn't even give me a reason. Ultimately, they are misleading when they say private room with private bathroom. I expected a shower and got a bathtub. The bathtub was so disgusting, I wouldn't even consider taking a bath in it. The common showers in the hall are also disgusting! I WOULDN'T SUGGEST THIS DUMP TO ANYONE! The management are misleading, rude, and unhelpful. Once they got my money, which was non-refundable, they didn't care at all about my requests. I backpack all the time and am not picky by any means, but this misleading and rude business model, is something that needs to be publicized! Lastly, there is a line to use the common bathroom...so if you need to shower or use the toilet, be prepared to wait in a line...that's no fun if you really are in a rush or have to go to the bathroom badly!!!!! read more

I was traveling from California to Ohio and decided to book a room at the 11th ave Hotel for a few days. At first I thought this was an acceptable spot to hang out. My first clue was the late night police action and fighting because of about 4 mixed clubs in the immediate area. I check out a day early because I had developed a nasty rash and just wanted out. I collected some small insects from the room I was in and took the rash and the bug sample to my doctor. He confirmed bed bugs and I had to throw away my luggage and clothes and had to enter my home naked to eliminate any possibility of bringing these bed bugs inside my home My luggage and its contents was worth over 2000.00 that had to be burned. read more

If you are used to the privileged life of the first world than this ISN'T a place for you. It's in a historic building in the heart of downtown Denver. After waiting about 10 mins to get our reservation all figured out due to a computer crash, we still got a big room for $65 a night. Be sure to bring a laptop, towels, stereo but all in all it's a little noisy and has no AC but it's defiantly an experience. Would recommend to a savvy traveler. read more

I stayed here with a friend because we thought it would be a great deal and we were going to spend time at Vinyl, a club about 25 feet away from the hotel. We checked in and the hotel staff was all very friendly and efficient, but when we got to the room we were in shock. There was literally just a mattress on the floor with a few sheets on it. There weren't even pillow cases on the pillows. There was also a table but it was messy and there were no chairs. The spigot on the sink was broken off and rusted... and we didn't even bother to look at the bathroom... but I can only imagine how horrible it probably was. In all honesty, we both instantly thought this would be an ideal hooker or prostitute hotel. We checked out immediately and they would only give us a 50% refund. Ended up staying at a decent Days Inn which was close by. read more

DON'T EVER STAY HERE. Spend the extra dollars and stay at a real hotel. The staff kept coming to our door and harassing us saying the police were on their way because we were trespassing even though we were registered to our room. And judging by the other patrons, we should not have been of any concern to the staff. We were honestly scared to leave our belongings in the room. They don't put fitted sheets on the bed. You can feel every spring in the mattress. Outlets are scarce. Windows hardly shut. We got a room with a "private bathroom" to save us from using the community shower, but had to anyway bec our bathroom had a claw foot tub only. Oh, and I rushed into the first floor bathroom for an emergency pee and there was an old man sitting spread eagle taking a shit that just stared at me. This place has both private rooms and dormitories, so my experience in the dorm may differ from someone who stayed in their own room. But the dorm did not have the kind of supportive hostel atmosphere I was seeking. I was there a week, so saw a different cast of characters over time, but every one of them bordered on homeless--dirty, constant coughing by many of them. Constant. Not very friendly. No talking. Sleeping at all hours, even 6pm. And naturally, I feared for my belongings. The place is dirty. The carpet in the main stairway is covered in a sheet of cracking plastic, and the "common area" downstairs is not terribly active or welcoming. The bathrooms are clean enough, but lacking amenities like shelves to put your soap, or towel racks that are properly secured to the wall. Also quite cold at night, and thin, cheap bedding. You get what you pay for. I was hoping for a place to meet people in Denver while I stayed here. This was not that place. But the location is great. read more

