Usually I really enjoy going to eat here, but this time I was extremely disappointed. First of all, half of the food I ordered did not even come. I reordered things twice, and still they did not come to the table. The chicken was so fatty I couldn't even eat it, very gross. At the end of the meal, my dessert dish came with a disgustingly dirty fork sitting on the plate with the dish. I don't even know what was on the fork, eel sauce perhaps. It really turned off my appetite. When I mentioned it to the waitress, she barely apologized, but didn't exchange the fork. Our order was confused three times. So was the people next to us. Unless you get a both or are in a party of more than two, you will become very comfortable with the guests next to you. I went to use the washroom, absolutely disgusting! I told the host that someone had thrown up all over the floor and toilet. This was not cleaned up the two hours I was there. Our last order took so long (over thirty minutes for two items); couples were sat in front of us and they did not have reservations. I asked three times for more ginger. Nope. Only after we ordered ice cream, received our bill, paid it, and were about to leave, did our last order arrive! I'm usually fairly forgiving with Japanese(ish) restaurants in Canada because I lived in Asia for 2 decades and became somewhat spoiled on mind-numbingly fresh, dockside sushi. That said, the menu at 168 sushi, while looking impressive, is a not even a long distance phone call from being what is dropped on the table by severely unimpressed, and likely over-worked, staff. Here's the no bull: sushi rolls are fresh and delicious. Maki rolls, likewise. Anything battered, however, might invite one to play the "lets find the shrimp in the 1/2 pound of fried flour" game. The seaweed salad was a surprising treat and quite delicious but the udon sides, fried or in soup, was possibly the worst thing I've tasted since accidentally swallowing ash from my cigarette while driving a motorcycle. As for the miso soup....it wasn't miso soup. The alternative meat dishes (teriyaki, curry chicken and whatever) are rather suspicious, gristly, and more gristly. A bowl of mango pudding, however, was a delicious distraction from the unbelievably bad service. Actually, the service was not absent so much as it was awkward. The staff, if standing next to the sushi, could keep the product chilled. The cashier: (insert expletive normally associated with the fairer gender here). Although the sushi was acceptably delicious compared to other options in the area, my wife and I will not return because the cashier and some of the wait staff may not have actually been human. read more

Came here for dinner with a friend. Good variety of food on the menu with some korean and chinese dishes mixed in. Feasted on salmon sashimi, nigiri, some rolls, some dim sum dishes, and the kal bi. Can only have limited one piece pink tuna sashimi. Unlimited tuna sashimi is the white tuna. Service was good. read more

Went there today with my nine-year-old daughter and she payed full adult price for the buffet (but she didn't even eat anything of substance). Reason: there is a strip of tape on the wall in front of the cash at the exit and if you're taller than the tape, guess what, you're not a kid. Seems a little height discriminatory to me! I love this restaurant. I went during lunch and during dinner, and during lunch was not as good. The food was consistent, but during dinner you have way more selections. They barely add fillers, and the sashimi sushi and hand rolls are always made perfectly. During lunch, I found that the service was lacking. The food took a lot longer during lunch also. I don't often post reviews, but after this experience tonight I felt that we had to. My husband and our kids love sushi and we thought we would treat them to a nice sushi dinner. We were not half way into the supper, when my husband started having "tummy troubles".. He went to the washroom, and during this time the waiter that was serving us went as well. My husband witnessed him doing his business and left the washroom WITHOUT WASHING HIS HANDS what so ever... My husband came back to the table completely appalled. He no longer wanted to eat anything... And after he told me what he saw, neither did I. He requested to see the manager to discuss the issue and he said to him: " what do you want me to do about it?" We actually had to explain to him how disturbing that was, and that hygiene in a restaurant (or anywhere) is important! Hello! E-coli! We have a 5 week old daughter... The manager tried to convince us to move to another side of the restaurant. Like that would make a difference! He agreed to have us pay 50% of the meal, until I came over, then he said:" Give me 20$ and that's it." No bill, no paper trail. I said that's enough, let's pay it and get out of here. I didnt actually think anything would happen to me, but we have all had tummy troubles all night and that concerns me.. I am breast feeding my baby. Best Sushi place in Ottawa BUT, if you order too much, they'll stop serving your orders. I understand there's etiquette at a place like this- order enough to get full, but don't take advantage. I love this place. I usually eat here with my father on Saturdays, and I will say that I am throughly impressed. The food there is really good and my good friend Nina's now in love with it too. The service can sometimes be a little of an inconvenient hassle, and when there' s a birthday they blast the "Happy Birthday" song. Kind of hurts my ears. On hot days it can get pretty cold in the buffet though. They turn the air conditioning up, WAY up, in summer. The prices also skyrocket, but we tried going to Hockey Sushi for a cheaper price and they disappointed us. The food at Hockey Sushi was tough to eat, and the price went down only, like, 5-4 dollars. So we decided to stick to this place. We are very impressed with its food and (sometimes) its service. Plus, they have iPad menu's and an Independence store right beside it for groceries. I would recommend all the sushi lovers out there! Besides, who doesn't like a Guava candy after a meal? Lol. read more

