This inn was so nice, we stayed an extra night. Our first room had an issue with the TV so they moved us to an even bigger and nicer room with no questions asked. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Everyone we met there was excellent- the housekeeping and the grounds crew etc, just excellent. We stayed in two different rooms and both were very nice. Checked in for the weekend for a wedding I was attending. We noticed there was a bug in the bed not long after check in. We pulled back the covers and found several more . We asked the front desk to please come to our room so we could show them the bugs. The front desk attendant said she didn't believe they were bed bugs . And said they could change our linen if we wanted. We were not willing to risk staying in the room And there was no other room available , so we checked out . It took almost a week for the 1842 Inn to refund our money. Would not stay again, it is old and a little run down and obviously is not being maintained or cleaned properly . read more

It's August 2023, my first time staying at the 1842 Inn. I loved it. Staying at the 1842 Inn is much more personal than a typical hotel. The front desk and dining area staff were very polite and attentive. The check-in process was simple, but you should try to arrive before 11 pm. After you check-in, make sure to try their signature beverage, "mint julep" from the bar. My room was simple and clean. The bathroom had a nice shower with glass doors; I prefer the doors over shower curtains. They stocked the bathroom with excellent quality Beekman 1802 soap products. The A/C worked very well, which is essential for hot summers. My room had a wall A/C unit with easy temperature control. It is the same style A/C that you may find at motels. It was a little noisy at night but didn't keep me up. The bed and sheets were very comfortable. The TV was smallish but easy to see from the bed. Make sure to try the bathrobes in the closet. The WiFi was fine. You can find the password printed on the room's telephone. My room had plenty of wall outlets for your electronics. They were easy to access, but some were not very close to a table. The courtyard was very nice. There were several tables with umbrellas. The gardening around the courtyard looks beautiful and well maintained. Breakfast: When we arrived at our room, a breakfast order form was on our bed pillow. We selected our breakfast options and the time and location (in-room, courtyard, or parlor) for breakfast. Hang the order form on the outside of your door before you retire for the evening. Neighborhood: After breakfast, we walked around the neighborhood for about an hour. There are many beautiful old southern homes and some nice parks. The area is a little hilly, so wear comfortable shoes. Directions: The inn is easy to find and is only a mile from I-75. Parking: The first time you visit the Inn, the parking arrangements may not be apparent, especially at night. We arrived around 11 pm, so it was dark. There is a parking lot on the left about 100 yards past the main building. The 1842 Inn is very nice by my modest standards. It is not as fancy as the website suggests, but it's comfortable, and I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

