With…read morean Art Deco style that is immediately eye-catching, a quality screen, loud sound system, and great pricing, this is a great single-screen theater that's only open on weekends. It's also the only theater in town at the time of this update. The only downside is the seating. Despite being updated, they are not modern, reclining plush seats. I get why this was done, so as to not clash with the retro vibe, but the nearby Rivoli theater in Hastings updated to more modern seating despite being old-school as well, and its charm and vibe remained intact so I do wish the same would've been done here because the seats can get very uncomfortable after a while. Worse, if a showing is particularly busy, you'll be so close to someone that you may as well be sitting on their lap due to how close the seats are to each other. Skinny legends need not worry, but RIP anyone who is tall, broad, or even a little plus-sized because you will be shoulder to shoulder. Still, despite the shortcomings of its seating, this theater is still excellent. Tickets are inexpensive at $5 a pop and concessions are also very affordable. It's definitely great place to catch a movie, just keep in mind it may be a little uncomfortable. Oh, and also a little annoying if there are any rowdy kids around.

The other theater which continued to the 1980's, The Capitol, was built as a Vaudeville theater and had a groovy 1920's balcony. It is now a parking lot, and I suspect it will remain in that state. Every city in America has the same sob story. The Grand, however, survived. It even has its share of first-run movies, and the local volunteer network who works on its upkeep likes to do nice things like replace and repair the art-deco lights and generally make it a decent place to go see a show (including the occasional live music performance).

A very impressive, small-town theater. This used to be an old, closed, rundown theater, but it was…read morerecently renovated and reopened. It competes with the nearby downtown Fridley Rivoli 3 and The Grand in downtown Grand Island. Having been to all three, GT's offers a mostly better experience. The interior is rather basic, but the exterior is pretty nice. The retro aesthetic and lighting of The Grand and Rivoli definitely look nicer. There are three screens at this theater, and the best one is easily theater 1. It's the largest auditorium so it has the largest screen which looks very nice once the lights are off. The other two theaters are smaller, but GT made surprisingly good use of the space as the seating and screen sizes are pretty decent. Seating in all theaters is extremely comfortable since the seats are heated "luxury" reclining seats that also have handy tray tables attached for food and drink. About the only area that could be better is the sound system. GT employs a relatively standard 7.1 Dolby Digital system in two of their theaters (at least going by their website) that could stand to be a little bit more powerful and more modern. At one point it was advertised that there would be a Dolby Atmos sound system here, but that clearly fell through. That being said, the sound system is still (at least in theater 1) very good for a small-town theater. Overall, this is probably the best theater to visit if you're in the Hastings/Grand Island area. While the Rivoli is still a very good option, I feel like the screen and sound system are better here. I also like that the parking is much more accessible since it's its own lot. Pricing is pretty much identical too, so really the main advantages the Rivoli has are its 3D capable screens, retro charm, and higher seating capacity. Compared to The Grand (about 25-ish minutes away), this location offers a more comfortable movie-going experience with more viewing options too since it's open every day instead of only on weekends. To be fair, though, The Grand is meant to be more of a discount, second-run theater than a main one. However, since the AMC theater closed, it's Grand Island's only offering at this time. Regardless, I am definitely glad there are more choices in the area as more competition breeds better experiences all-around, and I look forward to visiting this location in the future. I also hope it inspires those developing the area in Grand Island to really go big or go home.

I feel like a kid again anytime I get to go to a classic (nostalgic) theatre. I'm not that old (in…read moremy mind anyway), after all, my dad worked here as a kid. Probably my first time here in a decade or two. I was in town and somehow Deadpool and Wolverine was opening a day earlier here than in the rest of the world. Went with my nieces since I'm the "Cool Uncle". (I'm sure that's how they see me ;-) Tickets and popcorn were half what I pay where I live now. And I was definitely happy they upgraded to the comfy reclining seats. And there in lies the rub. For whatever reason, while most of the theatre's floor is on an incline, the floor between the last two rows must not be. And my niece's boyfriend got tickets for the back row. The guy in front of me was not excessively tall, nor was he wearing a giant hat, but when I reclined in my comfy chair his head rose like the morning sun into my field of view. I ended up sitting bolt upright for the entire movie. This would have bothered me more had I not been watching such a fantastic movie. Definately go see movies here . . . . just don't sit in the back row.

Updates and renovations have made this into one of the better theaters in the area. While it may…read morenot have the most exciting exterior or lobby, the theaters themselves have a historic, old-school vibe to them and feature modern, reserved seating that are incredibly comfortable. The theater has three screens, and the main theater (no. 1) particularly stands out. Screen and sound quality are good, but they're not as elevated as the seating. I wish the sound system was louder, deeper, and more refined. Also, since the location is downtown, parking can be all over the place. Stalls up front fill up fast. Pricing is fair, but do keep in mind this is still a small-town theater so temper your expectations if you've been to theaters outside the area like those in Lincoln or Omaha. Overall, though, this is a good theater made even better by the new updates and I've had nothing but pleasant experiences every time.

Ticket pricing is very reasonable compared with the theaters in York and Lincoln. Concession pricing is outstanding when compared with those same theaters. Promotional popcorn buckets were sold for various movies (most recently Jurassic World) which can be used for future movies at a decent refill price.
