I recently completed a full gut renovation of the bathroom and a kitchen refresh in my 1-bedroom, 1-bath condo in Chicago, and I cannot say enough good things about my experience working with Angie Joy (designer) and Stanley (contractor). The bathroom project included removing the bathtub and replacing it with a walk-in shower, new flooring, cabinetry, lighting, paint -- essentially a complete transformation. In addition, they completed a kitchen refresh that included painting, removing and replacing countertops, installing a new kitchen faucet, and updating the hardware. Both spaces turned out beautifully and feel completely upgraded. Not only was the quality of work excellent, but the project was finished ahead of schedule, which is almost unheard of in renovations. What truly set Angie and Stanley apart was communication and trust. I was not physically at the condo during the remodel, yet I always felt completely informed and confident in the progress. Their communication was clear, proactive, and consistent from start to finish. I also live in a building with a very strict HOA and tight security requirements, and they handled every rule, procedure, and restriction professionally and without issue. This alone was a huge relief and made the entire process stress-free. After talking with several design build firms and independent designers/contractors about our master bath remodel, I randomly found 123 Remodeling through an online search. I was impressed with the photos on their website as well as the positive reviews. I selected Angie to come out and provide a proposal. We were strongly considering another vendor but really connected with Angie and made the decision to go with them. We are SO glad we did. It was one of if not THE best customer service experiences we've ever had. First of all, Angie is a rock star! I had a lot of anxiety and was frankly overwhelmed over the scope of the process but she reassured me that she was going to make it fun and boy did she deliver. From start to finish, she followed through on every single detail. She came up with a beautiful design and provided a spreadsheet for me to track all our expenses. I was amazed at how she really cared about our budget and always provided lower cost options for our purchases. She's talented, professional, detail oriented and just the most delightful person to be around.  Stanley and his team executed the work. I could not have been happier! He was reliable, polite, and best of all, his work was impeccable. And I am PICKY! He took no shortcuts, communicated regularly, and made sure that the house stayed clean and organized while he worked. He was patient with my questions and requests and always polite. I hired 123 Remodeling to combine and fully renovate two condo units in a Chicago lakefront high rise. Here's my story. To start, I provided four contractors with a City of Chicago permitted/board approved/fully detailed project to combine two units in a high rise in Chicago. 123 was the lowest bidder by almost $50K. I vetted them carefully, asking many times if they fully understood the project. I should have asked if they were going to hire qualified subcontractors for each installation. 123 Remodeling does not perform their own work, but rather subcontracts all the work. This could be fine, but the 123 project manager was not able to control the subcontractors they hired and the schedule dragged on and on. Initially, I was told the project would take 5 months, but it ended up being 10 months due to poor scheduling and coordination of electrical, plumbing and framing. ABT had to come out on 4 separate occasions to deliver appliances because the work was not completed correctly for hooking up new appliances. 123's subcontractor for the demolition, framing and finish work was Perea Design and Remodeling. The expression "Jack of All Trades Master of None" applies here. Grout lines are not straight, new doors rub on new jambs and do not close properly, cracks in new drywall, new walls that are not straight, damage to new wood floors because not properly protected after installation, just to name a few! Basically, a handyman trying to do several specialized trades and not doing any one of them very well. They were regularly late or only one person would show up. The results are substandard everywhere. 123 was just not there to make it right, either they did not have the ability to do so, or they just did not care. The 123 project manager has since left the company, so I contacted Lior at 123 Remodeling multiple times. As of the latest communication with Lior, he told me he no longer works with the subcontractor that performed the defective work... Beware, 123 does not hire good subcontractors and they are not able to control their subcontractors. In the end, you're left with delays and poor-quality work that 123 won't own up to and blames on their subcontractors. read more

Listen to the other 1 star reviews. They renovated my entire bathroom and installed a washer-dryer unit that attached to the same wet wall... it took them 6 FULL months to somewhat finish it. During that time, the first crew was watching porn on the clock in my house, two different crews and contractors were fired - leaving me as a hot potato client, I had to get a gym membership to shower and had to use the CVS 24-Hour restroom to well. You know. They said they'd fix anything that messed up within a year, so I followed up on that right away! November 2017, in fact. Two years later, I'm still trying to have them fix it because the washer water/chemical back up into the shower, the grout and caulking is falling out, mold is growing behind the sealant, and the plaster around the shower is eroding. I'm leaving out other things for brevity. So here I am... a single woman with a tiny bathroom... 