We spent our wedding night there and it was fabulous. Check-in was quick and followed by a bottle of wine & glasses delivered to our spacious "Cotton Broker", historic room. After we freshened-up, we went down to sit on the front porch rockers with our wine and were treated with an array of hors d'oeuvres delivered to us over the next 30 minutes! We selected our breakfast menu the night before and the next AM, the cooks and servers were very efficient and friendly. The property and staff were all fabulous and we'll absolutely stay again. Stayed overnight at this charming, well serviced Inn that provides a sense of history in old Macon So accommodating. Excellent breakfast and enjoyed a night cap in the living room before bed after an excellent dinner at Dovetail. The attention to detail, the feeling of being welcomed and the added touches were greatly appreciated. The holiday decor only added to a festive overnight Our only suggestion is to change the bedding linens to a duvet with better pillows. Our remote for TV wasn't working even though they tried to correct it ...turned out to to be a blessing without the "chatter". My family stayed overnight at the 1842 Inn on our way up from Orlando to Alabama. We stayed in the Jefferson Davis room with 2 queen beds. Overall, we would not book again as we believe the BNB is very over-priced for what it offers and disappointed in several areas. We had high expectations given the classy website, historical building and locale, as well as the lure of their "famous" southern breakfast. Plus, they are one of the few BNBs that are dog friendly and we had our 5 month old pup with us for the trip, so that was a must. On arrival the house is impressive, especially the front entry with the soaring columns and wrap around veranda. The inside is classy and well decorated with 19th century regalia, certainly giving the feeling of a old historical home from the Deep South in the civil war era. Gloria, who greeted us on arrival, was very nice and spent a lot of time getting us settled in at 8:45pm. That's the highlight of our stay. On the way to a separate guest house, which I suspect may have been pre-emancipation "staff" living quarters, we passed a wall with washed up celebrities from the 1970s or 1980s who allegedly stayed there. It looked kind of staged. Few were taken on the grounds. If you're staying at the Inn make sure you arrive before 8pm, because everything and I mean EVERYTHING, is closed by 9pm for dinner. You will have essentially one option, a shady dirty Subway operated by what looks to be parolees and more flies than patrons. But no worries, there's an emergency room right across the street! This was a Thursday night. Nowhere on the 1842 website do they warn you about this. After returning to our hotel with a suspect foot-long Dirty Sanchez, we attempted to settle down for the night. The air conditioning to the room is provided by a wall unit positioned right next to the bed blowing loud frigid air directly on the poor soul sleeping on that side. The floor was sticky, we're hoping due to a thick floor wax on the wood floors. The bathroom had a sink that was with poorly draining. The tile was cracked, there was a stain in the ceiling from a recent leak, and the wallpaper was peeling. There was an annoying curtain rod that would constantly come loose from the door and stop you from closing the door without 2 people, one to hold it aside. The mattresses are comically tall, so tall I had to stack all their decorative pillows on the floor so my 5 year old daughter wouldn't crack her skull if she fell off the unfamiliar bed. Lastly, we were looking forward to the self-described "famous" 1842 southern breakfast. We selected to dine outdoors at a nice seating area between the main house and the living quarters with our room. Big mistake. As soon as the food was delivered we were swarmed by aggressive flies that were so numerous we could hardly eat our food. We literally had to use one hand to protect our food and bat away flies and the other for utensils. It was like starring in Lord of the Flies. I immediately thought about the garbage trucks I heard in the morning outside my window and how there must be trash cans stored nearby. The food? It's was so bland and tasteless I thought I got a flash case of COVID. In the pandemic of 1842. You have to be 90 years old with deceased taste buds to appreciate such mediocre fare. The coffee tasted like a mouthful of beach sand. In fact, I've tasted better sand. Denny's is 5 stars in comparison. Lastly, on checkout we noticed that all the Inn's staff, from the grounds guy to the cook to the wait staff, we're African American. And the front desk staff and concierge? Caucasian. We couldn't help but feel like we were reliving the plantation days in this house which is from that era. I'm mixed Asian and Caucasian with a Caucasian wife and it made me uncomfortable. Our conclusion is this is essentially a tourist trap preying on passers by between Atlanta and Florida with precious few quality hotels in between. The charm is a veneer, the rooms overpriced and the stay anything but comfortable. Keep driving! read more

I'm really surprised at all the great reviews. On the pro side, the inn is very historic- pre Civil War - and has been totally updated for modern day comfort. The gardens, outdoor porches and sitting areas are lovely. That said, the overall experience was simply ok. Upon arrival we were offered a complimentary bottle of water. The bottle was the smallest imaginable - maybe 3 gulps. Really? At the same time, we were informed we would be served a complimentary hors d'oeuvres tray and could purchase alcoholic beverages. No arrival glass of wine? Nope. The breakfast was pitiful. We had to complete an order form the night before. The choices were few and the food the next morning was mediocre at best. Yes, famous people have stayed there. We won't be back. read more

