I got a tip on River Road Flea Market from an acquaintance, who became an acquaintance because I was asking about where to get furniture. Of all the stores and spots she recommended, this was my favorite and definitely the best. It was a little difficult to find because their address online says the city's name is Jefferson and my GPS only recognizes Jefferson as a parish. Now I know it's in New Orleans city, and not all the far away at all. It's located literally right by the river, separated by a grassy bank and the levee. The building is HUGE. It's like a warehouse divided into little rooms, all of which are decorated with amazing antiques and thrifty finds for a fairly reasonable price (about 125 for a desk-sized table, 150 for a wardrobe or dresser). It's not the cheapest spot, but the quality of the merchandise makes up for it. They get most of their merchandise from estate sales, apparently, and the eclectic collection certainly reflects that. Several of the rooms are themed: jewelry, records, children's furniture and toys (there was an amazing vintage rocking chair that I would buy just to anticipate having children... except I'm not), books, etc. Outside in a small gated area, they sell specialty Mexican pottery, most of which is large and would be appropriate for a yard, and wrought iron benches and trellises. I purchased a vintage bracelet for $5, and I can't wait to go back and actually purchase furniture, once I'm moved in! Just don't beat me to it; there's a table and a bedframe that I've already got my eye on...

Some spots are overloaded with goods for sale. There were a few good things. Mainly an air of despair hung over this entire area. There seemed to be a few vendors that were permanent. Plants, military gear, Confederate paraphernalia was all abundant. There was some food for sale. I did not end up getting anything and I'm not sure I will be back. It's a one stop shop for your taste buds to travel Latin America- no passport or cash needed. They had food vendors from Mexico all the way to the Dominican Republic. We tried shakes from Honduras- we picked strawberry and guyabano. Both flavors were delicious and cooled us down. Next we got carne asada arepas from Colombia, the meat was seasoned so well and it was oozing with cheese. We played it safe and got tacos from the Mexican spot. They were delicious! The tortillas were freshly pressed and the meat was loaded. They also give you a red salsa and green. I wish we would've left room for dessert because there were some good looking dessert options. I will definitely be back! If you do stop by, bring your appetite and athleisure wear (it's hot and you will leave with a full belly).

The food court offered mostly Latin/South American options. I really wanted some french fries but could not find any. For a nice Saturday afternoon, I wanted to see more of the vendors open for business. I do like the fixed structure of the flea market versus the typical mobile structure you usually see.

There is a lot of stuff to go thru. Some is on the new side, some is ancient. Gail was working when I came in and she is a talker. She was so friendly and happy to tell you anything you want to know. She even told me where I should go for lunch, and she was absolutely correct in her suggestion. They have everything here from kitchen appliances to books to cement sculptures, moving vans to rent, original artwork, just a bit of everything. Her stories were so funny, I wish I could have spent more time there just talking to her. I would suggest stopping by if you are in the area. It is really a thing to experience.
