I tried Daldongnae 4 times now, but I've only ever been to the Somerset location in Ottawa. Every time I've been, the staff here are always super friendly and attentive. However, I've noticed out of the times I've went, I never seen a girl waitress- which is a bit odd? (But not complaining ) There are lots of seatings avaialble and the environment is very spacious with an authentic Korea-feel with the table design. During rush hours, it can get a little noisy. Wow, can't say anything bad about this place. I know it's a chain but this is the first location i've been to, and the first of the chain so i can't say if the others are like this, but this place impressed me. Looking for something different we read the menu and it says that there is vegan set for grill. We went there and the server was not knowledgeable enough of what vegan is. Any way he went and asked and confirmed so we ordered two sets between the four of us (3 vegetarians). The set is vegetarian (most of it and some is vegan) and - cheesy corn has cheese, the kimchi has fish sauce in it and they serve scrambled liquid eggs. The rest is all vegan - the veggies, vegan sausages (impossible or beyond), tofu and mushrooms. The table for 4 did not have enough room for all the stuff they bring in. We think the table is for 2 and then there is enough room for all food and people. The food is good and thank you management for providing a vegan/vegetarian option for people like us. We would have never had the pleasure of eating at a Korean restaurant. The condiments, pickles and sides dishes are amazing. Now that we have tried , I think we can try one more time. Because there was no room part of our order was spilled by the waiter as there just not enough room. All items promptly replaced. We also tried the Spicy Cold Noodle Salad. Given a big bowl and all the topping and gochuchang type dressing that you are to mix with provided gloves. Amazing salad. Would highly recommend the salad. read more

Tonight was my 2nd time visiting this restaurant. Great food and service at both times. Would love to try wagyu beef next time. My mom and I had beef short ribs and pork belly, with great quality. The best Korean bbq I have had in years. It is the real deal. You order a meat (each person at the table needs to order from the main section of the menu) and get all you can eat sides. The bbq grill had supplementary sides cooking bins all around and they put cheese corn, battered egg, Kim chi and sliced garlic there. The sides were a Korean jelly, marinated cucumbers, a potato salad, marinated chop suey, marinated spinach and Romaine lettuce leaves. Each person gets a small bowl with soy sauce and sliced onions, a side container of Korean sauce and sesame oil. Each table get a tofu soup. I wasn't sure how we were supposed to share that. We fished the contents and ate them. The place is decorated like a cosy street and as if you were sitting a bit at a table outside a restaurant, in an alley. It's really cute and inviting. It was delicious and a fun experience for a decent price. Definitely going again. read more

The food is pretty tasty, and the cuts of the meat seem good but it can get pretty pricey as the meats only come in 200g portions and I feel like it's not really enough for one person. You would probably need maybe 2 orders per person or so. It's also weird to me at a KBBQ where they don't have complimentary rice to wrap with the meat in lettuce wraps. Another thing is that the service was sooo spotty. The sides are "unlimited" as is the cheese corn and egg on the grill.. but you can literally never find staff to help you out. So I was thrown off by ordering a la carte for Korean BBQ, instead of AYCE. You need about one meat per person. We were given barely any samjang, I wasn't sure if I was entitled to ask for more. I was also stunned not to receive a bowl of pap (rice) I wasn't given a plate either, so I found myself awkwardly smearing samjang, meat, and banchan into my lettuce on my increasingly dirty napkin. This was a massive minus for me that affected how much I could enjoy the food. They had a really atypical lineup of banchan including acorn jelly, I liked the unusual banchans. The food was decent, a tonne better than the crappy Korean place that they replaced at this location, but my enjoyment was hampered by the no plate no rice situation. Perhaps I have to order rice and pay for each bowl, which is fine, but I didn't clue in to that. read more

Today I visited this restaurant with 3 other people, and I have to say our experience was AMAZING!!! I have been to Korea and have eaten BBQ there, I can honestly say this is the most authentic Korean BBQ in Ottawa. The banchans (side dishes) are ON POINT!!! if you consider the corn cheese, omelette, and marinated onions, they give you 10 banchans!!!! The dipping sauces were so good, I needed to get extra.the service was exceptional, the staff is very attentive. My friend ordered the vegan set and the cold noodle soup with kimchii broth (which we shared) delicious! The owner came to check on each table and made sure to remind us that all side dishes were unlimited. Great soju selection. Our first time here. We didn't tell it was only their 2nd day open. They are an authentic Korean bbq spot. You pick a minimum of 2 protein and it comes with what seems to be unlimited base sides. You can order extra premium sides as a cost. They have a variety of soju and pop as well. Service was a little slow but very understandable as they are still brand new. Staff and service were very apologetic and very nice. I felt like I was in Asia with it's intimate setting. This was absolutely one of the worse, if not the worst experience I've ever had. We got there and was seated pretty quickly. This was our first time trying the spot and so our server explained how it worked. At the start, different waiters would come to see if we were ready to order but as soon as we had ordered, the service was absolutely horrific. The food was good, not worth the high price but good nonetheless. We had finished our sides and asked a waitress if we could refill since the sides were free.. it never got to us. We were cooking our meats and realized that the burner was too high, we tried waiving waiters for half an hour while our meat kept burning on the outside but was still very raw on the inside, and was popping on us, yet absolutely NO ONE looked our way. I went to the front to get someone because it had become ridiculous now. A waiter came to lower the burner and we had asked again for a refill of the sides so we could eat it with our now burnt meat, he said he would bring it... he didn't and never looked our way again. We ended up eating the meat on its own as it was getting cold and called it a day. We had to waive down a waiter for another 20 minutes just to get the bill. The same waiter that had promised us to refill our sides was the same one wishing us a "nice rest of your day" after completely ignoring us our whole time there. The absolute worst experience and I would never go back again. read more
