It was a mingling type of event with finger foods, including Bruschetta Crostinis, Cheeseburger Sliders, Fried Chicken Sliders, Spring Rolls, Coconut Shrimps, and Assorted Flatbreads. We were here for the first time since their opening about 5 years ago, it was when we were a big fan of our local brewing company "Brock St Brewing co" which this restaurant is affiliated with. I remember that I was very disappointed by the food, but at that time, I thought that they were just doing some experimentation to introduce interesting Asian fusion food in this culinarily underwhelming town of Whitby. Thought it would be a good try. So I decided to come back maybe after this place settled more, but then COVID hit. And we never had a chance to come back until today. Unfortunately, the food experience was even worse this time. And their beer went very far from my beer preference, serving a lot of beers with wacky flavors - looks like those beers are taking over their craft beer lineups. Food: We had # Charred octopus with seasoned tomato sauce, chorizo, Calabria chili, ink tapioca crisp. Well, Octopus did not have "charred" flavor. Surface had no crispness. The portion was huge, but the octopus was rubbery texture, dry. The tomato sauce underneath it was just too much for the octopus portion. Over-seasoned & salty tomato sauce with additional salt and spice from chorizo pieces. Do they want to make me thirsty to sell more beer? Yes that might have worked, and unfortunately it didn't. I waited for our server to order another beer but it took her more than 15 minutes to come to our table . # Jagerschnitzel : Essentially, schnitzel. Came with braised red cabbage, apple sauerkraut, Yukon mashed potato with "mushroom sauce". Schnitzel was endlessly huge but dry. Mushroom sauce tasted like can or some pre-made cheap & junky taste. A lot of mashed potatoes. Well suited for those who want to get a lot of comfort food to fill stomach with no intention of enjoying delicacy. Beer was OK. They have rotating beer selections on tap. We had tap beers such as IPA, Scotch Ale and Premium Pilsner. IPA was not as good, it left a lot of one-dimensional bitter aftertaste. If I want IPA then I will go to Town Brewery. Premium Pilsner was good. We also had Scotch Ale which was also good with nice Scotch aftertaste. Do I come back? No, if the food quality remains the same. read more

My first time dining at 12welve Bistro and I left feeling full of gratitude, contentment and happiness. The food was fresh, and delicious, definitely a unique attraction in Whitby. My party tasted a variety of appetizers and mains and every single one knocked it out of the park. I couldn't decide what I liked more, the Pretzel Sticks, the Fish and Chips or the flatbread. The service was outstanding in every way, transparent when they were getting slammed and gracious to host us. When our drinks were taking a while because it was really busy, they let us know. They were on top of our meal times and refills. Take a shot at eating in Whitby with my friend. You can park on the street for free after 6pm. This restaurant is in the downtown of Whitby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were a few tables, definitely wasn't too busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The appetizers came quickly, the fish taco was a huge size with a great slaw and crispy fish. This was a big dish with two big pieces of octopus on a bed of tomato sauce with sausages, loads of olives and capers - this combo is already a salt bomb but it tasted like it was seasoned even more with too much salt. The oxtail stew was very disappointing, this dish was $39 and the portion was small - the meat was pulled off the oxtail and there was very little meat. The sauce was way too salty, we both had one bite and packed it to go. I felt like this was a rip off. I wouldn't come back here for the food - they had the Toronto pricing but the quality was not there. read more

All the food I have tried at 12 has me wanting to go back! From the duck fat poutine appetizer to the spicy burger, I haven't tried something I didn't like. My first time there I got the duck carbonara and I think I could eat that every time I go. I have branched out, getting a burger and the fish and chips at different events. All was a class above the other restaurants in the area and I could recommend it more. Sit at the bar for the best service. Speaking of the bar, the only downside I have is the drinks. Of the two beers and two ciders I've tried made by 12, I would have rather gotten a generic brand as the taste isn't what I look for. To each their own, my coworkers have enjoyed the beer! read more

