I'm sharing my personal experience from an appointment here that unfortunately resulted in significant damage to my hair. I had previously gone to this salon about two years earlier for a wash treatment, and that experience was gentle and positive. Because of that, I felt comfortable returning. During this appointment, however, the experience was very different. The stylist poured baking soda directly onto my scalp and scrubbed my hair very aggressively. This was not something that had been done during my previous visit, and it was not explained or discussed with me beforehand. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I told her I was uncomfortable with baking soda being poured directly onto my scalp, and she told me it was fine and continued.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Afterward, I was placed under the dryer and no one checked on me. After about 20 minutes, my hair felt extremely dry and brittle. My locs were sticking outward and felt stiff, so I removed my head from under the dryer myself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When the stylist began crocheting my locs, the process was extremely tight and painful. I told her multiple times that it was hurting and asked her to loosen or stop, but the tight crocheting continued.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After the appointment, I noticed significant breakage as well as visible demarcation in my locs. I had maintained my dreadlocks for about 4.5 years and took great care of them. They contributed to my income as well. Prior to this appointment my hair was soft, full, and healthy. After this service, the condition of my locs was so compromised that I ultimately had to remove them. Since then, I have not been able to successfully loc my hair again. Whether due to the damage, stress, or changes in my hair texture, the experience has had a lasting impact. I have photos documenting the condition of my hair afterward. Losing locs that I had grown and cared for over several years has been extremely upsetting and has deeply affected my confidence and sense of identity. I would not wish this experience on anyone. New in town and made an appointment for a trim and an all over color. This should have been a simple appointment. Color went fine, stylist wasn't exactly my type, but no big deal. I explained multiple times I was growing out my hair and just wanted a trim. My hair was slighty past my shoulders at the shortest and a bit longer at the longest (layers) It turned out awful. She hacked the hell out of my hair saying how much 'movement' the new layers will give me. I cried when I got home and won't be back. Some of these layers are so short that I can barely get them in a ponytail. I paid $200 for someone to give me a hack job that will take months and months to regrow when all I wanted was a trim. EDITED BASED ON SALON OWNERS SNARKY UNPROFESSIONAL RESPONSE Not sure how you're going to fix a hack job other than cutting it even shorter than your stylist already did. Glue my hair back on? I have had a very hard time as a woman of color finding a salon to handle my curly hair. I have had issues with people who even have the same hair texture as me refuse to do my hair. It has caused me to not go to salons. When I found Three little birds. I thought maybe this would be different and sure enough it was. I wish I could give this place 10 stars. Chris cut my hair, they were wonderful! They handled my hair as if it were their own. They loved it and caresses it. Highly disappointed in the service from Ashley L. As I came in for a bang fix that was uneven from a haircut a month prior. A week goes by and I notice the bang trim is still uneven! I didn't have time to go in or contact with my busy schedule so altogether 2 weeks went by and I contact Ashley about a redo. She says it's been a month when I reminded her my Venmo transaction was only 2 weeks ago. I think it's completely fair to try out a style for a week or two before having a redo. She refuses to respond for days and then finally tells me it's not a good fit and to go somewhere else. She also said the going rate was $15 for a bang trim when she charged me $20, and it only took her 10 mins of her time. I tipped her $5 then too so $25 for a bang trim after just spending $80 on a haircut is ridiculous. She is a horrible hairdresser and I will never go back! read more

Chris was so gentle and respectful and kind, which is something I have found so rarely with many stylists in Denver. If you're looking for a new salon, this is NOT it. I was looking for a local place for trims while I let my hair grow out naturally and this seemed like a great option. However after 2 cuts and a "deep conditioning" mask, there is not a chance I will be returning. Each dry cut lasted less than 15 minutes with zero attention to my layers, making it an even trim or seemingly cutting any split ends. The deep conditioning treatment left my hair much drier than before. See below for my last hair cut which is insanely uneven. Complete waste of $60+ each time.. Very very disappointing. I have been to the salon many many times over the past couple years because it is so close to my home and my work. However, I have very rarely left actually fully happy with my haircut, and not just telling myself "It will look good once my bangs grow out" There's a very high turnover at the salon, I am always seeing new people and finding out