The on-site electronics tech, Glen, is on the details and does high quality work. This really is a cool shop and one of the few that actually does QUALITY, expert amp and guitar repair. There is an insane amount of stringed instruments on both on the floor and on the walls. They carry name brands, but also "off brands", but only of the best quality and value. Besides, name-brand guitars don't usually mean great value or workmanship. So if you're ever in need of a repair, a new ax or accessory, you gotta give these guys a chance! It's a place "where everybody knows your name." read more

Wow. Just wow. Not a musical bone in my body (at least not yet ;p) but I was welcomed like I was a family member. I cannot express how thankful I am that someone with integrity and honesty is at the helm of this shop. They could have likely taken advantage of me, but he gave me honesty and lost out on a potential deal (financial gain for him) in doing so. Found an awesome Eastman acoustic at this fabulous shop. I love the selection here. The store isn't huge, but all the stuff they have is super cool, which is the way I like it. Love the electrics and the amps too. All of the staff, including the owner, are very helpful, knowledgable and friendly. I would definitely go back for any future music needs! read more

Purchased a used Fender Stratocaster from this shop via Reverb.com. The guitar was described as "excellent" and with one "slight ding" on the top that is the 2 reason for it not being listed as "mint." Based on this description I purchased the guitar and waited a week for delivery. When I opened the container and looked over the guitar I was very disappointed...the guitar has several serious dings all over the body, some through the paint showing bare wood, several dings on the back of the neck and some in the fretboard. I contacted the shop to report these issues (and sent pics) and was told in an email that they didn't know how the dings got there but must've been during shipping. Wrong! The dings with the bare wood are old, the wood that shows through has darkened with age! They then told me to ship the guitar back to them (on my dime) for a refund. The frets are also well worn and need to be dressed (which is about $150 job). I asked for them to cover shipping or greatly reduce the price of the guitar to bring it in line with its actual condition...they refused to pay for shipping and offered only a minimal discount ($50 on an $800 guitar that's actually only worth about $500 based upon the wear and damage). When I again asked them to send me a shipping label they went silent. Unfortunately, Doyle's 12th Fret Music Shop enrages in deceptive business practices and when called on it they will not do the right thing. I've reported them to PayPal and Reverb.com and am awaiting word on both investigations. Avoid this shop!!!!! UPDATED 7/11/2018. To respond to the shops statement, I got Reverb involved, not them. I also got PayPal involved and Reverb made me whole, not the shop. Once I sent Reverb (who has excellent buyer protection) pics of the guitar I received and they compared them to the ad they quickly resolved this for me. The shop then had to deal with Reverb as the guitar was sent back to Reverb, not to the shop. That was after reaching out to the shop and being offered a minimal refund at first. They never offered to send me a return label. Just look at the pictures of this guitar (attached in my review) and see what they think "like new, mint" condition is! Incredible that they had the nerve to respond to this review and to do so in a disingenuous manner. ZERO STARS read more

Doyle and Kathy have a great guitar shop! Gear is towards entry to mid level but also have vintage gear for the interested. They have always been helpful in getting a good deal and VERY generous when trading equipment. Doyle is THE man when it comes to repairs or upgrading/modifying an amp or guitars/bass. If he can't do something, he will gladly give you a reference to someone that could. Great place for starter guitars and amps! read more

Concur with both Oscar and Bobby. Doyle is a very good amp and guitar man and I've learned this is where to take my vintage equipment for repairs in Boise. Both Ms. Kathy and Doyle are very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Although they may not carry everything that you may want to look at. They carry everything that you might need whether you are playing for just yourself, or on stage. read more

Love this place! Mr and Mrs. Doyle are the nicest people in Boise. They actually listen to you when you explain what you want, and if nothing they have suits your needs, they'll even refer you to another store. I'll go in there sometimes just to get advice on a repair, and they're always way more helpful than they need to be!! read more
