I went to First Bank to get a cashier's check, and the clerk misspelled "services" twice. The third time, I trusted she had finally gotten it right and was doing her job properly. Nope. I delivered the check, only for the recipient to point out it was still misspelled. I went back to the bank to get it canceled and reissued, but the manager told me it was my responsibility to check. I explained that their employee had filled it out three times, and I reasonably assumed it was correct by the last attempt. It's not my fault they have incompetent employees. read more

I started banking at this bank over 20 years ago. During periods of that time I banked with many others, and now today only hold a first bank account. While I never had very much money, they always were there for me. I have no worries about fraud or fees with FirstBank. I once had fraud take necessary funds from me, and they got me the money I needed while they figured it out. I toured this location as a Boy Scout. I started my first business account at a nearby branch. In Fort Collins they used to print me single checks in college because I refused to get a check book. They thankfully denied my irresponsible loan requests in my 20's. If only other banks had been so kind. I went through a coin collecting phase and picked up 100$ in quarters regularly. When they came out with their new card graphic, I said I liked the old one, and they replaced mine with the old one. To me, a Bank is a Bank is a Bank. Sure, there are helpful services, like drive-through banking and on-site, external ATMs for quick transactions. This FirstBank has a drive-through ATM on-site. Unfortunately, the aforementioned machine is faulty, and when it malfunctions and keeps your Debit Card stuck inside it, there's nothing you can do about it. Why? Because FirstBank says, and I quote: "That machine belongs to a Third Party. We don't own or Service it." Excuse me? Credit Unions are looking better and better. BellCo is just across the street. YOU are a Bank. YOU have, ON YOUR PROPERTY, and ATM that has YOUR BANK NAME on it. But you don't OWN IT? And you cannot provide service on it when it malfunctions? Are you KIDDING ME? And don't even get me started on the multiple, yes, MULTIPLE times our identities have been compromised due to "Skimming" devices on those very ATM machines. ON BANK PROPERTY. Twice in one year, a letter arrived in the mail stating that my identity and personal information "May have been compromised" due to their lack of competence, safety and security. Now come to find out that they don't even OWN the offending FirstBank ATMs? Like I said, you've gotta be kidding me. read more

Every day, I pass a giant sign in 1stBank's window that says, "Free Checking is Still Free"...Every month, I'm assessed a $5 fee for not setting up my bills with them (most of my bills charge me $10 monthly if I setup through the bank). Ok, fine, I could still maaaaaaybe find a way to make that work and not get charged $5 a month, so we'll let that slide. However, I received a $10 "Annual Fee" on my checking account today. Their marketing team really needs to reconsider throwing around the word "Free", because they've nickle-and-dimed me more than anyone I've ever banked with. Also, I setup my cell phone payment through my provider as a monthly payment. This worked, up until last month when 1stBank failed to process the payment and my phone was shut off for no apparent reason. I'm a working professional and use that phone to contact my boss...doesn't look too good when it's mysteriously shut off and no one can reach me. I had to pay an additional fee through the cell phone provider to get it turned on in a hurry. 1stBank has failed to respond to the two inquiries I've made regarding this. Some customer service. Minor point, but if you're open until 12 PM on a Saturday, don't take your donuts to the back at 11:45 AM when customers are still in the lobby and then tell people, "They're all gone, sorry!" Worst service at this location. Just sat 15 minutes in the drive through with no line. Pre filled business deposit containing 5 checks(simple transaction). I called in to see if there was a problem and the clerk jumped on the video screen for like 2 seconds saying "there ya go" and sent my slip out never giving me a chance to inquire. I received the deposit slip for the car that pulled up to the next window about 4 minutes after I arrived. They then sent my slip out to the other car. I called again to see another face on the screen clueless as to what the problem it. We have our personal and business accounts with 1st Bank and go to locations all over Denver with no issues. I'll be avoiding this location like the plague even though it's closest to our business office. read more

