They were uniformly well-trained, pleasant, and able to meet all my needs in full. Among the responsibilities I had them engage in was hygiene, bathing, assistance with ambulation, dressing, and rising and lowering from a chair. These marvelous staff members were also able to engage in meal preparation, light house work, and accompanying me to Doctor appointments. Then we call to complain, and they state that we called to cancel service, which is not true. - They sent a young man to help us, and he would not touch my father. How do you care for an elderly person without touching them? He said he was trained by "watching a video" but didn't have any hands-on training. He was there for night care, and left earlier than he was supposed to without telling anyone. We also discovered he may have taken items from the house, and was snooping around in the garage (the security latch was not on when we awoke in the morning). Completely unacceptable!

Once Mom was able to return home we knew she would need assistance during the day while we were away. Lauren was mentioned during a support group for a rare disease my Mother has. She was very thorough, communicative and listened to what my Mother needed. It took a reasonable amount of time to find the right caregivers that meshed well with Mom. But, that was expected, as new people enter one another's lives it takes time to find the right fit. Lauren's team literally saved her life. Part of Mom's neurodegenerative disease impacts her ability to chew, and swallow. While taking her morning vitamins one day, Mom began choking and the visiting angel with her immediately knew what to do. Had the caregiver not been with Mom that day she wouldn't be us. Unfortunately because the disease continued to progress we eventually had to find a suitable home to provide her with 24 hour assistance. Had Mom's disease not progressed, we would not have stopped working with Lauren and her Visiting Angels team. Lastly, I believe SD Visiting Angels was previously owned and operated by someone else, prior to Lauren taking ownership. I cannot speak to the caliber of the earlier company, however, Lauren is a knowledgeable, genuine and caring person. There are others, however, who are horrible and the management of this company sides with them instead of the patient. If you are thinking about hiring this company for your loved one, I implore you to first set up a hidden camera so that you can ensure you get the good employees and not the bad. A friend of mine had this company hired by their out of town family. Some of the workers were caring and attentive. Others fell asleep on the couch regularly, missed medical appointments often, and did things that actually were examples of elder abuse on the San Diego Adult Protective Services website. And the good employees complained to the company about the bad employees, giving them direct examples of their egregious actions putting their patient at risk, yet it was the good employees who were disciplined, not the bad ones. As mentioned, this one worker was found to be sleeping a dozen times when they should have been caring for the patient. The house was always a complete mess when the bad employee was around. Not just in disarray, but spilled food stuck to the countertops, dishes pilled up in the sink, dirt all over the carpet, feces all over the bathroom, and other things that one would think it was a neglect case, not a hired company there for care. This would all be left for the next good employee that came along who would spend their entire shift trying to get things cleaned and back in order. And again, when it was reported to the company, the company protected the bad employees, not backed the good ones. Additionally, this company and their employees are not allowed to administer medicine to any patient, yet there was one employee that did not care. She was injecting a medicine into my friend without anyone's knowledge, including the family. Now, at a normal company that would be enough to get you fired when it was reported by a coworker... not Safe Harbor. Instead, they gave her more hours. During those hours she also altered the other medicine that my friend was supposed to be taking, even though she was told directly that altering it in any way changed the efficacy. Again, the company felt that was not important enough to reprimand the employee. Instead, the company threatened those of us who loved that patient and told us we would be charged with trespassing if we tried to see them. And we were told directly that they would not even allow our friend to call us on the phone. This was a directive from the management of this company. And this directive was in direct violation of laws, which the Adult Protective Services was supposed to enforce. They did not and they do not. APS finally started looking at the case after our friend has passed away. So, do not think anyone will help to protect your loved one. You must do that on your own. Our friend's last days were lonely. We were told by her medical team that while at the hospital she asked for us repeatedly, but because of this company, we were not allowed to visit her. We were not allowed to comfort her. So, watch your loved one with this company. If you get the bad employees, you need to take steps to change the situation because Safe Harbor's management will not.
