I had a home improvement loan from First Security Bank of Washington that I paid off on-line 2+ years early. Despite paying off the loan in full on-line, I was charged an additional 0.02 cents in interest and was never notified of this additional fee. They reported me to the credit bureaus and indicated that I was 120 days late on my payments. My credit score dropped more than 80 points! They later indicated my account was paid in full (without me making any additional payments) and will not take the late payment reports off from my credit reports. read more

Their online system is far more difficult to use than any other loan servicer I have used (I have worked with at least 10 providers over the years for mortgage refinance and student loans, etc) making it more difficult than it should be to get any information when you want it. They don't generate online statements somehow for your accounts and have a 300 dollar plus charge for re-financing and ending the loan with them as a last "screw you" on your way out the door. There are far providers out there, avoid this one. read more

1st security bank is disgusting. I have a mortgage loan with them, and I set automatic payment. However, I can only put a specific amount to pay, cannot choose to pay the full monthly due. At next year, the mortgage monthly assessment has increased, then they said I didn't pay mortgage in time!!! And they charged me late fee of $130, and this affected my credit score!!!!! 1st security bank's system is so stupid, no one should have a mortgage with them. read more

This bank is a joke. Over the past few months I have made online purchases and First Security in its infinite wisdom decided it was a fraud. It happens unbeknownst to me and then when I try to make a local purchase at a store or gas station, the card is declined. To make matters worse, they are only available during normal business hours so there's nothing I can do until the bank opens. This has happened to me 6 or 7 times. The most recent happened A WEEK AGO and my card is still getting declined even though I have several thousand dollars in the bank. I'm migrating to a new account at BECU and they do it the right way: if there is a purchase over a limit YOU set, they don't decline it, they email you and tell you that if it's fraud to log in to the account and report it. THIS is customer service. First Security sucks. read more

I wish I could give fewer than 1 star. I have never once been late on my loan payment and these guys are reporting to all agencies that my account is closed and delinquent which is false and a violation of the FCRA. Despite that fact, their credit lead was rude and unwilling to update their reporting even though he acknowledged I had never been late and my account is still open and being paid as agreed. There are much better institutions with much better rates and reporting practices. Avoid them at all costs. read more

Don't be fooled by the local presence, this is your typical smoke and mirrors, nickel and dime you every step of the way, double talking, non-accountable, lying mainstream bank. It doesn't even matter that I know the loan officer personally, they still have to jerk me around and at the end of the day if you ask for help or for an explanation they'll just blow more smoke your way and pretend they're on your side while at the same time they don't help you in anyway and instead finds excuses for why they can't do what's right or follow the rules they themselves lay out for you. Before I begin, let me just say that, I attempted several times to reach a department manager to help me and received no response. I am assisting someone who suffered a stroke to pay her loan. She doesn't have a checking account, so I am using mine... Yes I am paying the loan off for her. I work in finance and know a few things. I've called a few times and requested an ACH authorization form. They said they didn't have digital forms, but would mail one. This was finally mailed after the third time. I filled it out and sent it back. The bank does not know where it is, so my bank info is floating around somewhere... I asked for them to send it again and I will send send it certified so I know they got it. Then, they said they would mail a digital one... I gave them my email address. I never received the form. Speaking to the woman on the phone (Jhade.miller@fsbwa.com) she informed me that she emailed it several times. I told her that I already set auto pay with my bank because of thier mistake and I didn't want to double pay. I went on to say that they should be calling before a bill is a month past due and she raised her voice to me saying that they provided the money to pay for a service that I am using and I had to pay it back! Please remember that this woman has a stoke, has a hard time forming scetences and I'm paying this for her. This isn't my bill. She then tells me that they would never be able to call people like that because they are "a national company! National! And there are several thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of loans with then!", so calling customers is not in thier power. She went on about the proof she had that the emails were sent to me 6 times from her and I asked her to send it to me from her, because I have proof they were not. She told me that she didn't have to prove anything to me. This is why I've been trying to get ahold of a department manager, but since I've submitted a request for this information, I've received no response. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK. THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE AND SKETCHY. THIS IS NOT JUST MY OPINION, I SEE THIS IN MANY OTHER REVIEWS. read more

