We have been going to 56th Market in our neighborhood for over 10 years now. It's the best sort of neighborhood market -- one that feels quintessentially a part of the neighborhood. It's early Saturday morning as I type. We are out of milk and coffee is calling. Gonna scoot up real quick and grab it instead of going all the way to the store. I know they'll be open on time, I know they'll have what I need, I know that it'll be a little more than the grocery store but just a tad -- not a massive up charge. I know the face behind the counter. They'll likely know me. And I know they'll be warm, friendly, and welcoming. What a gift in an increasingly distant age to know and be welcomed while doing something as simple as buying some milk. read more

I stopped in to by a beverage when I was in the neighborhood & forgot my water bottle. Most of the items were not priced. When I asked for prices of the beverages, the owner told me to pick out what I wanted and bring it to the register to learn the price. I wanted to compare prices so I did not over spend. The owner could not recall the prices of the beverages. I ended up picking out a kombucha and I think I paid $7, which is outrageously high. If I would have been able to view the prices I probably would have picked the least expensive bottle of water. I really wanted to get out of there so paid the $7. My friend who works in this neighborhood says that she never goes to this store due to lack of pricing. If it's not a business where you can bargain the price, the prices should be listed. Everything everyone else said! All kinds of amazing stuff in here! Food and household basics, plus new things to try. The ice cream truck can be hard to chase down, but there are plenty of cold treats in here. No shoes, no problem - my Yelp profile picture was taken here. Actually, these days you can shop barefoot at any large or small convenience store or grocery store in Seattle without any trouble (except for just one which I reviewed awhile ago). I'm not sure why grocery stores have become more accepting of this during the last 10 years or so, but it seems to have happened. Shortly after this market opened in my neighborhood, the owners complimented me and several barefoot kids I had with me on our healthy choice to go barefoot. This was a pleasant find and it ain't no regular mini market. When I first stepped inside, at first it did feel like just another mini mart with the usual junk snacks, mainstream beverages, and basic auto & household stuff. But just a look here, a glance there and you'll notice things that aren't common. My nifty find among their decent selection of regular and vegan goods was a Himalayan pink salt shaker (usually mini marts _might_ have a processed table salt or few). And then just when I thought I was ready to head out, the sweet timing of eavesdropping worked perfectly. I'd overheard a nice conversation the next aisle over with a customer and owner that mentioned a chai(!). Apparently, they serve chai on Fridays for customers?! Suh-weet! Unfortunately, while I'm sure it's probably really good, I stopped drinking milk from animals. If you try it, let me know how it is! They seem like wonderful people, as well. Went here a couple days ago and they had a great selection and friendly staff, but their Covid protocols are very loose given the current indoor mask mandate in place. The man working was not wearing a mask about 90% of the time while walking around the store. Maybe outside of Covid times I would return as it seems like a nice place. read more

The family who own this store are so kind and wonderful! The store is always clean, well stocked, and the prices are very reasonable for a corner market. They are always friendly & offer my dog a treat. My son likes to stop by after school sometimes for a yummy treat. It would be super if the a-holes who keep vandalizing this place could move on, as they definitely don't deserve it. read more

This is a neighborhood institution. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and they love all the dogs in the neighborhood who are welcome to enter the store and get a milkbone. And this is not your run of the mill grocery store. You can snag fruits and veggies here and they have a lotnof organic and ethnic foods as well. And if course, a great selection of beer and wine. We find ourselves in here several times a week and I'll even pop in and buy something I don't need just so my pup can get a bone. read more

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the 56th Street Market is more than an average convenience store. While it has the basic layout of one, it also offers a lot of organic, eco-friendly products. The prices on fun stuff, like organic ginger beer and dry soda, were comparable to big chain stores. I wouldn't do regular grocery shopping here as it is definitely more convenience store than Whole Foods, but this place fits Tangletown's need for a funky, charming corner shop. Also, the woman at the counter was beyond sweet to both me and a group of teenage boys in front of me in line. read more

I work a block away, so it's nice to be able to dash down here for anything I decide I have to have during the day -- coffee, soda, candy, cigarettes, macaroni & cheese -- you know the place. Just a no-frills bodega with the basics covered. Wouldn't shop here for staples, as the price is a little high, but I think this was a good down-to-earth addition to the neighborhood, and I hope they stick around. If it matters, the family that runs it is really sweet, too. read more

Favorite neighborhood market. They always have an excellent selection and are the friendliest. They carry everything you think you need and more! Organic foods, kombucha, birthday cards, etc. if they don't carry something you want, you can request it. This is a great neighborhood bodega. The owners are friendly and always willing to accommodate special request or orders. They know our family and give the kids free candy on occasional visits. They carry an entire aisle of boxed/canned/bagged organic/natural food that regularly saves us in a pinch, and they have an amazing array of items throughout the store. The predecessor had much more atmosphere but lacked variety of items and often when we stopped there for something, they were out of it. This rarely if ever happens under the new owner. We feel lucky to have them in the neighborhood, and if by chance you ever visit when the wife makes her homemade chai tea - try it, it is amazing! read more
