I've been to a 3 Brasseurs before, and I knew what I was getting myself into. Think chain restaurant, aka sysco in terms of food. It's honestly not the best food, but small kids and 6 dollar kids menu, I mean, you can't beat that on Sparks. It was hot out and I was feeling a tad light headed and starving, so I wanted something starchy and heavy, so I ordered the poutine. It was basically their standard shoe string fries (most likely frozen from a bag and not cut in house) topped with a light gravy and cheese curds! I mean at least they used curds right? It was probably the top 3 more laughable poutines that I have had, but still edible. The hubby ordered some sausage and sauerkraut dish. I ate a lot of his sauerkraut. It was good. Kids meals were decent, but again served with the shoe string fries that the kids barely touched. Actually they barely finished their meals (one mac and cheese bites the other chicken fingers) It did come with a drink and dessert though. The highlight was the giant pretzel that we shared at the table. I'd recommend that. It was delicious and a show stopper, especially with the mustard dipping sauce. We sat on the patio which was pretty quiet on a Sunday. Restaurant inside was empty. I did use their bathroom on the second floor. It was clean, but smelled of urine. The restaurant inside had some wear and tear and a strange smell as well. Glassware served was dirty but I am sure if I brought it up it would be rectified. Such a nice location and the beer is good too. However, whatever you do, do not order the Cheddar/Beer Soup in a Bread Bowl. The Bread Bowl is quite good and there is no shortage of cheese so what could be wrong. There is no room for soup. Instead of scooping out the bread to make a bowl, we found all of the scooped out bread back in the bowl which left negligible space for the soup. It was more like a soggy cheesy bun. My dinner companion had read broccoli was in the soup - nada. I thought onion - minimal. Just cheese and bread. I sure hope the rest of the menu is better. Will not return. read more

I'm back in Ottawa !! Been here many times and rather than the same stop on day one we did a 5 min walk over to 3 Brasserie from our hotel after checking in. It was a long day getting here as things worked with delays and such Most places were either closed or their kitchen was closed other.than take out by the time we arrived near 9:30 so finding this place so close to the Delta Hotel with the kitchen open past 10pm on a Friday was a Bonus. The entire experience we had was great. Our server was very nice and she had it all together Orders arrived promptly from start to finish. I had a flight to start and for the most part they hit the spot but the Amber was the weak link. I haven't had an amber back east that had the same body as a West Coast Brew. I find them more to be like a Dark coloured IPA than a true Amber. Anyway... All the food was Great Salads were very fresh Cheese in the Pair salad was a thing of beauty as well as the caramelized onions BBQ wings were tender and the Pretzel was wicked !! Best pretzel ever and I've had a few. I love the cheese and honey mustard dips plus the presentation is great Never knew you could get Beer to go till Midnight in Ottawa How Cool is that !? Do not go there on your 1h Lunch break - service is slower than slow. It used to be fine - I have been there before on my lunch and had no issues. Service is bad - after ordering we waited a good 45 minutes only to have the waiter come and ask us what we wanted... so we kindly said we already ordered. He was obviously sorry but that is unacceptable. We got our cold food with 4 minutes left in our lunch break, unfortunately, just not the best experience - also considering half the tables were empty - unimpressed. In Ottawa for work and met with a fellow Yelp Elite who had recently moved to the area from Vancouver. It was a cold weekday night and the place was packed. I can imagine this establishment would be even busier on warm summer nights with its great location on Sparks Street. I do enjoy sampling IPAs from craft breweries and great that they had an IPA on tap. The IPA was quite good at 60 IBU and 6 %. I was meeting up with friends for dinner so did not get a chance to try the food and will ensure I cover this off the next time I am back in Ottawa. 3/5 the location and décor. It's well located, with free parking after 5 pm and it's expansive and well decorated. Update: been back a few times and finding it generic. 3/5 for the food. It was lukewarm. I always had hot food at my visits to other Les 3 Brasseurs in Québec. I had the Provencale flatbread (i won't attempt to say the belgian word! ). It was good. My friends had the one with bacon and it was lukewarm as well. It could have been that we were a bigger table so they had some difficulty coordinating all the food coming at the same time. Not a big deal, i'll go back again. The chicken with BBQ sauce is my favourite, by the way, based on my experience at other locations. 