They seemed a bit short staffed and low stocked, but their pro audio guys are awesome! I went in to trade/sell an old DJ controller and some speakers. The guy who helped me out was super knowledgeable and honest about how I could get the best price. As i was trading, i noticed a Denon DJ standalone setup out for demo. I mentioned off hand that i was curious about it, and had a good conversation with the guy about how it compares to more expensive setups. It's definitely bang for your buck! I picked out some Audio Technica headphones for the trade, and did end up getting the protection plan (the guy was honest and we shared experiences of having headphones snap on us. Guitar & bass background - decent. Keyboards- not so much. After decades of upgrading and updating my road and studio equipment, I've found Guitar Center to be, well, iffy. All stores stock the same products, but expertise varies from shop to shop. As a keyboardist with a decades long background in music retail, I'm sometimes disappointed at the less-than-current knowledge of staff in that department. read more

I went there to look at headphones. There way one guy helping someone at the counter. It seemed to be taking him quite a while to help his customer. There was never any acknowledgment that he saw me. I did not see any other employees and after 10 - 15 minutes I wandered around and never saw anyone. I usually expect someone to approach me it see if I needed help especially when you have your nose pressed against the glass of the case. I gave up and headed out. If they were super busy I could understand not getting great service. Felt like Home Depot service. I doubt I will go back. At least I saw headphones. I have been in other Guitar Center's that had great service and you feel good when you leave. Too, bad there aren't too many places where you can shop for wired headphones and cables. read more

I bought what I thought was aMIM Fender Strat. I wanted to find out what year it was by checking the serial number. That is when I found out that the neck and tuners were Fender. I feel like they did be honest about the guitar. read more

I agree with the bad reviews. They don't acknowledge the customers. I literally was there for about 45 minutes and nothing from anyone. It wasn't very busy. I was fiddling with some guitars and amps. I probably tried out 4 basses and 3 guitars. You would think they like to sell some maybe? I even submitted an application a while back. I have lots of customer service experience. I haven't worked in a music retail environment yet. I am a musician with some fair knowledge. Never heard from them. I recently applied again. I just want people to enjoy coming in. Music is fun. If you want out of the box at a full retail price, with a mediocre customer experience, this is the place for you. I really only go here when I need something right away. They guy that repairs amps and does guitar set ups is probably their best employee. I've had some good friendly service at the counter, but there have been times I've waited in line 10 or 15 minutes for no good reason. As a matter of principle I question any business that makes it a policy to collect my personal information (name, phone number, and email address) just to make a purchase. Seriously, I just want to buy some picks, and I'm paying cash, why does it have to be a 15 minute odyssey ? They'd do well to have a faster checkout experience nailed down. read more

I've always had great visits here, until I brought my Les Paul I built from scratch, which to me is worth more than a real Gibson, but I has a minor problem with the electronics, so I took it to Zach, their "guitar tech". He just acted like it was such a bother and he couldn't even talk to me, he would tell another co worker something and the co worker would tell me (the co worker was nice, he has long brown hair incase you're wondering who he was). Zach did not help at all! Then I get home just to realize he broke a wire and chipped some of the finish on the back! I can tell he did that with a screwdriver. So I am very disappointed. The people who work here are fine. Some are great. Some are less so. They are certainly no worse than any other commission based corporate store. People should have compassion for them, imo. The problem with this store, and why I give it 2 stars - the selection of music equipment here is pitifully small. The prices are not competitive with online, and the selection is truly atrocious. I'd say 80% of their inventory is low cost toys made in China, not actual musical instruments. Of course they will break, of course they won't sound like you are expecting. If you are a first timer, go in and get your epiphone, beat one it and get your mustang guitar amp and you'll probably be happy. Anyone else would honestly just do better to take a very short plane ride to Hollywood and have the musical world at your finger tips, with prices to match. So, the guys and girls at this store are fine, but the inventory and size of the store is what really let's you down. It's just not set up to sell quality instruments. The Home Depot of music stores. Whatever, they've had what I've wanted and I dealt with friendly, helpful staff each time I've been in. I recently bought a new stringed instrument there (if I tell you what, you'll make fun of me. It starts with a B and ends with -anjo). After a month, I ended up breaking an integral part of it from shredding so hard (not). I brought it back in. They had another one on the shelf which they handed over and even put the front strap hook on for me. Can't beat that for service. The only thing I don't like is how busy it gets on the weekends with kids (and some adults) living their dreams of death metal stardom on the drums and electric guitars. You can't hear anything but the tinnitus once you walk out. Every once in a while someone who knows what they're doing picks up a guitar and it's fun to listen to. read more

