There was a catering event recently and I just wanted to say the food was absolutely delicious. Chicken picatta was different for me because of this mustard sauce they used and not like the usual butter lemon and capers. The Mediterranean fish was very good too. Used this catering service for my son's college graduation party from Temple University! The food was absolutely amazing! Everything from the appetizers to the miniature cupcakes for dessert was delicious! The food was so delicious I forgot to take pictures! Had to request business cards to pass out to the guests because everyone was raving over how good everything was! My husband and I decided to purchase the alcohol since not all our guests were drinking. Our Disappointing Experience with 12th Street Events When we signed the contract with 12th Street for my daughter's wedding, we were thrilled. The venue seemed perfect, and we were excited to work with their team. Unfortunately, once they received our signed contract and deposit, things took a turn. Pricing and extras The costs kept increasing, and by the end we had paid several thousand dollars more than originally agreed. One example, we were required to hire two additional servers because we requested all table linens steamed and ironed. Despite that, the linens still had visible crease lines and were clearly not fully prepared. We supplied an industrial steamer; the bottle for it was missing the next day and had to be replaced by the venue. Staff and logistics The event lead appeared to have little control over the staff. Ten minutes before the ceremony the bridal party needed to use the restroom, but one of the two available restrooms was occupied by two servers, forcing everyone to go downstairs. The two staff we paid extra for did not arrive when they were supposed to, three hours before the start of the ceremony. The staff seemed disorganized and distracted. Communication and professionalism The event coordinator was visibly stressed and difficult to communicate with; it felt like she was managing her first event. When we requested the food be served five minutes earlier than the timeline, she snapped, "You have five minutes," showing no flexibility or professionalism. When food was finally served, the planner confronted the bride in a harsh and unprofessional manner. The bride had not requested the change and did not deserve that treatment, so no tip was given to the coordinatior. The food Hats off to the chefs -- the food was excellent and memorable. Guests enjoyed the meal and had no idea of the issues happening behind the scenes. Final verdict We had high hopes for this caterer, but the lack of organization, professionalism, and respect for the client made this experience deeply disappointing. I rarely leave negative reviews, but after our experience with 12th Catering, I feel compelled to warn others. We placed a $2,000 order for a delivery drop-off for 50 people, expecting high-quality food, professional service, and a presentation that matched the price tag. Unfortunately, we got the opposite. First, the delivery was poorly handled--not only was it late, but the food was just dropped off with no care for setup or presentation. Some trays were messy, and there was no real effort to ensure things were arranged properly. Not pictured is a small sushi tray and a bowl of salad were missing, yet we were still charged in full. For the price we paid, we expected a premium experience, but instead, we received something that looked thrown together last minute. The portions were underwhelming, and the food itself was nothing special--certainly not worth $2,000. If you're looking for a catering company that delivers quality, reliability, and professionalism, I suggest looking elsewhere. We used 12th St. Catering for a day long celebration that included a bridal shower (Brunch and Bubbly) for 35 and then a family dinner for 25 people. There were lots of moving parts to the day long festivities but from the very beginning of the planning stages to the actual packing up of the delectable leftovers, Sarah and company were creative, competent, and caring. The food was absolutely delicious with raves coming from guests of all ages. And to top it off we had delicious leftovers so we could relive the wonderful experience once again. My company had breakfast and lunch catered from here yesterday and everyone was extremely satisfied! We had the food delivered and the crew set everything up neatly and labeling what was gluten free. For breakfast, we had Continental breakfast and French pastry breakfast box. Each box came with a few pastries, condiments and fruit. The chocolate chip muffin was outstanding! Lunch blew us all away. Each person received a cooler bag that contained our box lunch, dessert, beverage and ice pack. They provided both regular and gluten free options. I had the Harissa grilled chicken w/pomegranate cucumber relish and it was AMAZING! It came with quinoa and roasted carrots. The entire entree was delicious and I would love to get the recipe so I can make it myself. The dessert that came with it was also addicting. The gluten free version was eggplant and I know my colleagues said the sauce was on point. I would highly recommend this place for catering. Perfect for business meal! read more