4/5 for the beer. Well made, good selection and at a decent price. I have been disappointed over the increasing hike in the cost of a pint at many of the local pubs! This place serves its own quality brews and it's cheaper than all the competitors in the downtown core! Definitely going to be a new after work hangout for me and my friends! The service was not too bad... I was just a little impatient that my drink was not being filled frequently. The atmosphere is nice and upbeat, very nice illumination and the tables are well distributed. The food... nothing like I expected. The pork schnitzel was just a fried breaded pork loin with no flavor, I added a grill ham and it was literally a 1/16 of an inch slice... I could see through I think. Wow what is wrong with this 3 Brewer? We got our table for 8 persons at the patio area. We ordered our food and then I added my order for a half pint of my favourite white beer. 30 minutes passed and we asked our waitress to check that we were still waiting for our food. She said it was busy at the kitchen. Fine! I doubt if she even bother to check if she still got our orders. Another 10 minutes passed, I asked the same waitress again that we were really hungry now and especially the two kids. I told her that even my beer didn't come yet. She said she would take a look. I was being nice even though we were losing patience. However, few minutes later, I saw her serving drinks to a table next to us who actually came after our orders were placed. My beer still wasn't served yet. Ridiculous eh? Were we not welcomed to be served? Did you forget our orders? Anyway, no explanation and no apology. We left and even without a chance to talk to the restaurant manager! I would say it was not the total fault of our waitress. It is a huge restaurant. 5 stars for the beer! The meter of beer is not as intimidating as it looks or sounds. We ordered it for 2 people and we each drank 5 beers with no problem. They are only 9oz each. You can mix the beers or order them all the same. We of course mixed because otherwise where is the fun in it? We didn't order food because we had a bad experience with food at the one in Montreal. However, it is nice to have something to pick at while you drink your meter of beer. Maybe next time. read more

I've been to this location a few times since it opened and with all factors considered, bottom line is that it's a decent place to get some beers and food, but nothing outstanding. Also known as Les 3 Brasseurs, it's a French microbrewery/restaurant chain that makes their own beer, which you see when you walk in. They have their traditional beers on tap, plus a feature/seasonal, and a neighborhood beer. They're all quite good, so I would suggest ordering a flight, if you can, to taste a few of them. These also come in different sizes for those big/little drinkers out there. I got the Premium et Cetera flight (blonde, IPA, feature, and neighborhood beers), which works out to a brewer size mug in total (4.5 ounces each, so larger than a pint altogether). The last time I ate here, I decided to order the Toulouse Sausage platter with onions and toast. It's meant to share but I ordered it just for myself. It was enough food, though greasy and the onions can be overwhelming. The sausage itself was drier than I'd like, but the flavor was good. Not sure it was worth the $17, though. They do seem to change their menu often to include specials and dishes that aren't really the kind you'd find at your standard bars, which is nice, though I wouldn't consider the prices to be incredibly affordable if you're just looking for a pint and simple snacks. I've always found the service to be good, especially when you're seated upstairs and your server has to keep going up and down. This place has a great selection of beers but you should only come here for that. Wait staff came to our table twice. Once to get drink order once to get food order. After that they disappeared into thin air never to be seen again. While taking my order though the server looked as if we were doing something wrong by ordering food. I had to flag down a random server to get more water. From sitting down to getting food was about 1 hour with drink orders being taken after 10-15 minutes. I ordered the Rib Steak with beer batter fries and regular fries and the pretzel starter. The steak was supposed to be medium and came out well done, dry, poorly seasoned, and a little tough. The fries could compete with McDonald's for quality and saltiness. It would have been a little more bearable if water was refilled. The beer batter fries were quite good and the pretzel was salty, soft and warm as it should be. But 35$ for a thin dry overcooked steak is something that will keep me away. Would not recommend for food but the beer is nice. Edit: this was posted approx. 7pm food was taken away by 730 and I got my check at 8 and paid at 830. A 2.5 hour experience. read more

I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of T3B. I pass by by almost every day and the gleaming copper kettles and eye appealing decor. They finally opened yesterday, so it was filling up quickly as we arrived at 11:40. We were seated and reviewed an excellent looking menu. Now comes the time when the the inexperience starts to show. The service was very slow. If its busy when you go, do not order the sampler flights. They had run out of glasses so we were on hold with no drinks for quite a while. The food even took longer to appear. The food was enjoyed by all but is was after 1:30 by the time we left. I have to say that despite the many (many) not too favourable reviews for this place, I actually didn't mind it all that much though I can see that one's experience may depend on what they ordered. FOOD