The food is mediocre. There are limits on certain foods. Half of the menu is not Japanese. The service varies greatly depending on which server you get. Our server asked if we can stop ordering while we were still in the middle of our meal. She was rude and unattentive. They also never bring you the number that you order. Went for lunch (ordered the dinner menu so I could get sashimi). I only went by myself and only order sashimi, a few sushi and a couple of the rolls. The place was kind of busy, so at first I understood when the food didn't come right away. After like 20-25 min, a small plate of sashimi came. For others like rolls, I ended up waiting over 45 min and IT STILL DIDNT COME. I looked around and everyone who has come in after me, have already gotten their tables full of food. I kept calling for the servers but it ridiculously seemed like they're trying to avoid customer contact which I don't even understand. I work as a server myself, and You don't want customers to have to wave their hands for straight five min to get someone's attention. Eventually this guy came and told me to " I'll check on them. Give me some time." Five min passed and nothing. I tried real hard to get his attention again and told him that I want to just cancel and leave. Paid 30 bucks to eat some sashimi and wasted my time. Been sitting on this review for awhile...but decided to share. I used to LOVE the food here...only ever had takeout... One night I ordered some curried chicken along with the tempura shrimp and sushi (I forget what the rest of the actual order was) It took quite awhile, and I got my order just before they closed. I specifically asked if napkins and utensils were in the bag because I was going to a hotel. I asked TWICE and the assured me yes, it was all there. I get to the hotel...no utensils, no chopsticks, no plates...and no soy sauce or ginger!! Seriously?? We ate what we could, but left the curried chicken for the next day to be reheated. I stopped back in to see them that morning and they offered me a $5 gift card and an apology. So, that night, I get to the cottage, dig into my curried chicken and right on top is a giant green (cooked) catapillar!!! After I finished throwing up....I put it the bug in a bag, took a picture...and froze it to return to them when I got back to Ottawa. I was so disgusted that someone could miss something that obvious...it was clear to me that they did not either clean, or inspect their vegetables. When I spoke to the manager, he kept asking me what I want. I said I don;t know...I want to know that this won't happen again. I asked him if I could speak to the owner, he said he was in Toronto, so I asked for the phone number...then he told me that the owner didn't speak english. I asked the manager how was I to know that he would talk to the people involved AND let the owner know what happened? He said he would make sure they knew. And then he had the nerve to tell me "you know...in my country we eat things like this" OMG!!! I was FURIOUS!! I live in CANADA!! We do NOT eat green caterpillars in our restaurant food!!! So, I got my money back....but I have no doubt that nothing was said or done about it. After all...they eat things like this back home. I just picked up an order of 3 avocado sushi rolls that I attempted to order online. I do not eat fish, which is why I order vegetarian rolls. But every single one of the 18 pieces had no less than 10 fish eggs attached to it, both on the rice and inside the avocado. It was impossible to pick out. I had to throw the whole order in the garbage, it was not edible. I have eaten there before and everytime there have been some fish eggs but I have tried to be tolerant and pick them out because my husband likes eating there. But this is unacceptable. On top of that, I ordered online and when I got there my order was not ready because I had not answered my cell phone to confirm my order because I was driving to pick up the food. So I had to wait another 15 minutes while they prepared it. Making my trip over 45 minutes to get a lunch that I can't even eat. Why do you have online ordering, if you have to call to confirm every single order before you process it? This makes no sense. I will never eat there again, there is clearly no care put into their food or consideration made about the people who will be eating it. Had a very disappointing experience here today. Got there around 2:30 and placed our first order. Everything arrived in a timely manner, but we finished off the food very quickly and ordered again. We waited 40 minutes and asked three people about our order, two of whom apologized for the wait but assured us our food was on it's way. The third person finally looked into it and came back to tell us that the printer that prints the orders to prepare had run out of paper and our order was lost. She put the order through again but then told us that since we'd been there so long we couldn't order again cause they were now preparing their dinner menu. After we pointed out that the reason we had been there so long is that our order never came she finally said we could place another order, but had to order right away. So we quickly put another order in without really having time to think about what we really wanted. After that things started arriving, but we didn't receive everything we ordered and and a few things showed up that we hadn't ordered.