What was especially helpful, is that they offered good opinions when we encountered decision fatigue. On our wedding day, we could count on their professionalism to handle all the small details, while we were busy taking photos, entertaining guests, and otherwise enjoying being in the moment. update... I am adding a star to my review rating as I realize my negative comments, while factual, only reflect one aspect of their business. The manner in which they handled the goof in their proposal still rankles, but I have to say that other aspects were positive. Their ability to customize the menu and the fairness of the food pricing were positives. It's just a shame their handling of the proposal prevented us from trying their food and enjoying their service. --------------------- Very poor handling of a simple contract proposal... We were offered a proposal for a wedding reception package for 140 people two weeks ago. Almost ready to sign and pay the deposit when we heard that they just realized the event was on the Labor Day weekend Saturday... So they need to charge time and a half for servers. What? (It adds an EXTRA $2500!) The event isn't ON a holiday, it's on the weekend where the holiday is on Monday. Nothing in the contract says anything about time and a half for holiday weekends. They knew what date the wedding was on, they had it on their contract. I was told they wouldn't honor the contract if I signed it and paid that day. First, assuming it was a sincere mistake because someone didn't pay attention to the calendar (very unlikely), wouldn't you think someone would have picked up on the holiday issue within a day or two? And then missing that opportunity, wouldn't it have been the fair business decision to eat their mistake and uphold a written contractual offer? But apparently because someone decided they needed to be greedy, after discovering the mistake two weeks later, they decide I should just grin and pay up? Though I guess I'm the one who blew it because I didn't sign the proposal right away? Then again, given how they reacted (No wiggle room!) I am sure they would have broken the contract later anyway. Yes, every catering business is hurting but that was very pathetic business tactics, especially amid a pandemic when the public hasn't been able to have large gatherings for weddings for a year! I wasn't trying to take advantage of them, they simply screwed up and wouldn't stand behind their offer. Classic bait and switch. The only reason they get 2 stars is because their catering menu sounded phenomenal. Too bad they blew their chance of getting my money. read more

From receiving the menu selection, short-listing options, to our tasting, Dan and Harry were extremely involved in ensuring we had a positive experience. Several of our guests had severe dietary restrictions, and 12th Street went above and beyond in ensuring we had the right selection of foods available to make for a successful evening. Our family has had a relationship with 12th Street Catering for many years, all the way back to eating mexican food at their location in the Reading Terminal 20+ years ago. When we found out that 12th Street was one of the preferred caterers for the National Museum of American Jewish History, it was a no brainer. They created our perfect menu, bloody mary bar (his), margarita bar (hers), an amazingly delicious and beautiful cake...I mean, nothing could have been better. They made suggestions for linens and colors to fit our vision and even helped with the full timeline of our day. The icing on the cake - ha ha - is that the staff, particularly Marianne and Michelle go ABOVE and BEYOND. This is the most wonderful catering company in Philadelphia. I can't say enough great things about Harry and the team at 12th St. From the moment we booked them for our wedding at PAFA, Harry made himself available to help us via phone, email and even meetings at the venue. He is insanely organized and really helped move the whole planning process forward, beyond just the catering segment! My mother-in-law, who felt the brunt of the stress, completely trusted him and would frequently tell me to "ask Harry about that" because that's just who he is--the guy with the answers. Midway through planning, our contact at the venue left--Harry totally stepped into that role, making him not just the catering lead but also, effectively, the venue lead too. Despite this, nothing slipped through the cracks. On the day of, Harry continually checked in on my wife and I to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. His positive energy really made us feel calm and present. His team adapted extremely well to a minor timeline issue (which was our family's fault, not theirs!) during the reception. And, of course, the food itself was phenomenal! We appreciated how many vegan options were available to choose from. Several guests specifically mentioned how delicious their meal was, including a cousin who is a restaurant owner. I cannot recommend 12th St. enough. My experience with 12 Street Catering was less than desirable, more specifically w/Mark, Director of Delivered Catering. We contacted Mark over a month before our scheduled event. We covered the desired menu, delivery and many other associated details. After these details were ironed out, we were sent an official menu with pricing. We were under the assumption that this official documentation served as confirmation of our order. A week before the scheduled event, we reached out to Mark to re-confirm things and we were told that because we did not leave a deposit and there was no communication since the official menu was sent, our order and delivery was canceled. First, I would like to state that there was never a mention of a deposit. This was a very large order so naturally, if we were made