We arrived late at night to check in and the chef offered to still stay up to cook us dinner, and it was amazing! Beat whiskey and Best Veggie Haggis I had on the entire trip! The rooms were beautiful and the location was perfect. Thank you for the free umbrellas, the free wifi, and letting us barrow some outlet converters. The hotel has reached new heights under the present incumbents, Adam and Jan, and is very successfully presented as a comfortable country house hotel. The rooms are adequate to large in size, with good-sized en-suite bathrooms (shower or shower/bath). Decor is kept in good order and cleanliness is good. Adam oversees the kitchen, with a focus on locally-produced food resulting in excellent hearty breakfasts (featuring full Scottish, kedgeree, kippers, smoked haddock and toast from bread made on the premises) and high-quality evening meals (very good seasonal game and fish) served either informally in the bar or in the restaurant, both with fires in the colder months. The wine list is well-chosen, with something to appeal to almost every pocket and palate. Among the many things that make the Trigony unique are the home-baked shortbreads in the rooms, the artisanally-made toiletries and the views of red squirrels in the garden. At one time a monastery stood at the top of the Vennel looking down to the river and most of the land on either side was used for apple and plum orchards. Since we last visited the town there are many fascinating murals and wall plaques which were commissioned by Dumfries and Galloway Council in partnership with DG Arts and the road seems to have been repaved as well. There are also some interesting shops in the vennel and the excellent Pumpernickel cafe (not to be missed - highly recommended and already reviewed by me here!)

I arrived here in January as a wedding guest and stayed for two nights. The hotel reception area and function rooms are beautiful, a great place to hold a wedding, birthday or conference. I did feel that the quality of the bedrooms did not match the price charged and this is why I can only give 3 out of 5. The bed was comfy enough, however the pillows were too soft, the hair drier barely dried your hair and the bathroom had been neglected. The floor had several marks and the bath was dirty around the edges. I would also say that the breakfast was not very good so all in all, a disappointing experience for the money. I did enjoy the wedding and the bride and groom had a fantastic day but I feel the rooms need to be improved.

The reception is clean and tidy, the lady on reception over my stay was very friendly and helpful, she actually showed an interest in my reasons for my stay. There is a vending machine within the hotel if you get peckish or thirsty. Each room is well equiped with tea and coffee making facilities and TV's. There is ample parking outside and the hotel is next to the Solway Gate which is fantastic. This is an excellent priced hotel where kids stay free. The only downside is the hotel does not offer air-conditioning.

We stayed here for one night as it was dog friendly. The room was an ok size. It was just a bit run…read moredown. Think it needs some TLC. The bathroom was also ok. The building outside is really impressive but the inside does not match that. This is also a Best Western which is not obvious from the name. The staff are really friendly. I asked for 2 plates and some cutlery as we had brought back a takeaway. Some place can be weird about this but they were very obliging. Would recommend for a night or 2.

The grass sledging is so much fun for kids and adults of all ages. There is also a boating pond, indoor play barn. Picnic areas are available throughout the park and barbecues are set up for your use.If you forget your picnic there is a tearoom on the park and their ice cream is lovely although snacks tend to be more expensive than you would normally pay.This is a great day out for all the family
