They had pastry options and some diner style hot breakfast, but I wasn't blown away by these options and (correctly) anticipated that I might prefer my food options on the other side of the mountains. However, their drink selection was quite robust for a place in a pretty rural location. I ordered a coal dust which was a mix of white and dark chocolate; I was a bit miffed that the menu didn't make it clear that it was actually a coffee drink as it could just as well have been pure hot chocolate. However, the flavor combination was ultimately successful for me. Travelers should certainly consider stopping in this location to take a look around, and why not pick up a beverage?

There's an area in the back that feels like your living room, you're surrounded by old books on all four sides, there was a live fire chimney that we sat by for quite a while. This place is filled with thousands of books, a lot of them containing Appalachian literature showing the history of this place. Today we had the creme brulee frappe, a hot coal miner latte, and a hot mocha latte. I was able to order the lattes in "for here" mugs which made for great pictures. We also got the bacon mac and cheese panini, I'm not a big fan of putting mac and cheese in sandwiches, but this tasted amazing. With this being a small downtown area on an early Thursday morning, they only had one employee Skylar, but she was amazing and able to still get everything out quickly and she was very friendly while we had a lot of questions. Final note, I was impressed with the name of this business Moonbow Tipple. Moonbow which means lunar rainbow and tipple which can mean someone who drinks a lot or what your favorite drink would be. Which sounds like a great name for a bookstore. So have to speaking to the barista, moonbow is common occurrence here in this part of Kentucky and Tipple has to do with a coal tipple.

If you are driving between Asheville, NC and Abingdon, VA and sorely in need of something a bit stronger than a cup of coffee at Starbucks, I would recommend Pike House Coffee in a heartbeat.

It has an Industrial / Farmhouse vibe so much that I would feel very comfortable working from the laptop or having a professional meet up and be very relaxed. The staff here are so friendly and laid-back. I enjoyed the Croffle (I think that's what it was called) - it's a cross between a croissant and waffle. So delicious! They also offer homemade treats for your furry friends and there are gift items that are made locally. And on a side note - I would give this place an extra star if I could, simply because in a high spot of the store, there is the Philadelphia Eagles represented! FLY, EAGLES FLY! :)