Cheap and nice to stay at when u have events at the park buuuut lil things should be said before u rent.our experience was we were promised a room but they wouldn't take my card to reserve,was told to call back the filling morning when I called they were booked,then they promised me a room again ,had to call every 2 hours to check for cancelation ,finally at 9@ night I was able to finally get the room.so we get here and they mess up the paper work.just a nightmare. Here's things u should know. There is no parking u have to use a parking garage or use meters.u can't drink or smoke on premises. U can't have any guets unless u pay 20 bucks a person ,my friend came with me and came to my room just to freshen up,and the hotel manager wouldn't let us close our hotel door,we asked if we could change for 2 seconds then we were leaving since she helped carry my luggage up and he said no,it was creepy, finally she had to leave Cuz it was so awkward. Then he was pounding on my door after it was found out they messed paper work up,said I would be right right down and he said he was gonna wait right there so he just stood outside the door waiting like I was gonna flee the building.he really made our experience a bad one.there's no bathrooms in the rooms, there's a bar across the street that will keep u up all night,the shades in the windows aren't the right size so downtown Denver can see u change and sleep,no privacy what so ever.there's no heat or AC in the rooms there's just an oversized fan blowing in the halls.the showers look nasty,I'm not looking forward to using them in the morning.I would pick a different place ,and I would definitely not come here again, it was a last minute decision.oh and we paid 40 bucks to have 2 guests come up to the room to hang out and wait for their ride,but they never came,so I'm pretty sure we aren't getting our money back. read more

After going to the Melbourn, then the Hostel of the Rockies, and finally to Denver International Hostel. My expectations for Hosteling in Colorado were no better than sleeping on a park bench and taking my chances. A fellow backpacker on the 16th street mall told me about the 11th Avenue Hotel. Tired and worn out from lugging my wares around Denver, I took a chance. I am so glad I did. I wish that I stopped in here first. I checked my goods and stayed in a clean, safe, quite, with great helpful staff. All for a few dollars cheaper than the others. Here's the good news: this place is cheap. The bad news is that there are two showers for the floor of about 24 people. That hot water's gone by around 11am, the same time you'll be awake after a bad night spent hearing your methed out roommates yelling at strangers on the street throughout the night. It's good if you'd like to experience a 1960s horror movie night. I booked a room for a week online since it was my 1st visit to Denver. The room we were assigned was ok except for the squeaking of the floor, beds and walls. The only window in the room didn't lock, so I asked at the front door if they could fix it.... they guy said he will put a note for someone to come up and take a look at it the next day. I told him the window it's right at the end of a stairwell to a back alley. He said 'well if it makes you feel safer I can change the room'. The 2nd room smelled like bad incense. The windows squeaked all night because of the wind and the blinds won't go all the way down. Plus a fight broke right outside my room at 3am and I was scared to even open the door, I was able to put the nightstand at the door but no one from the front desk bothered to go up there to assist the situation. as a single male traveler, i opted for a private room with bathroom and was very happy with my experience here. i recommend booking directly through the hotel rather than through the AAE site since i saved about $5 a nite. the room was large with a tv and a table plus a nice sized bath tub and shower. the bed was a nice clean and new mattress and very comfy. the common room was a great place to meet other travelers in the hotel, had a nice flat screen tv, computer w/ internet (also free wifi that i picked up in my room on my laptop), a fridge to keep food, dishes, microwave & toaster oven...perfect! everyone that worked in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. the location of the hotel is centrality located so you can walk pretty much everywhere (including some great bars and restaurants). if you're looking for an inexpensive, clean and friendly staffed hotel...this is the place! i will stay here again for sure. read more

thought the place was in a good location for people who don't mind walking. the museum is 2blocks away and theres a good mexican joint across the street(side street) the place was clean for its age and the price was sure a lot better than a hotel. we had a private room that was clean but the bed could've been better(old) and the bathrooms were great! the kitchen was clean and has all the amenities you would expect. the girl who helped us at check in was very nice as well as some of the night staff. my only complaint would be parking, especially if your unfamiliar with the area. we parked in a lot for about 6$ a day but had to move to a metered space in the evening. we found this to be the cheapest solution as opposed to spending 48$ to park in the garage for the 3 days we spent there. street parking is free after 8pm and before 8am but be sure your ready to move your car back to the 6$lot by 8am. if your from the east coast this should not be an issue because 8am west coast time is 10am east coast time. read more