Went here for birthday dinner, and ended up with terrible food and service. Out of the 8 dishes we tried 7 will certainly keep us away from this restaurant. I'm surprised this place has more than two stars. The flat bread had hard tasteless bread, the sauce was very close to flavourless pasta sauce, topped with some meat I couldn't identify. The fries the waitress told us were meant to be soft... but they were cold and limp. The burger was less than average. Sweet potato fries were good. The seafood pasta, it was loaded with curry powder, to the point that it was gritty with coconut milk, the flavour is closer to Singapore noodles, not even close to Panang curry (missing tamarind sauce, lime, spice, and most other thia flavours). The salmon came with raw risotto. The beers were good, but the Margaritas tasted like vodka with water, that rimmed on 30% of the glass. The service was one of the worst I have experienced, our server brought flat pop, when we let her know the coke a was flat, she told us she knew, but they're not going to change the tank for the fizz. Rather than asking if we wanted something else she almost looked upset when we asked her for a different drink. She left before would could finish our order every single time. It was hard to flag her, and she didn't ask if our dinner was ok when it came. At the end of the meal, she didn't come when she saw our plates were sitting there and the cell phones were pulled out. She passed our table twice before asking to take away our empty plates. Our water wasn't refilled. This experience has made me want to learn to cook all of my own meals. Really nice place, a bit trendy, but still a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It's more than just a brewery, pub or bistro. Seems to be a hybrid of those styles and has a full bar, rather than just beer, which is nice to see. Food presentation is excellent! Had the Spicy Korean Friend Chicken Sandwich, was very good. Stopped in with a few friends for dinner. Got the pretzel app, dipping sauce was meh. Mustard was good but cheese sauce tasted fake and cheap. Flatbread was good, what you'd expect but very cheesy. Wagyu burger I hear was worth the extra $7 compared to regular burger. Everything was a bit overpriced but that is the norm these days. Good beer and good service. Went to 12welve Bistro as our first stop on a pub crawl and it was great!! They decor is gorgeous and I believe we were there during their soft opening which is why they closed the kitchen early and the whole place closed early for a Friday night. We were a group of 7 and decided to get a bunch of appetizers to share instead of full meals and it was a great decision. Korean Cauliflower Pakora - a great option for vegetarians and non vegetarians because they were so good!!! Each piece was massive and had a great spicy mayo on top of the glazed and battered cauliflower. We ordered 2 of these and they were gone so fast!! Butter Chicken Nachos - a HUGE plate of nachos that was generously topped with lots of meat and toppings!! The butter Chicken was seasoned and sauced really well and it also wasn't overly saucy which in turn kept the nachos nice and crispy and not soggy. Prosciutto and Pear Flatbread - one of the BIGGEST flatbreads I've ever seen. It was less of a flatbread and more of a flatbread shaped pizza but it was delicious!! The pear was a great addition to the flatbread and brought a perfect zing of sweetness to the flavour. Overall we had a great time and we left satisfied with the food, drinks and atmosphere. Aka Brock St. brewery fittingly named after the main downtown road in Whitby. This newly relocated establishment takes the tag "brewery" to a level like no other. Let's start off with the fact that it is a brewery, there is something to be said about the idea of being able to see the insides of a brewery wit their big containers/machines involved in the beer making process right from your seat. The vibe in the place isn't your typical bar, it's classy yet casual at the same time. A great place for a mid day meeting as well as a good start/finish to an evening with friends. Since it is a brewery, only fitting to start reviews with their beer. They have an array of brews, from your blondes, to ales, to lagers, to pilsens. All good. Unfortunately, at the moment, you cant get a pitcher of their beers. A kink they have to iron out still. Their beers are also not written on the drink menus, but the servers are quite knowledgeable of their options. You can get their beer flights from the beer shop at the other side of the bar. I like the bohemian pilsner myself. Food. The best bar food I have every had anywhere. They have amazing food here. The apps alone, tasty and delicious! We've had the Korean Cauliflower Pakoras. Superb size cauliflower with really delicious korean sauce. The next, butter chicken nachos. Authentic tasting butter chicken covering crispy nachos. Theres also the Chicken wings with the Raspberry BBQ sauce. Very tasty. The Pear and Prosciutto flatbread, also a must have, every bite of this you get the flavours of everything. Lastly, the Charred Shishito Peppers. these are tiny little shishito peppers that are so tasty. No fancy preparations just a nice char and some oil. Overall, this place has really exceeded my palates expectations with their exquisite food. The ambience is also quite nice. better than your big box pubs/sports bars. The building itself has 4 floors. With a party room that could host a party upto 150 people. The rooftop patio, soon to be open I believe. Definitely a must try in the durham region! read more

I finally had an opportunity to book the easy on 12welve experience - and I haven't looked back! This was an amazing evening for my husband and I. The jazz band was lovely and played at the right volume. The cocktail menu and wine list were exceptional. Unfortunately, they do not offer the full beer list that is available downstairs, but the staples are there. The food menu was exquisite - every dish was an adventure for the palate. The waitress was so attentive and cordial, even though we seemed to be the youngest people in the room. This evening out definitely beat a night at the movies or at The Keg. The Spicy Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich has a Craft Beer lagered blonde ale-infused crispy chicken, layered with kimchi, cucumber, slaw, and angry mayo. It's so big we had to split it in two. Also shown in the picture are the Sweet Potato Planks with chipotle dipping sauce and a killer Smoked Meat Sandwich with slaw and mustard aoli on rye. (3.5 stars) Great ambiance and service. All the apps we ordered were delicious especially the cauliflower pakora and prosciutto and pear flat bread. The butter chicken nachos were very watery at the end and the nachos turned soggy as well. To my surprise, the truffle duck fat frites came with shredded duck - which was a nice touch and turned into more of a poutine. I tried their mule with the berry twist and I prefer the original Moscow mule better. For the mains, the fish and chips portion size was huge. My duck confit carbonara fell flat. The duck wasn't crisped as I thought it would be at all. And the carbonara came as a pasta instead of in noodle form. Their Mac and cheese did not look like Mac and cheese at all. This place was the best kind of "pub" ish setting I have ever been to. It's like a classy pub crossed with a hipster brewery, and I am HERE for it. I loved the look of the ceiling, and the pictures of the beer brewing process were neat to look at. I thought the little cranks on the sides of the tables were a fun addition to the aesthetic. I liked it Service : The service was great. I thought the person who came was really nice, and patient.Took our orders, was attentive. Good experience Food: We got fries and wings. The raspberry wings were really tasty, i like the mix of sweet, heat and meat. The fries were very nice as well. Beer: We got two ipas. They did pass the test that they were bitter enough, but they also did not seem to have any other flavor to them. The beer that we had seemed very unbalanced. Good mouthfeel, and smell, and it looked good, but it lacked in balance of finish on the flavour. The west coast ipa tasted kinda like rotten grapefruit pith. I got some of their other beer to go, I will update this later, maybe IPA just aren't there forte. I've only found a few IPA I have really liked in Ontario. (octopus wants to fight, mad tom, godspeed, boneshaker). I would recommend eating here, but I am still a little iffy on the beer itself. read more