aware of the need for a deposit, we would have paid it immediately. Secondly, there was never communication from Mark stating that if a deposit was not submitted, the order would have to be canceled. This was an event being held for one of our largest clients so hearing that it was canceled was extremely stressful, especially with such short notice. After contacting Mark about this, he was extremely unapologetic about the miscommunication and seemed very uninterested in attempting to find a solution to satisfy everyone involved. My colleague was forced to pitch the idea of the order still being fulfilled as long as we were willing to pick up the order at 6:30am. Might I mention, this order was for 100 people. After more back and forth, Mark informed us that the order could still be fulfilled if we picked it up. It has always been my experience, especially with corporate dealings, that every avenue is to explored prior to making the decision to cancel an order, especially one of this size. Mark's unwillingness to work with us was more than apparent and, as I am sure you can imagine, has put a very bad taste in our mouths with regard to 12th Street Catering. We work with another reputable local caterer and they are always willing to work with us and go the extra mile when needed. This was not the case with this establishment. As a result, we will not be seeking out their services again. Compassion and exceptional customer service are key in fostering relationships with returning customers. Unfortunately, we will not be able to forge such a relationship. read more

The first time I had it, I had a sandwich and it was so good I had to ask where they got the food from. Today, I had the veggie wrap and it was so good I had to review. 12th Street Catering (actually, it's official 12 Street Catering) catered my rehearsal dinner and my wedding reception in June. They were fantastic. Let me count the ways. From the very first meeting, they understood what we wanted. We wanted to do a lot of things DIY - the reception was in my parents' backyard -- and they were completely on board. They didn't ever push us to spend more money and they explained why we should want to spend money on certain things -- like servers (they were right!). They met with the people at our rehearsal dinner site (we don't live in Philly, so it was great that they made those connections without us) to discuss what needed to be done and to get permission to cater there. They were open to our menu selections and never made us feel like our taste was questionable. They were fantastic at getting us to think through what we needed to consider (everything from the moment the guests arrive). At the walk through at my parents', they helped us realize what we needed to do and they surprised us by being willing to do things that we thought we'd need to get our friends to do. And they did it too! When my parents' arrived from the ceremony, the servers wanted to be given more to do and they helped set up our origami paper lights and other decorations that we thought were not their responsibility but we were pleased that they were willing to do it. They took the menu cards that I had made and used the same font and graphics to make cards for the buffet showing what each dish was, creating a sense of continuity through all the things we printed ourselves and making our DIY stuff look much more professional. I had one conversation with one caterer at the reception, and other than that, they didn't need direction from us. My parents were really happy with them, too. They came on the Monday after the wedding to pick up things they had to leave. Also, the food was fantastic at both events -- a fish and a meat for each dinner and amazing vegetables and macaroni and cheese sides! We got so many compliments on how good it was. But the thing that makes a caterer deserving of a five is that even when there was an error in the numbers that we thought originated with them, they admitted it and swallowed the cost of correcting it. I don't think they make errors often because they are obviously seriously professional, but their willingness to take care of it themselves gave us every faith and confidence that we were in good hands and so made the whole weekend just magnificent. read more

Though our first contact was relatively unresponsive, Mark at 12th Street was very accommodating and did whatever he could to make sure our event happened within our budget. He provided expert suggestions for the menu, working with our expectations and requests. We opted for full dinner with two entrees and two sides: grilled chicken, tortellini, roasted veggies, and potato fingerlings. We heard over and over that the food was excellent. There were several trays of food left over, and the staff kindly packed it up for us to take home or distribute amongst volunteers. I went to a wedding catered by 12th street yesterday. there were serious pros and cons. pros being that they went completely out of their way to make vegan options. especially great considering the two brides were not even vegan! they did smart things like make pasta and put the cheese AND nuts on the side, they labeled EVERYTHING for allergies, and all the caterers had a great smile and terrific attitude. The highlights for me were: 1)The fruit they brought was extremely high quality, you can tell someone went to great lengths to choose the berries. and 2) the roasted veggies were artfully done and displayed beautifully. the chef chose the most perfect asparagus and roasted the eggplants amazingly. All the other guests RAVED about the omelet station and the non-vegan food i didn't try. They did a great brunch and the presentation was on par with the quality. You could tell that CARE and THOUGHT was put into the food. i had to take stars off because they actually FORGOT to bring the plates. it caused a little bit of an uproar and really *really* stressed the brides out on their special day. i mean all of us attending the wedding didn't care that we had to wait for the food, it just pained me to see the brides and their mothers running around stressed out and apologizing to everyone.... read more