that my previous stylists have left. Once, I went in for a simple trim haircut on my long hair, and it took two hours because the stylist chose to talk to the people surrounding her so much. I was flabbergasted. I'm now heading off to my fiancé's family reunion to meet many people with half of my forehead showing underneath my bangs, when I asked for a simple bang trim where my bangs touched my eyebrows. Maybe this place does good work with dreads, as they are known for, but they will complain behind your back about your simple request for longer dread extensions, I know this because they have complained in front of me. I am one of their simplest customers, coming in just for bang trims and the occasional long straight hair trim. I will not be returning to this salon, I should never watch a half inch of my bangs cut off when I asked for a trim and for my bangs to touch my eyebrows. I figured it was time to update this since I've been seeing Tallie at 3 Little Birds for almost 2 years now. I know "seeing" makes that sound like a relationship -- but it's probably the most functional 2-year relationship I've ever had, so yes. I'm from California. I'm picky about my hair. I'm used to some really nice salons and people who know what they're doing. And 3 Little Birds has not disappointed. HAIR COLOR: I love the things Tallie has done with my hair. When I first came here, I wanted to do ombre/balayage (when your hair gradually fades to a different shade/color towards the ends). It's not easy to do well, but Tallie has always done a fantastic job with it. She's also great at doing highlights, and will do them in various shades to give your hair more depth. She's also died the ends of my hair pink, and put pink highlights in my hair. I've even had her dye my hair yellow (no, not blonde -- yellow), and it's probably one of the coolest things I've done with my hair. Point is -- I trust Tallie implicitly to do anything I ask with my hair. Or recommend something else when I have no idea what I want (hey, I get bored sometimes). ATMOSPHERE: 3 Little Birds is a little more quirky/funky than what you may be used to. Or it may be exactly what you're used to if you live in Uptown. In any case, it fits right in with it's upbeat music, bright colors, cool artwork, wooden doors for mirror stands, and hairdressers with all shades of hair color. I love coming here. I first heard of this salon while looking for makeup and hair for my wedding this past October during the pandemic. I did the initial meeting with Taylor and was very happy with her work so I hired her for my wedding. She came to my house (and wore a mask) and was super friendly, attentive to what I was requesting, and delivered exactly that. I had done another trial with another lady and was disappointed when the results were not what I asked. The fact that Taylor did both hair and makeup was really convenient and helpful for pandemic times since it was only one person coming to my house versus two. She also suggested fake lashes which i had never done before and im so glad I did, super fun! Everything went according to plan on the wedding day and Taylor was a pleasure to work with. After the wedding, I was looking for a new place to do my highlights and regular haircuts after I was disappointed by the results at my regular place. 3little birds saved my dreads!!! I originally got my hair dreaded from dreadlocks denver but after seeing what a real full service shop looks like I wish I started here to begin at 3littlebirds. Paige is amazing and as a guy with minimal experience in a salon they made me feel at home. My hair went to hell in a hand basket after only 3 months, but after walking into 3little birds the whole staff was at hand to help fix me up well. The resident stylist goddess Rachel lined up and gave me a on point haircut and fade then Paige came in and completely rebuilt my collapsing dreads. Everything from men's haircuts (including black hair) to coloring/ dreads, deep cleans and awesome convos can are just the tip of the iceberg here. They even stayed late with me because I underestimated the amount of time needed to fix the bird nest on my head. 100% the best spot to get dreads done or fixed in Denver. I was greeted with a huge smile from Lasha and while I was waiting, Bree answered all of my hair product questions. My stylist made sure to acknowledge and consult with me while she was working with the previous client and the appointment started right on time! Every other stylist I've ever been to has told me that my dreams of being as blonde as I want to be would not be achievable, but Carly (blessed with magical powers from the Hair gods) made it happen. She's also an artist (painter) and you can tell by how she assesses and executes creating your hair masterpiece. She even scheduled me as her last booking (it took 5 hours) so that she could solely focus on my hair. Not only did she give me the hair I've been wanting, but also sincerely listens to your wants and desires while also being honest and informative. Now let's talk about Kevin Murphy products! This Australian company offers a line of micro cultivated, organic products that are, most importantly, cruelty-free. They smell amazing and feel so creamy on your hair! I purchased both the Blonde Angel Rinse and Wash to ensure my hair stays as beautiful as when I left the salon. I think you can tell by now that I highly recommend this salon. While they