An amazing store…read more They sell exotic jerky: we purchased alligator, shark, yak, bison, and turtle jerky. They have a WIDE assortment of different kinds of meats and fish jerky. So cool! But not only do they have exotic jerky, they sell marinades, sauces, and jerky-related cooking implements. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Additionally, they sell the jerky equivalent "craft beer" -- small time local producers of jerky. The store is clean, and fun to walk through. Why only 3 stars? The price is prohibitively expensive. I wouldn't have purchased a single thing if I didn't see something as fun and special as yak jerky. I certainly wouldn't pay these prices for beef or pork! Does high quality command high price? Yes, definitely. But there comes a point where it just becomes absurd. I saw a bag of jerky for $8 for a 1 ounce bag, which works out to be over $100 per pound. I've been eating jerky for a long time, and know it's not cheap, but $100/pound is beyond anything I've seen before. For BEEF. So, while I loved walking around the store, and think it's a veritable Mecca for us jerky lovers, and even bought some exotic jerky, I felt a little insulted by the prices here. It took me a long time to find a similar cured ham and I have tried them from several states. This ham is not salt only cured and it is not smoked either. This is the ham for me. We packed them away in our suitcase, flew back to Seattle. Yesterday morning I popped open the package and fried up some amazing country ham. All is well with the world. To the person who complained about the ham being too salty, I wonder if you have had country ham before? The thing about it is it is salt cured, so it is salty. If you want it less salty, you could soak it in water for an hour or so before cooking, or simply buy a different ham. Call Sugar Grove and ask what ham suits your needs best. When I run out of this ham, I will order on-line from Sugar Grove.
