Went here on the recommendation by 2 portenos that 1810 has the best empanadas in the city. We loved the empanadas - spicy beef and albahaca were our favorites. Although our server didn't speak any English, we used our sloppy Spanish and were able to communicate without issue, and the service was quick and attentive. Good, authentic, characteristically Argentinian cuisine. From the very outset, the fact that this restaurant's menu features neither steak nor pizza is eyebrow-raising. But an examination of the menu quickly reveals that the meal options are aimed at classic authenticity rather than mainstream dining priorities. Empanadas and soups make up the majority of the main eating options, when you don't count the surprisingly lengthy list of desserts. The empanadas are remarkably tasty, and the locro (heavy soup with meats and beans) fulfilled every physical longing in my body on a chilly September night. Golden. The space is nice: The level of character portrayed is quite surprising given how very plain it is. The best adjective is probably "rustic", which serves also to describe other amenities: The prominently advertised wifi works very intermittently (as confirmed by two visits at very different times), and the service can be a bit gruff. Come here to savor the empanadas! One of my favorite dining spots during my time in Argentina. Myself and fellow diner had a hankering for empanadas that don't have beef in them. Luckily enough, this place was conveniently located two blocks away from our hotel and the menu showed a ton of options for us. The place isn't enormous and is quite cozy. There were a few outdoor tables on the sidewalk, the rest are inside. There is quite the menu for food, empanadas being the highlight. Additionally, there was a robust wine list with reasonable prices. We sampled a variety of chicken, cheese, and vegetarian empanadas. Each person got three each and that was the perfect amount. Service was friendly and efficient. If you are looking for empanadas while visiting Buenos Aires, I'd recommend this place to anyone. I scanned all the Yelp reviews here before going and none of them mentioned this place is cash only. Bad luck for us that it was the only place we went for dinner in Buenos Aires that doesn't accept credit cards, and that going out, I tucked away my spare cash in my passport and only brought out a few hundred. We had 350 pesos and the dinner was 365, 15 pesos short! Rather complicated interactions later and a trip to the ATM and we left with our night slightly soured. The food was fine: a good chance to try the different types of empanadas on offer. The crusts were beautifully formed and the fillings interesting. We ordered three each, plus a stew, and it was actually too much (and left us no space for dessert). The stew was tasty, very rustic with choclo (a large grain of corn), beans and bits of meat. We washed it all down with an Argentinean beer. The prices were extremely reasonable, which might have brought three stars up to four if we hadn't had the payment problem. But because of that, it made me think: this was pretty basic food, OK but not particularly refined or special. Definitely recommended if you want to do an all empanada dinner, and they do seem to offer interesting local desserts, and some other specialties. Maybe more suitable for a lunch. Bring an appetite. Down here in Argentina and the first thing I had to try was some authentic Empanadas so I yelped it and this place seamed to be the best in the area. I ordered the Beef, Spicy Beef, Chicken in Onion Sauce and Mozzarella Tomato. Since I love tamales and it was on the menu I sure had to order one of those as well which was a total mistake! The tamale was cold and the beef was so hard I couldn't even chew it! It's in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, and I was told that I had to try it at least once and go back more if I liked it; I liked it. When in Buenos Aires, it's one of the "go to" places for EMPANADAS!!! The service was good after I got used to the accent because in Buenos Aires, the accent is different than most others that I have heard. Fluency in Spanish helps a lot because it took awhile to get used to the accents since el Rioplatense, which is the dialect that is spoken in Buenos Aires, is heavily influenced by Italian and Lunfardo. 1810 Cocina Regional is know for their empanadas, and they didn't disappoint either. They are baked and not fried and have different shapes for their different fillings of meat and vegetables. You can kinda think of them as mini-calzones. I have had empanadas which were fried, and I like these at 1810 Cocina Regional because they were baked with a light and very good tasting crust, not heavy or dense. Locro was good, too. It's thicker than soup and not as thick as stew. It's a combination of chorizo (sausage but not like Italian chorizo), beef and vegetables like maise and potatoes with what I assumed was a broth and tomato base. It's an interesting combination of flavors, and something that I definitely have not had in the U.S. I want to make it for myself and my mother but didn't get the recipe, so an internet search is necessary for that I suppose. The restaurant is in a nice location and easy to find. The staff are friendly and did well with our limited Spanish. Their service was efficient and prompt. They provided bread and it was accompanied by a tasty dip. The place has a strong reputation for empanadas but we opted for other options on the reasonably extensive menu. Vegan Girl had a number of choices which was a nice change for BA. Both meals were tasty and well presented. The only thing that wasn't good was that they don't take credit cards and this required a dash to an ATM. Apart from this it is definitely worth visiting. read more

Should have reviewed this when I was in BA, but now I get to look back in all my joy. Went here two times during my 5 months in Buenos Aires. This is a small place on a corner. The decor is rustic and cozy. Prices are a little on the higher side which surprised me, but the lunch specials were pretty reasonable. The empanadas were nice, good flavor. I can see it for a nice spot out of the way, good atmosphere, and good food. Is it the best, no but above average for sure, and it fits in-between the big fancy stuff, and the small little stuff.