I called this afternoon asking about a starter acoustic for my son. Josh answered and was very helpful giving me a few makes and price options. We went in shortly after and they were busy ( happy for that!) Nick greeted us and gave us some direction. He was bouncing between 4 or 5 different customers but always came back to check on the progress. My son tried a couple and again Nick was right there to see he had what he needed and rang up the sale. Very pleased with the level of service here. This was one of the worst experiences I've had in a while. Walked in asking about guitar strings. I was treated like I was stupid. Everyone was in a rush even though we were one of the only customers in the store. Everyone was irritated and I just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. I went in this store for the first time 2 weeks ago. I was immediately greeted and welcomed to the store. At entry is a table with a sign regarding face coverings and hand sanitizer. THANK YOU for that ! The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable without being pushy. They guided me in the directions that I needed to go. I have a 1948 acoustic guitar that needed some attention and when I talked with Fred, he reassured me that they could take care of it for me. While there I ordered a new guitar. Less than 1 week later, I was contacted about my repairs being done as well as my new guitar having arrived. EVERYONE in this store was more than helpful, knowledgeable, and seemed genuinely concerned about my needs and wants. In these scary days of COVID, I appreciate businesses that have my well being in mind as well as their own. I bought a used acoustic guitar in December 2018 from Guitar Center in Boise and picked in up on Jan 10th. It was in great condition and I was very happy with the purchase. About 2 weeks or so later I got a call from Guitar Center, I wish I could remember his name. Seems that my guitar also had a hard case with it which I had no idea about. He asked me if I wanted to pick it up or have it shipped. They shipped it to me free of charge and I had it about 3 days later. It was also used but in very good condition. I'm giving a 3/10 because it took 10 days to complete the work on my guitar and I was told it would take roughly 3-4. I never received a phone call even though I was promised 3 different times that I would. I requested very specifically to have specific pieces of the guitar saved and once I finally got the guitar back the tech had completely forgotten about my request. I had the ONE request and it was actually very important to me and completely disregarded. Not sure I'll come back to this place. Everyone was still kind and helpful, but it only takes one person to ruin an experience, so thanks for that. read more

Dason W. is right. These guys are jerks. Well at least the ones I have encountered. I have tried to go in there three separate times to ask some questions (help choosing a neck, checking setup, etc.) and every time was made to feel like I was wasting their time. This was on a variety of days and times. Eye rolls, huffs of irritation, rushing through questions with answers like "yeah yeah" or "whatever" or "doesn't matter" and the like. I even told the guy "I don't mind just looking around until you get time." His reply? "If I don't help you now, I won't help you." He then proceeded to brush me off in about 30 seconds. Yeah, thanks buddy. I shouldn't have even asked you. The crazy thing is that they depend on new people like me and Dason. Yet they can't be bothered with such beginners. When your business depends on something that is hard to learn and easy to quit, and then you make people feel like they shouldn't even be trying? Wow. Great business plan. I still have the same questions and would like advice but I won't be going back to this place. When you walk out of a store feeling worse than when you walked in, that's a bad sign. If you want to feel unwelcome and have your motivation squashed then shop here. Very rude and condescending. All around unpleasant experience. read more

I purchased a new Yamaha Arius piano from the Boise store in July 2019 (approx. $1,000), and, at the sales person's recommendation, purchased an extended repair warranty for an additional cost. Within days past the 90-day return date, the piano simply stopped powering on. I brought the adapter in to see if it was the adapter, it was not. The sales person was quite helpful and worked with Yamaha's warranty department to find out the process. Well, you have to go to a Yamaha authorized dealer, which, in Boise, is Welch Music (great place!). From there, Guitar Center handed me off to Welch Music. The authorized repair person at Welch Music (Lanny) inspected the piano and was of the opinion that the piano had what looked like soldering from a prior repair job (as if it was a refurbished, rather than new piano)--I purchased a new piano (or so it seemed...). I contacted the Boise Guitar Center with the information and was basically told "oh, well"--its Yamaha's problem. No other follow up, no trying to make it right. After at least two trips to my house to try to figure out how to get the piano to work, Welch Music had to order a new motherboard (it is a digital piano). Lanny spent an enormous amount of time on the phone with Yamaha to come up with a solution. When the new motherboard was delivered, he came to my house after his normal work hours to install it. On December 10, the piano finally worked after about two months of struggle to repair....but....on Christmas Day (about 6 months after original purchase), the piano isn't powering on again, so I get to start the process all over. I am not faulting Yamaha--I'm assume I will get a new piano...but, the lack of follow-up or concern by Guitar Center with respect to the purchase I made from them (including that likely useless extended repair warranty) is a sure sign that this corporation is not customer oriented. I will not so much as purchase a sheet of music from this store. I do, however, highly recommend Welch Music! read more