Case in point, having lunch here last week with two friends, one ordered a burger, one ordered their sauerkraut, and I ordered a steak salad. While I didn't try the burger, I have to say that if I ordered it I would have been disappointed with the size as there wasn't much on the plate. The sauerkraut however was a full dish, like my salad. Taste wise my salad at least was middle of the road. STYLE/AMBIENCE Well, to me at least, this place doesn't disappoint. It's bloody huge and has a nice look to it. (I wouldn't want to know how much it cost to build it). SERVICE I would say service was pretty good. Our waitress was attentive and promptly refilled my drink without me needing to ask. VALUE Not much to contribute on this. Prices weren't cheap, nor were they expensive. --- So, would I go back? Actually, I probably would. If you're in downtown Ottawa, there really aren't that many good places like this to eat. This was one of the best lunches we had in Ottawa. Gastro-brasserie, micro-bistro, craft-pub, whatever you want to call it, this is a very creative and delicious spot for good beer made in-house and some very good food, most of which finds a way to incorporate beer in it somehow. We had the French Dip and the Brasseur Burger (with maple beer sauce -hello!!) and both were outstandingly flavorful and good value for money. And in both cases I have to give a shout out for the bread that was used in both dishes. The dip had the most amazing baguette style bun that was light and crispy without being hard, and the burger used a bun that was just the right consistency that absorbed all the juicy goodness as you are, but still had a firm enough outside to make handling it easy without it being tough to chew. Clearly someone is paying attention to these things and it pays off big time. The space is fun and lively with the brewery visible from the floor, and the service was quick and friendly. What a bizarre place. First of all, it's brand new and pretty gorgeous in there. It has copper ceilings and a copper bar with a large staircase making a feature wall and huge windows with a nice view of the streets. My husband and I sat down at the bar because all of the tables were full, and I immediately loved it because they had hooks under the bar! A major plus on my end. However, ultimately, as my husband described it, all this pretty decor and little pieces were just "putting lipstick on a turd." I ordered the spring beer and so did my husband, after asking about the IPA and another beer on the menu. My husband had been there with colleagues for a beer a couple times before and kept asking about the IPA, which is on the menu quite clearly, even with a photo. It turns out, as the bartender told us, they have NEVER had that beer in stock. NEVER. How is this even possible? It's on the menu. When asked about a second-choice beer, that one has also never been in stock. Strange. Anyway, he told us to get the spring beer, so we did, and it was absolutely nothing special at all. A simple, mass-produced Sam Adams Alpine Spring is 10 times better. I could barely finish it, so I passed it off and went toward the beer cocktails on the menu that looked interesting. I ordered one with grenadine, blonde beer and vodka (I believe), which I would never normally do, but since none of the other beers were in stock except for a wheat beer, I thought I'd try. The bartender poured my drink and then walked away from the bar for about 10-15 minutes without ever giving it to me. I looked at it sitting on the other side of the bar the whole time until a completely different bartender came over and I asked him to get it for me. So, the service wasn't a draw either. Since it was absolutely pouring out, we reluctantly stayed for food. Never again. I ordered a chicken tenders wrap for around $13-14. It was basic and, I thought, hard to mess up. It was chicken tenders, lettuce, onion, bacon and tomato in a wrap with honey mustard. I asked if I could get it without bacon and I was informed that I could NOT do that since it was "made in the morning and then frozen." SURE IT IS. They must get this food from a mass supplier frozen. When it came, it was completely unexpected. It was hot, first of all, and it didn't have any lettuce in it. Just chicken tenders, bacon and cheese wrapped up and cooked with some small pieces of onion and tomato. The honey mustard was served on the side in a small McDonalds style packet, like you get with your nuggets. Clearly not fresh or made in house. There's a little label on the top of the package like it came from one of those bulk sites where you order branded pens and sunglasses for your company, but it was definitely not made in house -- it's just a slight of hand. Plus, the package is too small to dip the wrap in. I have no idea what they were thinking. Fries were definitely coming from frozen. NO flavor at all and soggy. My husband's pizza was so thin it was almost translucent. If you like a friendly pour, this isn't the place. They have this gadget that gives a "perfect" pour every time, which takes a little bit of soul out of the place and the bartenders. Which is actually quite representative of the place as a whole. I've been to the Sparks Street location for a beer, and the Kanata location for beer and food. It's a great place to go in the west end before a Sens game! Their burger was tasty and not messy.
