Located at the base of the town (and convenient to parking) this is a perfect stop to fortify yourself after a climb up the hill. The interior is quietly elegant in a clubby way and the staff is helpful and very knowledgeable. I opted for the €25 lunch menu which started with a lovely amuse of mushroom velouté. My plat was a "faux filet" but there was nothing tough or gristly about the beautiful steak I was served. It was perfectly medium, and served with mushrooms and a peppercorn wine sauce. That was followed by one of the most delicious desserts ever - pain perdu with an orange honey glaze and spiced ice cream. The bread had a sugary crunch outside and was soft inside, perfect for soaking up that beautiful sauce. If you're looking for a good lunch spot in the area, treat yourself here - this is high quality done exceptionally well by nice people.

It's been one of those restaurants that you don't expect to be open. Alas I've been coming around here for nearly 6 years and this is the first time it opened. Marrakesh, of course, serves Moroccan food. It's not the kind you often see in London, which is really one of the only places I've ever eaten excessive amount of Moroccan. The three places I've been to in San Francisco, two of which are Michelins and one is an old school one, don't compare to European Moroccan food (neither bad or good, just different), you simply should not have expectations. Except, that I do. I've been eating Moroccan food obsessively since 2010. I ate non stop whenever I'm in London, until I finally got bored of it. I expected it to be spicier than this. Moroccan / French food found in a small mediaeval town is quite different than Moroccan food in a hipster neighborhood in London circa July 2015. For one they do not have Harrissa sauce, which is actually made in France (btw, I'm taking a bunch of them back to San Francisco to friends who like them hot). In France, this restaurant serves up fragrant, creamy, tender meats in a tajine cooked to perfection with delicious fruits like prunes, figs and pear. I am not kidding you. This is the thing to get. The seven beans is good. My lamb came with figs and almonds. And the chicken meat pie is delicious and sweet. Everything is tender to touch. I love the small town service. I've always felt the service has gotten better since we first set our foot in this little city, or perhaps this being Burgundy, it's just better in general. but this restaurant is fabulous with attentive service. Don't forget to order mint tea. Tajines, salade, and for enfants, they have a nice burger with fries - served with seasoning and digging sauce. Absolutely fantastic. If you are visiting me, in the summer, I'll take you here, just don't be bringing your London expectations.