2 years, 7 crews, 4 contractors, 4 plumbers later... still nothing has been done to right the wrong. I contacted this company for remodeling my kitchen and bathroom, and if that worked out I have other projects I wanted done. I was super excited after I met the project manager. It sounded like everything I wanted. She left and told me the estimate should take about a week. I never got the estimate. Its been over a month now. I tried texting and calling. Today I reached out to the main company number, and was pretty much told to contact the same person I saw. I guess my project was rejected, and I have no idea why. There's just silence. This is so unprofessional. At the very least they could have said "I'm sorry we are not interested." I asked for a bid on a partial basement remodel. On the request for quote I gave rather specific details of what I wanted. It took them two weeks to respond with a robot questionnaire asking me to restate exactly what I had already given them. They eventually set a date to come out and look at my basement. I cleared my schedule of work in order to accommodate them and the day before I get a call saying that they are bailing on the job because they are only focusing on kitchens right now. I was frustrated at start in trying to set up an appointment with them. They confirmed a date (phone and email) and then came back and rescheduled it a few days later. I called them to discuss the rescheduled date and the person could not find it and gave me another date - close to a month out. Here is my rule of them. When vendors shows you who they really are, listen. Don't ignore these signs. If this is how they treat potential new customers, then its not going to get better and pretty much shows me how the project will go. I cancelled and moved onto others. Don't waste your time or money with this company. Horrible communications, terrible construction techniques and craftsmanship, expensive but nothing to back it up, charge a lot for products that really are not that high quality, project went over a year longer than promised and over budget. Do not believe there advertising. They sure want their money on time. I will admit I got taken. Oh, they still are not done. Many things are wrong that I will have to have someone else correct. They say they know condo and housing requirements. Not true. They replaced a vented door with a solid door where my furnace is. The furnace needs a vent somewhere for the furnace to run efficiently according to my hvac guy. They won't replace. They tacked wiring with metal staples with no plastic insulation. Can you say short out or electrocution. Of course they will deny all of this because they bully and intimidate owners with explanations that are untrue. How do I know? I am a former shop teacher. This of items that they tried to get away is much larger. We have had to wait on many things because they can't measure and have had to reorder items two or three times. My total remodel of my downtown Chicago condo nowhere looks like what I I have into. So sad and disappointed. Any contractor could have done this in a quarter of the time for a quarter of the money. When I called for a quote no one told me of a minimum. I have a budget of about $12k to make a few updates. I got several quotes before them and everyone came below or close to my $12k budget. We decided earlier this year that we needed to do this work on our home. After extensive research and interviews / quotes from many other companies, we decided on 123 and we are SO glad we did! Cara was our Project Manager and helped with design as well. She was AMAZING. We met in-person back in May and we just clicked. She was so easy to work with. She was extremely communicative, professional, and completely understood my vision. She helped us balance the needs of our family and our budget. Deciding on cabinets was probably the biggest decision and Cara was helpful and supportive the whole way through! Though the cabinets (Boxi) were more of a challenge than we had anticipated, Cara and the 123 team were fantastic. Everything came out beautifully! The 123 crew went above and beyond in both the kitchen and the bathroom; their craftsmanship and attention to detail was stellar. We came in both on time and on budget. I initially contacted 123 Remodeling to obtain an estimate for some commons area work for our condo association. They initially suggested a Saturday morning meeting time to come out and assess the space. On the day we had agreed upon their employee showed up late, but did call ahead to inform me that he was running late. Once he arrived it was apparent that he had, perhaps, been out to late on a Friday night for a 9:00 am work appointment the next day. The initial inspection went well and all areas of the potential remodel were covered. Before parting I made it clear that I needed the estimate by the first of September so I could report their quote, compared to two other quotes I had also secured, to the condo board. The employee offered his business card so we could contact each other and I even wrote down my email address on is estimate work sheet. After allowing him one week to put together his quote I heard nothing back and the meeting date was one week away. I emailed the employee at his 123 Remodeling address and got no reply. After two days I tried and again and still no response. I then called the office directly and expressed my need for the quote in a timely manner, with two days to go before I needed to hand over the quote comparisons. The meeting took place last night and I still have no quote in hand from 123 Remodeling, nor was there ever a response from the employee concerning any of the email messages or the phone call. We had a bad communication experience with 123 Remodeling. Made an appointment on Monday over phone. Took a day off work Friday for the appointment only to have no one show. Was told that it was becuase I didn't confirm the appointment from one person. Another told me it was becuase they didn't think the project would cost enough. They offered to reschedule but said that there is an fee associated with the estimate. Unfortunately none of the above was discussed with me or brought up on the phone when I made the initial appointment just four days earlier. UPDATE: Ariel contacted me (within 10 minutes) after I posted this review and threatened legal action for sharing my experience. *** Please note: The owner did reach out to me about their cancellation policy and pointed out to where it was noted a the bottom of a long email they sent me. When I contacted 123 Remodeling it was July 26, 2016. My goals were to renovate my kitchen, bathroom, flooring, and improve storage in my studio. My condo unit is 650 square feet in the New East Side of Chicago. I was quoted to have my project be between 30-35k for construction and materials in October of 2016. Due to delays in permits and a long HOA approval