When I moved to Denver, my friends warned me not to have anything to do with 1st Bank....and I should have listened. I got a promotion in the mail promising a gift for opening an account. Beware of any business that have to entice you with nice gifts! Nothing about opening the account was smooth, and I was given conflicting information from everyone I talked to on the phone. They would not give me the type of account that I wanted and insisted on bundling checking, savings, a debit card, and credit card. Whoa, wait a minute! I just wanted a free checking account. Nope, the first representative told me, they don't have them "as a convenience to [their] customers." Convenience!?!? That was just the beginning of my woes with this bank--lost paperwork, mysterious changes to my account, no word on my gift--and it's only been a month. Oh, and the free checking is NOT free. They charge you for using/not using almost every single feature of the account. They even charge you for writing CHECKS from your CHECKING account! Go across the street to Westerra Credit Union where they will always treat you with respect and not nickel and dime you. read more

Have had my account with them for 10 years, anytime anything has ever gone wrong they have gone out of their way to fix it. We lived in Germany for four of those 10 years, and while overseas, we never paid fees on ATMs or transactions. They kept up communication despite the fact that we were in a different country. Most banks make you pay fees for traveling and using your card. The only fee ever pay is a five dollar bill pay fee, and I only pay it if I don't pay 3 of my bills through the bill pay I set up. They have caught fraudulent charges on our account and contacted us within an hour of it happening. (Card numbers were stolen from an online store once and mass theft of info the second time) First bank contacted me, stopped the charges and reissued me a new card. Sure credit unions are great, but they have their issues too and quite frankly, most of these reviews are either petty complaints or from people who don't understand how banking works. I would go to no other bank. I only give 4 stars because I want to give them Room to improve. When shopping for a bank account, don't rely on angry people on yelp. Read other reviews from bankers, and people in the industry. Look at their policies and procedures, list of fees etc things that matter. Don't base that decision on a free toaster. Yes customer service is important but if you're an idiot who refuses to try and understand or just an ass hole, then you deserve what service you get. read more

I do not agree with the two previous comments. We have been customers of 1st Bank since 1983, when we moved to the Denver area and had a business account for 13 years plus and our personal account from 1987 to current - even kept the account after moving to Arizona. We have nothing but praise for 1st Bank. They have always been so helpful, professional and friendly. We tell everyone to change to 1st Bank because of their great service to us. This first bank the one in Belmar (has no Facebook page, they are a training location witch makes since) STAY AWAY! THEY ARE NOTHING BUT UN HELPFUL AND HORRIBLE. I have banked with first bank for about 4 or 5 years years and over the last 6 months this has been my home bank location. I deposited CASH and they still charged me fees the next day claiming the money wasn't REALLY THERE. but how can you transfer money to another account if it's not really there and how is it that I'm negative but only negative by the nsf fees. It is not right and the manager doesn't know her stuff either. Not to mention if you show up 5 to 10 minutes before closing on a Friday (This has happened 3 times in a month) night they will not let you deposit forcing you to go to an atm. This has cost me and my company hardship. Its only taken one major mistake with service and fees but it's one that will lose my business because this is not my fault. When I make mistakes with my account I accept it. SO STAY AWAY FROM BELMAR FIRST BANK. IT'S THE WORST. AND HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I will be leaving the bank because of it. read more

I was under the impression that FirstBank supported small and local businesses, so I opened up my business checking account with them. Several months later, I wanted to see what kind of loan I might qualify for, and also I needed a business credit card. I called the main number, they transferred me to this Lakewood location to speak with someone directly. Apparently she was not available, so I left my name and phone number with someone else for a call back. The woman never called me back. I called again the following week, and this time I was sent to her voice mail. I left a message with my name and number. She never called me back. So the following week I decided to drop in, without an appointment. I ended up speaking with a nice kid named Nate, who seemed helpful at first - but it's been a month and all he's done is given me the run-around. I emailed for a status update three weeks ago. No reply. I just emailed him again - though I certainly do not plan on getting a loan through them, and I will probably move my checking account elsewhere. Thanks fer nuthin', LastBank. read more