12th Street catered our wedding reception last weekend. The food was just okay, nothing exceptional. My biggest qualm with the food was that the dumplings were clearly frozen and reheated. I've had an identical (or better) product from the grocery stores. Also, some of the horderves unfortunately seemed like they could have come straight from a fast food drive-through. The entrees were for the most part acceptable - my only problem here was that the beef seemed a bit slimy. The appearance of the event was the best thing 12th Street did. I will say that I could not have decorated the venue as well as they did and it was a pleasant visual experience. Everything was neat and clean, and the staff did a good job of keeping the space tidy. The service was the most troubling aspect of the event. The staff was efficient at their tasks (serving food and wine, distributing water, clearing trash) and Michele appeared to be friendly on the surface. However, I witnessed her reprimanding a member of her staff in front of myself and other guests in a way that felt surprisingly unprofessional. I felt badly for the poor kid who seemed to have made an honest mistake. This left a pretty bad taste in my mouth as far as my opinion of the company goes. All in all, I was not thrilled with the job 12th Street did. Some of the sub-par food could have been forgiven if it hadn't been for the incident with the service that I mentioned, or vice versa. The appearance of the event was not enough to make up for those two things for me; I believe it is the least important aspect of the three, anyway. I would attend an event catered by 12th Street in the future and give them a second chance (and even amend this review if necessary), but I definitely would never personally hire them. PS. Their website boasts of their "green mission", yet they were throwing all bottles (both plastic and glass) in with food waste. I can't comment on the other claims they make on this page, but touting a pro-environment policy that alleges recycling is simply false. read more

We use 12th Street Catering for business breakfasts and lunches at my office. They are very nice and have a lot of good foods. They have gluten free and vegan, vegetarian options. The presentation is very clean and professional. We are suppose to have net 30 days terms but, the person from their AP office was calling before the 30 days to get the money for this two day business meeting. Yesterday was my 50th birthday. I wanted to have a special Fiesta with great food but I didn't want to cook it myself, even though I'm a really good Italian girl who has learned to make delicious Mexican food. I am so glad I was referred to 12th St. Catering! Genna Viozzi helped me select the food for my party and this really nice man Terry delivered it to my house and set up the buffet for me. I ordered the tequilla lime flank steak, and chicken breast stuffed with spinach and roasted peppers in a delicious spicy tomato-y sauce. It came with Mexican rice, hand made tortillas, guacamole, freshly made tomato salsa, seasonal roasted vegetables, tortilla chips, biodegradable plates and cutlery and even napkins! Oh my God, and the beautiful green salad with jicama, red and yellow cherry tomatoes, queso fresca and cilantro lime dressing. The food was abundant, beautiful to look at, absolutely delicious and pleasing in every way! 12th Street Catering exceeded my expectations! Last night Michelle and her team gave me the best gift for my 50th birthday party - an INSANE evening. My guests can't stop raving about the food, drinks and service. Not only was this the best wedding food I've ever had, but it was probably in my top 10 meals and that's coming from two people who are OBSESSED with food! All of our guests said how amazing the food was and it was truly unbelievable. For appetizers we had: grilled lambchops with a lavender dipping sauce, ahi tuna sesame cones, olive oil sweet cakes with goat cheese, and jumbo shrimp cocktail. We cut out the cheese display because of the price, but because Marianne was such an amazing vendor and host, she threw it in as a surprise for us all! The main course was a buffet style of pumpkin raviolis in sage butter sauce, pecan crusted chicken with a rum jungle glaze, and espresso steak with sides of roasted garlic broccoli, fall vegetables, and brown rice pilaf. So many of our guests told us how they went up to seconds and thirds, and one cousin told me the pumpkin ravioli was, "revolutionary!" Awesome caterers! We used them for a 2 days meeting in UPenn and everybody was sooooo happy. Food was great, always on time, super clean and organized, hot coffee in every break and all for a super reasonable price. But the best of all was the service!!!! Unfortunately I cant give more than 5 stars. We did everything by email and phone (I'm from Baltimore) and Estie was AMAZING. She did everything possible to accommodate all (ALL) our requirements.