process, construction officially started in February 27, 2017. At that point in time I had one project manager (PM1) transitioning to a new project manager (PM2). In the month of March 2017, the general contractor kept asking me questions of where I wanted things and measurements regarding my unit which I had thought the project manager was responsible for providing that information. Being new to renovations, I gave what information I could. I had everything saved onto their recommended Houzz account and sent e-mails to PM1. Execution of my renovation was going rather well up until the point of the countertop issue in the kitchen in April 2017. PM1 and I had photographs of the countertop that I wanted. Although PM2 had the name of the countertop that I wanted, the countertop that was actually installed looked nothing like the photographs PM1 had. Communication went awry to the point where I discovered I became financially responsible for 2 countertops (the one that was installed and the one that I went shopping with PM2 and chose the slabs in person) until the 2nd countertop was completely installed. As a result, miscommunication continued and every time I tried to refer to PM2's e-mails regarding the countertop experience, Ariel, the operations manager would say something that would contradict what she had typed in the e-mails. The actual amounts of what the countertops were worth as well as the installation, kept changing in price. I kept asking for an invoice of the countertops so I would have documentation of what each was worth. I did research on the internet and it seems like other countertop installers have financial procedures for a deposit, templates, and installation. 123 Remodeling had a subcontractor that did not follow this procedure and I did not get the final number until July 7, 2017. I worked out a payment arrangement to pay for the 2 countertops until October 2017. Upon the last payment the 1st countertop was delivered to the charity of my choice in October 2017. The year is now 2018 and my unit is still not completed to my satisfaction and I have already spent more than 50k on this project. The execution of the renovation of the kitchen, bathroom, and flooring are beautiful. However, I did not get my storage needs addressed and apparently it will cost more money to address them. My tip to anyone who wishes to use 123 Remodeling for their renovation needs: Be Vigilant! Make sure you are 100% sure prior to installation of anything to make sure that it fits or is what you want. I financed this entire renovation with a HELOC and had to dip unexpectedly into my entire savings. This was my first renovation and during this process I had very little guidance to oversee these details (July 2016-October 2017), I had to constantly cancel or postpone my work plans as a result of these miscommunications and then later work double hours to make up the financial difference. I also suggest that you should not pay the final balance until all items are complete to your satisfaction. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this company-- From the start there were problems, I waited on my scheduled day for them to arrive and after waiting 2 hours called and told me I had been rescheduled for another day--was on Monday now was told Thursday. Emailed about lack of communication and Ariel threatened not to even start the project because he did not like the tone of my email. Problems from doing demo on my master bath attached to my bedroom without putting any plastic up, completely covered my bedroom and walk in closet in dust and debris when I returned from surgery to an absolute mess (and this happened more than once), to the jackhammer they used to chip up my shower base floor--new HOA rule, no jackhammers, unlevel walk-in shower areas and seats, not attaching vanity to wall and the list goes on. Also, they send a interior designer, but I had to source all the products for the WHOLE bathroom, when I sent her the list to get designer discount she said she could not beat the prices I had. The workmanship from 2017 has certainly not stood the test of time for only 1 person using it. I m pretty sure Ariel farms out to the work to the lowest bidder, I had the same guy do almost all the work. I wish I would have listened to the little voice in my head and fired them before starting when there were issues off the bat. LOOK for someone else!! read more

We initially just wanted new floors but due to Aaron's intelligence and great with details and crunching numbers, we were able to get a lot of repairs done that we never thought was possible. This company kinda sucks. I hired them for a bathtub refinishing job after calling a few places. They quoted me the highest price, but they were the only company I called that had an A on the BBB site (the other one wasn't listed and the third had an F with 2 outstanding complaints). The guy told me $325, then shows up a couple days later and says $375. Huh? I protested and he told me he must have made a mistake. I told him that's unfortunate because that's more than $100 over what everyone else is charging. As I was showing him the door, the worker shows up and the contractor tells me, okay we'll do it for $325. I was expecting it to be a 4 hour process, which is what I've heard is standard for tub refinishing, and after only 2 hours the guy tells me he's done. Okay, so I waited 24 hours, even though they said it'll take only 4 hours to dry, and now I put my hand around the tub and it has a bunch of sharp bumps, which tells me they did it way too fast. For $325, I wasn't expecting the world, but I don't think they did any better of a job that the companies charging $250 would've done. Too bad because my mom was going to go with these people to get her tub done, but I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy. I have no idea how they got such a good rating on the BBB. I just had 123 remodeling re-do my bathroom. I live in a 1 bedroom condo so my bathroom is TINY but they made some huge improvements! Ariel came out and showed me photos of jobs they'd done previously and I ended up pointing out some tiles that I liked. The contractor was pretty good, always on time and pretty clean. There were some minor hiccups but Ariel was ALWAYS accesible and reassured me along the way and he was right! The project ended up being a huge success, I love it!