1st security made a mistake on my account that was reported to the credit bureau and I have spent the last 2 weeks ironing this out with them. OVERALL - they were able to correct the mistake and get me exactly what I needed. I was extremely grateful to have been connected to Larry E. and Kathrine S. Both of them were phenomenal - professional, helpful, and caring. I would give both of them 10 stars if I could! HOWEVER, I was connected to Kathy V. before I got to Kathrine S. ... And Kathy V. was a disaster! Rude, condescending, and could not have cared less about my situation (which was the banks fault, not mine). I spent a total of 60seconds on the phone with Kathy V. trying to explain to her what the credit bureaus were asking for. She kept cutting me off and aggressively saying "she has done everything she can do." Ultimately, I was unable to get a word in edge wise - and then she HUNG UP ON ME! Kathrine S. Saved the day and was able to provide me with the letter that the bureaus needed quick and fast. She is a true professional and 1st Security is lucky to have her! If I could do no stars I would! This company is beyond the hardest and worst company ever to deal with! We were suckered in with their low finance rate! Do not DocuSign anything! Print it out and read before signing! If this is not an option do no sign!! They put a 2nd mortgage on our house for a 18,000.00 paint job! We did not even find this out until we went to REFINANCE our house! Yes they will do a subordination but it will cost you $200.00 a packet that they REQUIRE! What ever you do DO NOT forget a COVER SHEET and a mailing label! This process will take up to about an extra few days to weeks for them to complete before they will take it off so your bank can refinance your mortgage! It is beyond frustrating!! And make sure that you check on the credibility of the company you are dealing with! They are not even BBB accredited! My next review will be a complaint with the BBB! read more

My Wife and I have done numerous House loans over the years including construction loans where the Bank loans additional money based on the renovated cost of the house. Most banks we dealt with are either painful or hopefully neutral in the pain dept. The construction loan is a super painful process from start to finish. Except with 1st Security Bank. I am now 8 months into this process of renovating two houses on my new property. My wife and I are completely astounded at how on top of things this bank is. Everyone responds and communicates instantly. They check up on you if they haven't heard anything recently. From the loan officer to the draw department, we have received 5 Star service. I had no idea that a bank could even be like this. It is just SO different than any other bank we can't get our heads around it. They completely understand that If my wife and I succeed, then so does the bank. I cannot recommend enough. The best banking experience we have ever seen by light years. read more

Just paid off my loan from 1st Security Bank and will never borrow from them again. Paying off principal on the loan with extra payments is made nearly impossible. They require the extra electronic payment to be marked as "principal only" or they count it toward your next monthly payment. My bank's bill pay doesn't have this option and they didn't offer it on their own website as well while I was trying to make the payments. The only option is to drive into a branch and none were convenient. I just got the loan paid off only to have to pay an amount greater then was was on the agreement to have the lien lifted from my house. Called in and was told that they were not bound by the amount spelled out on the paperwork and they refused to honor that amount. Rapacious company in my experience. Spend a bit more time and find a company to borrow from that works with you while you pay them back. read more

We bank at 1st Security for local convenience since we are not year round residents. Thus we depend on the mobile website. The staff at the branches are wonderful and helpful. The mobile banking is the worst I have ever experienced. The website has no NO useful search engine. It does not have FAQs. It will not allow an account holder to access transaction information more than 6 months old. It does not have a useful way to categorize checks written without signing an onerous set of terms and conditions and even then it is a poor tool. It is either take what the bank offers in the way of support or tough luck. Thus, customers who live in different time zones or who rely on mobile banking are SOL when it comes to service. We will find another bank, I would not recommend 1st Security if one wishes to do anything besides deposit and withdraw in person. read more

The worst experience I have ever had in any customer service situation. I have purchased 2 homes and refi 3 times with other banks so I am familiar with the process. I never complain about poor customer service but I had to warn and save others from this company. I refi my home and started working with a friend of mine who was an employee at 1st Security. After my friend left the company I was handed off to the "VP". It all went downhill from there. It took almost 3 months for the refi. He waited for the last minute to inform me of "late fees" and charged me ridiculous amounts. His communication was horrible, he did not walk me through my refi after it was done. He would lose emails that were time sensitive. He wasted so much time that created more fees. I had to involve my friend to get answers from him. His processing manager Penny was more informative and more professional. Avoid avoid avoid this co at all costs. read more

I can't speak for there banking, but i would advise not to do a mortgage loan through them. Before my very first payment they had already sold my loan to another company. With my due date coming up the new company doesn't have any of my information, even when i give them the new loan number in addition they have horrible reviews online about there customer service, i signed up thinking i would be dealing with 1st security, And now 1st security won't accept my first payment because the account is sold and closed. Now i'm worried i'm going to get a late fee for my first payment because nobody will accept it. read more