I've been to 12welve bistro about a half a dozen times so I'm grading my review on a bit of an upwards curve. My visit was particularly disappointing. The atmosphere and place are fantastic. And the food is really good, they have a great menu. One of my issues on my last visit were the portion sizes. I ordered the fish and chips and my girlfriend ordered the winter salad with chicken. We had ordered these before and the portions were about half size from before. The fish had a lot of batter and a thin piece of fish. The fries size was about a small McDonald's. My girlfriend mentioned they used half a chicken versus a full breast from before. At a cost of about $30 you expect to be full, but we were still hungry. My other issue was the feeling of being rushed by the waitstaff. We didn't have reservations so we sat at the bar. We arrived at 5pm on a Saturday and it was about 730 and after 3 rounds of drinks so I started hearing whispers "when these people are finished". Doesn't make you feel very welcome. But all past experiences were much better. read more

My friend and I went to 12welve on a Saturday evening and had an amazing experience! Our server Matt was super helpful and just overall awesome. It was our first time at this restaurant and he gave us the best food recommendations. We had the Korean cauliflower pakora which was absolutely delicious and full of flavour! The waygu burger was also a hit. Our absolute favourite was blueberry cheesecake for dessert! I can confidently say it was probably the best cheesecake I've had to date. Staff are really friendly and welcoming which made for a nice experience from that perspective. Ordered one of their eggs benedict brunch dishes as well as an omelette. The benedict was ok. It was assembled atop of a biscuit, which would have been great, except the biscuit was rock hard. Couldn't eat it. The homefries were over seasoned to the point that they were inedible. The omelette was prepared well and the masala sauce was tasty, but again the accompanying over seasoned homefries were inedible. Another downside for us is the oversized portions. For dining out I would take quality over quantity and feel that the focus here is on presenting a heaping trough of food rather than tasty, quality fare. This isn't in our neighbourhood so likely wouldn't return. We came as they advertised patio brunch dining. read more

Went here for a late lunch with a close friend and had an amazing time. The food and atmosphere are both incredible and the staff are friendly. We went on a Sunday afternoon so there was live music - a one man show with an acoustic guitar playing older rock classics. He was terrific and the large windows opening onto the street on a nice day all really added to the relaxed atmosphere. We shared the prosciutto and pear flatbread to start which was more than enough for the two of us to split. For the main, I got the Signature Beer Brat and my friend got the Curried Lamb Burger both with a side of truffle fries. Both meals were delicious and I highly recommend upgrading your side to the truffle fries, they're seasoned really well. Overall, I highly recommend this new find and will definitely be returning when back in Whitby. read more

The burgers are to die for, beautiful presentation and almost too much food to finish. Super juicy, meaty goodness. The fries are real potatoes, not previously frozen, an excellent side. Curried nachos are an original fusion and portioned for 3-4 good eaters. The tower avalanched a few times during the meal incorporating the cooler shredded lettuce and mango salsa with the huge chunks of curried chicken, melted cheeses and crispy chips. Warning, eat this quickly because there are so many toppings the chips get soggy fast Beer selection is PHENOMENAL!! So many original and winning beers join a seasonal selection posted behind the bar. We loved the Traditional Irish Red and the Smoked Lager. Atmosphere- Saturday afternoons feature a live band. We weren't expecting live entertainment. It was really good. Not so hot for little ones as the volume in the restaurant increased a lot once band started playing. We came here to eat as our original choice didn't open for 6 minutes and even though they saw us waiting outside, they didn't let us in out of the cold. Thanks, other place!! read more

We ordered three dishes: Spicy Bison Sausage Rigatoni, Chickpea Tikka Masala, and Teriyaki Chicken Stir-Fry. Everything was fresh and flavourful. The size of the dishes was more than generous -- the 3 dishes ended up making 12 portions, an incredible value for the price.