do dreads, its not exactly a place I would choose for my hair type- textured. However they were open, I was in town and I really needed a trim. I let my stylist have free reign but with the request to keep length and add volume. While a good five inches were cut from my hair, I am happy with the cut, it looks super healthy now. I don't think I would recommend this salon if you want a hairstylist who has experience with curly, kinky or hair. BUT for dreads, a quick trim, or a color job this is definitely the place. Do not ever give your patronage to this salon. The stylist who did my hair, who happens to be the owner, completely and utterly ruined my hair to the point where it had to be shaved. I had been looking for a few weeks for a salon that could do an undercut design for me since I have a pixie cut and wanted to jazz it up. I did my research, had several consultations with multiple salons (including three little birds, and I ended up deciding that they were the most qualified for the cut. Undercut designs aren't easy and I wanted to make sure I was in good hands. I brought in a picture of exactly what I wanted (attached) and they said, "No problem, we can definitely do that." What the stylist proceeded to do was shave this into my head instead (also attached). I was furious when she turned me around to show me her work. There was absolutely no way to fix it and I ended up asking her to simply shave my head, there wasn't another option! She had already cut my hair down to the scalp in the back. I was livid and told her exactly how I felt. She gave me a $15 discount and then proceeded to charge me $60 for the "haircut".' I was incredibly embarrassed. I had to go to a different salon the next day to have my head re-shaved because, even then, she didn't know what she was doing and didn't shave it evenly. I was left bald and incredibly disappointed. If you can't do a complicated design, just say you can't do it. That's why I did my research and had a consultation beforehand because I knew it was so uncommon. Before leaving the salon the stylist (owner) suggested that next time I be more specific when looking for an undercut. I'm looking for suggestions on how bringing in a picture of the exact design I was looking for could be made more specific. After all, the last thing I want to do is insult a piss poor stylist by being vague. Find some where that hires talented employees who respect their clients even if they're not happy. TL;DR - DO NOT GO HERE FOR NATUAL HAIR. DREADS ONLY!!!! Seriously. Save your time and money. If you want a balayage or haircut, go somewhere else. I spent $340 here and then had to go to a different salon (Emerge Salon) and pay another $350 to have them fix it. This has never happened to me before and I've had multiple balayages done much better for much less in San Francisco. The first time I came here Xally cut my hair. I asked for bangs and layers, and walked out with no bangs and a blunt cut. You can see this in the before pictures where my hair is all brown. I went back a few days later and she reluctantly gave me bangs, and they came out perfect. Skip ahead 4 months, I came back for a cut and full balayage with Rachel. The cut took about 5 minutes and was fine. They balayage came out terrible. Orange greenish gray dull and brassy. No dimension, shine, depth or natural color. Nothing like the pictures or what I asked for. It was not blended well either. I lied and said it looked good and then went home and cried. That's on me. I was going on vacation in three days and didn't trust them to fix it after how badly they messed it up. So I went to Emerge Salon and they gave me exactly what I wanted. When the stylist saw my hair, without context or backstory, he assumed it was a really grown out poorly done balayage that need major toner and touch up. His jaw hit the floor when I told him I'd just got it done a few days ago. I barely had to explain what I wanted and he fixed it without question and did an amazing job. 3 Little Birds offered to give me a free service but I don't trust them to touch my hair again, can't risk it, and will not be going back there. Again, I've never had this problem before and I've had numerous balayages done elsewhere. Really nice people though and great atmosphere in the salon. Good vibes and love the plants. The absolute worst haircut I have ever received by Tori. I called to schedule a haircut and I told them over the phone that my hair is curly and people typically like to do it dry but I still want a wash and blowout and I trust whatever you guys think is best. I get to the salon and she goes, well i don't think I have enough time to wash cut and dry you. Im already like uh ok well then lets just do a cut. I show her what I usually get and tell her to just trim it. She cut off 7 inches! Then she did my angles and layers. I show her that both sides are uneven and she goes yeah that's typical for a dry cut (mind you one is at my eye length and the other at my chin). She proceeds to tell me uneven haircuts are normal and I was thinking well not to the point where its so visually noticeable? I kept quiet and let her fix it. Then she needed to fix the layers because she did one side and not the other and when I asked her to o both sides she was like oh yeah sure if you'd like. I didn't realize paying 70 dollars for a haircut meant literally asking her to do it evenly and her telling me uneven is normal!
