They did an appetizer buffet for our Christmas Gathering at the Zoo on a Tuesday Evening. It was great!! I will use them again.

Dinner By David - Handmade Potato Gnocchi with Sage Brown Butter

    Dinner By David

The…read moreyear before, we had taken a family trip with our parents to Scotland and had a fabulous meal at The Kitchin in Edinburgh, a 1-star Michelin-rated restaurant. The meal and experience was so memorable that we wanted to replicate it in our parent's home and asked Chef David to serve a 5-course meal for 8 adults. His communications in preparation for the event were clear and professional. He took our preferences into account, including my sister's need for gluten free options, and he provided exciting options, it was difficult to choose. The entire meal ended up being gluten free, much to my sister's delight. Chef David arrived at 2pm for a 6pm meal and we could tell right away that it was going to be a great experience. He brought positive energy into the house, and it was a lot of fun talking to him and seeing him prepare for the meal. I think our dad must have talked to him for an hour or more while he was preparing the food. The whole house smelled AMAZING! Our menu was Scallops Muniére, Gnocchi with sage brown butter and parmesan, Orange and Spinach Salad, Beef Pappardelle with wild mushrooms and burrata cheese, and the most amazing Chocolate Cream Pie I've ever had. Chef David served up what I would consider a Michelin-rated experience in my parent's home. It was truly an amazing experience and a beautiful memory for our family. Scotland was amazing, but having this experience right at home was something special. And, to top it off, Chef David cleaned everything up afterwards! We highly recommend hiring Chef David!!

Prior to making the new arrangement, my husband was sourcing our meals via fast food take-out and a limited rotation of local restaurants. Factoring in gas and food costs, this turned out to be an expensive and frustrating way to operate. Our experience with Chefs for Seniors has been wonderful from the very first visit. Laura Thomsen comes every two weeks to cook the menus we choose. (There are other plans - we just chose this one for our needs). Laura is friendly and competent. Everything we have tasted for our meals has been delicious. When we have a few modifications we wish to make (picky husband) she makes the switches cheerfully. After cooking up a storm, Laura leaves my kitchen spotless. I should also say that Larry, the guy who runs the Kansas City Chefs for Seniors is wonderfully approachable and available. While it might seem posh and expensive to have a personal chef, if you do the math, you'll find that getting healthy home-cooked meals from a competent cook is invaluable. And all in all, quite reasonable in price. I highly recommend this company and their services.

I went to a Lunch meeting Tuesday with the expectation of another so-so meal. It had just snowed…read moreanother 6 inches and was FREEZING outside. Instead, I was greeted by a large bowl of spring greens. Strange, I thought. It's February and -15 out and we are eating salad? I inserted the tongs and was surprised by pops of red, orange, yellow and black. There was fresh fruit hidden under the greens. Where do you find handsome blackberries and bright shiny strawberries this time of year? I sprinkled some sweet scented vinaigrette across the top and moved on to a warm dish of moist (some people have an aversion to this word, but is was) chicken. I may have added more than my share. I next encountered a mountain of flaky pull apart garlic bread. It was still warm (from the oven in my mind) and couldn't wait to peel the layers into my mouth. It may not be pc to do, but oh well. Finally, the glory of dessert. It's why everyone pays for lunches with subpar food. The hope that the dessert trumps what you have already eaten. The calories don't count as dessert because they are part of the meal. No guilt in my book. Cupcakes!! With a generous helping of delicious sky blue frosting and a little sunflower on top. Never have I been served kid friendly cupcakes at a business luncheon before. I sat down with my small hill of greens, fresh fruit, chicken, biscuits, and the glorious cupcake. I tried to rush through the meal but the salad was fresh, the dressing tangy, the chicken melted in my mouth. I used my fingers to peel the biscuits flaky layers and enjoyed the buttery taste. And finally, plate cleared as my mother taught me, I was alone with the cupcake. Against my childlike urges, I so maturely took my fork and cut a small bite from it's edge. Then another and another. Finally, I was left with an empty foil wrapped. I took my finger, wiped the frosting from the liner and promptly stuck it in my mouth. So much for manners! I have no recollection what the lunch meeting was about, but you can bet I will pay the association fee for the year and enjoy that lunch every month. Thanks Simply Sarahs, for making my day a little brighter!