The columned facade is imposing yet inviting, and the period decorations inside creative a marvelous atmosphere of conviviality and comfort. The numerous parlors provide the perfect spaces for either social interaction or quiet contemplation, and all are decorated to create a strong sense of livable, engaging pleasure. It is a supreme treat to sit in the parlor on a rich leather loveseat, either chatting with fellow guests or enjoying the Inn's signature Mint Julep. For all of the plush and homey charm of the parlors, one would be remiss in spending too much time in one's room, but the various bedrooms at the 1842 Inn are a treat in and of themselves. Each is uniquely decorated and appointed and provides all of the amenities of a standard hotel room but with greater beauty and individuality. Beds are large and comfortable, linens are fresh and clean, and the bathrooms are scrubbed and sparking, with plenty of hot water. The rooms are also very quiet and can become an oasis of solitude, if so desired. Breakfast was absolutely delicious, and there were many options available. I almost wish that the 1842 Inn had its own restaurant, so that we could eat in more often! For all of the beauty of its objects, however, it is the people who make the 1842 so special. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with a warm smile and a helping hand, and all of the staff were eager to please, with suggestions for places to dine or to offer a fresh cup of coffee. I would especially like to highlight Gloria (front desk), Joanne, Gloria (breakfast), EJ, and George, who were a delight in every way. I had a very short stay at the 1842 Inn recently. I literally got there at 10 p.m. and had to leave the next morning at 8 a.m. So, this wasn't your traditional B&B stop for me. Overall, I was impressed with the 1842 Inn and probably would have had rated it as 5 Stars, except for a couple of minor irritations. Positive - The room was fantastic. I walked into a wonderful room with a huge 4 poster bed, a sitting area, and great antiques. The bathroom was very nice and clean, and had it's own switch to turn on heat if it was cool in the morning. The people at the 1842 Inn were incredibly polite and service oriented. I think they typified the manners you see all over the South. Despite the fact I was only there for about 10 hours, I got the feeling I could have asked for anything and they would have done their best to accommodate my request. The breakfast was really very good. I had a souffle, coffee and orange juice in the courtyard and it was very tasty. It was a cool morning for June in Macon, which made the whole thing pleasant. Areas to Improve - I wish the room I stayed in had an individual temperature control. I was thankful it was a cool summer night in Macon, which are unusual, or I think I would have been miserable. I had the overhead fan going and was still sightly on the warm side. This is an old building, obviously being built in the 1800s, so you did hear every sound. It was easy to hear conversations in the hallway, people getting into the shower, water running, etc. It didn't bother me as I tend to stay up late anyway. But, I could see it bothering other people who were trying to go to sleep at 10 p.m. I had a wake-up call for 7 a..m. and I didn't actually get that call until 7:15. I was already awake, but if I would have been in a rush, it would have been more irritating. I wish they would have had another newspaper choice besides the local Macon newspaper. Even a USA Today would have been great to read over breakfast. And, this is a strange one, but the water didn't taste good. I noticed it when I brushed my teeth and it really tasted bad. They had offered me water when I checked in, but I didn't accept and I wish that I had accepted the invitation. Summary Despite a few minor irritations, my overall experience at the 1842 Inn was very positive and I would recommend it to a couple enjoying a weekend away or who wasn't in a rush to get out the door in the morning. I wish I would have had time to sit out on the big front porch or sit in their parlor. The decor was very nice throughout the building and the wonderful people were really a highlight. read more

