I've joyfully purchased furs, boots, scarves... shall I go on? Lol Today, however, my experience was, at best, humiliating. Today, I came with a small bag of donations, a few gently worn items and some new "Chico's" dresses still with purchase tags. I had no idea there was a protocol to follow: 1. Make an appointment 2. Everything must be pressed and on hangers... I was only 'stopping-by" to to good deed... nothing more. The woman who greeted me, very curtly told me that I was supposed to have made an appointment. After the dressing down for no appointment, she said she'd see me. Then, giving my small bag the once over without opening it, told me she couldn't take anything, to take it back because everything had to be on hangers. She then opened the bag and showed me how very wrinkled my things were and launched into a dissertation about how there wasn't enough 'woman power' to press all the clothes. She said I could take my things elsewhere. I am so glad there were no other customers in the shop within earshot... I was mortified. I told the woman that I had no idea there were rules to follow, I was only doing a good deed. (Please note: I do understand that, as with anything, there need to be guidelines. Surely I would have complied had I known.) The woman then told me to leave the bag and she'd go through it, keep what she felt acceptable and 'donate' the rest. She thanked me and then, in a somewhat condescending tone, invited me to browse. I thanked her and said, "I don't think so.". I left feeling embarrassed and quite hurt. Shame on that woman... she should not be allowed to represent Consign Design! Her unkindness caused unnecessary hurt and humiliation ... and isn't that what Consign Design champions against? They have huge sections of clothes (women/men/children), shoes, housewares, small appliances, media (video/music/books), toys, games, and even a small section with furniture. The prices are MUCH better than what I had recently seen at a different store. They do have a parking lot, which gets fairly busy, but I've always found a space. To drop off items for donation, you can just bring you car to the front of the shop, and there are large plastic bins where you can place your items. There is usually an employee there who can advise you, and can also give you a slip to fill out for tax deductions. Tip - If you do drop off items for donation, they have been giving out coupons you can use in the store too. We were able to get an additional 20% off this way!

Repeated Poor Staff Behavior - Buyer Beware…read more I visited the Habitat for Humanity Restore on Sunday, March 15th, for my third visit to the store. On my first visit, I was assisted by a gentleman whose attitude I would describe as inconsistent (nice/nasty)--both nice and dismissive at the same time. I purchased several items that day, and he helped load them into my vehicle. I decided to overlook the attitude because I was happy with my purchases. On my third visit, I unfortunately encountered the same individual. Once again, he displayed the same inconsistent nice/nasty attitude. While loading a large purchase into my vehicle, I suggested a different way to place an item so it would fit more easily. He followed my suggestion, and the item fit perfectly--but he seemed visibly upset and brusque afterward. As I stepped back to take one last look around, I overheard him making unprofessional comments about me to two other staff members. When I approached the staff area to address this, he claimed I was unappreciative, which is not true, and added that he didn't work for another store, seemingly implying I was unreasonable. Two other staff members were clearly embarrassed by his behavior, but nothing was done to remedy the situation. While the store offers great deals, repeated disrespect from the same staff member on multiple visits is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this store based on my experience. Buyer beware.

I love this place, I try to come at least once a week because you never know what treasures you…read moremight find. Nowadays, most thrift stores put anything of value on Ebay or Amazon. That's why so many thrift stores are selling only lesser value items or junk. But here, they don't sell online and that's a big plus for their customers. The good stuff is still in the store and on their shelves. They are also reasonably priced. Save yourself shipping charges by stopping in and having a browse. Even when I am not looking for anything specific, when I find myself driving down Route 46 East and I see the Essex Diner, that is my cue to take the U-turn and drop in to check out any new merchandise they might have. Too many thrift stores are also in sketchy neighborhoods with cramped parking lots. Not here, they have a giant parking lot and they are in a very safe neighborhood. One less worry on your mind. And they are always looking for some good donations. So, if you have an old camera gathering dust, why give it to a relative where it will spend decades more in another closet or draw. Donate it! And whether shopping or donating, you are helping to change people's lives. That alone makes the trip worthwhile.

She told me she would send me the list of what she chose but I never received a copy from her. I took photos of all the pieces she took and I paid the $10 fee and got a receipt for it. On the receipt it said I would get 45% of the sales price and AFTER 90 DAYS, IF UNSOLD, THE CLOTHING WOULD BECOME THE PROPERTY OF THE STORE A week later I went in to see how my clothing was priced but only found about half put out. The most expensive pieces were not there. I went through every rack carefully. I asked the owner where they were and she said they were out but didn't have time to show me where. I stopped in 3 more times and could not find any of my expensive pieces anywhere in the store. I took pictures of the racks. Each time the sales person said she was too busy to show me where they were. On Nov. 20, 2024 I stopped in and th saleswoman said 3 were sold but again I couldn't find almost half of my pieces. So I asked the saleswoman to please have the owner call me and I wanted all my unsold clothing back. If I waited much longer the rest would become the property of the store. The next day I received a call from the owner and she said I could come an get my things. I reminder her that I wanted to get a check for the amount owed me. When I came in she gave me the clothes but the expensive pieces still weren't there. Gina said they sold. Hmm- in one day? I received a check from her for what she said sold. Please remember I was never able to confirm what price she asked for those pieces as they were never put out. I feel if I wasn't so diligent I am sure I never would have been paid for those expensive pieces and everything but three pieces would have become their property.