This "bank" has some shady business practices. I used them for a loan for roofing and siding on our home, as recommended by DaBella, the contractor. They have called and told me that my first payment is past due. I didn't know I even had a payment due since they've never sent me a single statement. All I've received is a "welcome letter" that does not have my full balance I owe them and is not clear that I will not be receiving a statement. I've never had a bank not send me a statement for any accounts I have with them, including loans. This is not my first loan. I believe that this practice is predatory and is done to collect higher fees. I cannot even see the total amount owed unless I can log into their website. Aren't they supposed to supply that information? Also it takes at least 1 day to get their website to allow you to have an account so even if you CAN get there, you can't see anything for at least 24 hours. Honestly, I've never had a bank do business like this. I feel like I have been taken advantage of and this bank is not trustworthy. They will not have my business moving forward as soon as these loans are paid off I am done with them. They should not be in business at all treating their customers like this. read more

BEWARE: This bank filed a lien on our home without providing us with a copy when we took out a loan for a heater. Mind you, we paid monthly and was on time and never late; this bank then wants us to pay to remove the lien they put on in the first place. I have never had any loan for an appliance put a lien on our home unless the loan was not paid, especially without receiving a copy of the lien in the first place. We bought some windows through Renewal by Anderson and this is the bank they used. The accounting system/personnel through this bank is very substandard. I just received another call from them saying my payment was late, but because I know they are inadequate I checked my bank and sure enough my check had cleared and when I called them back they made it sound like its my fault they could not find the payment. This isn't the first, second or even third time this has happened. I almost always make more than the minimum payment and their service staff is VERY rude. Don't use them for loans, they eventually find my payment, (who knows who's account they charged it to) but I have to endure their rude phone calls and do the research to give them the check information. DON'T use this bank!!!!!!! read more

It is astonishing that this bank even attempts to maintain an online presence. Whoever is in charge of their IT needs to be removed. Over the last four years with attempting to make online payments or obtain balances, I have encountered a myriad of problems from failing to send security codes for identity "validation' to removing my online account access entirely because I did not check my balance or make an online transaction for three months. (Some of us still use mail at times) Just a total fail in customer service. read more

I do not recommend this bank. I had a loan and paid it off. Then suddenly I owed $42 more. Loan terms were so bad that after over a year of $110 payments I still owed$9,200 of a $10,000 Loan. I would have thought it was my credit rating but my credit is good. I should have gotten a loan somewhere else. read more

Had a very similar experience as Ann B. I use online bill pay almost exclusively and their website is just not set up for this. My online account was removed for some reason unknown to me (they told me they do this after a period of inactivity, but I was using to pay my bills online every month so that doesn't compute). I tried SO MANY times to reset my account, and the online prompt said a new password was sent to my mail, which it never was - nowhere to be found in spam either. Apparently you have to completely re-register if your account lapses but that was never indicated until I finally got a person on the phone to tell me how to do that (and it was not intuitive either). Previously, I just got passed around when I called for help, usually to voicemail and never heard back. The worst part is because I could never log in to see my exact amount owed I slightly underpaid my bill when I decided to circumvent their website and paid from my bank's online billpay, and then got dinged on my credit report for a late payment. Would not recommend if you expect good service or up-to-date technology. read more

This is a terrible financial institution. I strongly recommend working with another lender. Their website interface is barely functional for online banking which is what like +98% of modern banking infrastructure is built around. In my particular experience this led to me not receiving important information about my account in a timely manner which had negative financial implications for me. They also do not send out invoices on most loans save for mortgages. So really, the only way to really know what is owed on a loan is through telephone correspondence. Like most banks, they want the interest on your loan and nothing else. Terrible bank. Proceed with caution. read more

We had a finance contract with a local contractor through 1st Security Bank Mountlake Terrace. When the first payment was due we paid the entire balance due. 6 1/2 weeks after we thought we had settled the account we received a phone call informing us that we had not paid the account in full. We were required to "contact 1st Security Bank" in order to "close the account." I asked why we were not contacted or given an accounting for 6 1/2 weeks. The reply: "We don't do that." That is not only astonishing, that a bank does not "account", but it was very clear that this was a way they operated. That is deceitful, dishonest and predatory. As YELP does not provide "no star" for a rating, they get a protested "1 star". They are not even worthy of that meager snub. read more