We were traveling to visit family in middle Georgia and needed a place to crash - but we wanted a one of a kind place with a story, and that would be something to talk about. So checked out Yelp! And based on ratings 1842 Inn came up! We called around 6pm on a Saturday afternoon and Gloria answered and said there was 1 room left! It was $169 plus tax! Whoo wee. We ended up going drinking / eating and didnt even check in until 10:30pm (I know how rude!) -- Gloria was there with two bottles of water waiting for us. Our room was cool on that hot day and we crashed in the comfy bed. Good old school water pressure (love good water pressure) -- woke up to have our breakfast. We had chosen to have breakfast in the parlor and it was just me and my man. It was so cute! Fresh coffee, juice right in the center of the room with a free newspaper. Ahh. The olden days! The breakfast food was just okay, but still a great experience. The staff was pleasant and southern (well we are in the south!) and smiling. They wanted to make sure our stay was good. It was. Since my husband and I travel frequently on I-75, we previously always stopped at 1842 Inn to help limit the long drive on at least one leg of a trip. We've been staying here for at least a decade and have been guests at least 7 or 8 times. We have always stayed in the same suite in the main house. We loved it on our first visit, so always requested the same room. There were reservations issues from the start, this time (always blamed on a new software system). Good thing I followed up about two weeks before our trip, because our reservations had disappeared. We did request our same room and was told it was available. This time, we got to the Inn very late (almost 11 PM). By the time we unpacked and were ready to get a great night's sleep, it was too late to change rooms (plus they were full, anyway). The mattress in this same room we've always stayed was beyond horrible: it should have been thrown away at least a year ago. We are both slim adults. My husband is a heavy sleeper, but I'm not. I got no sleep that night, as I kept rolling down into the center of the mattress (which felt like it was touching the floor). Even my husband (who can usually sleep through, and on, anything) was having trouble sleeping. Since I was up hours before necessary, I decided to go ahead and wash my hair. Mistake. The shower curtain liner's magnets were no long working, so once my hair was soaked, I couldn't keep the shower curtain liner from constantly wrapping itself about me. Gross. The next morning when we mentioned all this, the staff didn't seem overly concerned or responsive. We did receive a whopping $30 off the cost of the room, along with the comment the "owners used to have the staff sleep here once a year to locate issues such as this." Perhaps the owners should reinstate this practice. Even the breakfast the next morning wasn't as stellar as I remembered (or maybe it was all the coffee I had to consume to prepare for another 7 hours on the road). Extremely disappointed, especially when we've had such positive experiences previously. Things have gone downhill in the last 18 - 24 months. We will never stay here again. read more

My first B&B Stay! I loved this place. I still don't know that I'm necessarily the B&B type but I really liked this place. Plenty of charm complete with a mint julep on the porch. We stayed in the Magnolia and it was great. Grand bed, small loveseat, table, etc. We had breakfast one day downstairs and one in our room. Both were excellent with everything we needed. Every time we came or went the staff were attentive and asked if we needed anything and offered recommendations of places to eat and things to do. We even discussed the wall of fame with photos of celebs who had stayed there and learned some stories of why some were in town. I couldn't have asked for a better experience at my first B&B stay. read more

We were traveling on fall break and had to make an unplanned overnight stay in Macon. So, I had about 30 minutes planning time to find somewhere to stay. Reading reviews on Yelp was a great help. I found the reviews for the 1842 Inn and called thinking that they would never be able to accommodate my family of three kids (ages 9,7, and 4), husband, myself, and handicapped mother. Not only did they accommodate, the staff went above and beyond. Gloria brought my kids warm chocolate chip cookies when we checked in. One review said the water tasted funny, but it's just Southern hard lime water and what I am used too. The breakfast the next day was great. Plenty for us all to eat. They even remade the French Toast when my kids would not eat the fancy strawberry stuffed French Toast that was originally brought out and brought out plain French Toast. I cannot recommend the Bed and Breakfast 1842 Inn in Macon enough, plus the bed slept awesome. read more

Another great Macon find..lives up to the press you read about it. From the well done rooms to the very helpful and pleasant staff we could have asked for a single thing to change. Be sure you treat yourself to breakfast on the patio - the gardenias and magnolias were in bloom and were so fragrant. We wanted a nice place to stay not too far outside of Atlanta and found the 1842 Inn in Macon. Macon's a bit run down, but the Inn is a good stopover if you're on your way elsewhere and want a comfortable, classy place to stay that is well maintained and staffed by some really nice people. We had a room in the cottage and our advice is to not take the room with the King Bed in it. The mattress is a bit tired and one would think an elephant had been sleeping in it as it sagged in the middle. Other than that, everything was top shelf. The breakfast was just OK, but it was a noble effort. Don't get me wrong - like with 1842 Inn and would definitely stay there again when passing through this part of the county. We stayed one night and it broke up our trip nicely. Would highly recommend this as a stopover stay. There's WIFI in the room and that was a plus that I didn't expect. read more

My husband and I recently kicked off our honeymoon with 2 night stay here before heading to our cruise ship. The service we received was outstanding.
