My son and his best friend have been nagging me for YEARS to come here so my wife and i did yesterday. My single, nagging question is "What took me so long??" No idea. The store's far larger than I'd imagined and carries far more stuff. The produce dept. got me right away when I found GREEN lemongrass (almost impossible to find in my county), black garlic, large fresh ginger--and garlic scapes (they call it spring garlic). I was especially hoping to find garlic scapes since I just discovered them and have already found a great stir-fry recipe for them. A also bought some soy sauces along with an XO sauce that are hard to find in regular supermarkets. Yes, I already have stir-fry plans for all of them. There's far more food stuff I could've bought but the question that decided me against it was "Who else in the house will eat it other than me?" The meats pre-sliced for Korean/Japanese dishes tempted me but were pricey. Besides I own a meat slicer. The one thing I didn't find which was my sole disappoint was Shaoxing wine, a Chinese rice win. They carried the cooking version but not the drinking one. Contrast that with shelves filled with Japanese sakes. I prefer Shaoxing for stir-fry dishes and already have some at home so the disappoint wasn't too great. We rarely get to Seattle so it'll be a while until we re-visit the store. The good news is that a new Uwajimaya will open in Tacoma next year. We plan to shop there a lot more often. Definitely a store worth visiting even if you don't cook Asian dishes. they carry all kinds of cooking stuff--including woks, rice makers, and lots of gadgets. Our son's friend even bought travel chopsticks. I told him he'll be required to whip those out at our next Chinese stir-fry dinner. He better like black garlic and garlic scapes. read more

Uwajimaya has to be the largest, cleanest, and nicest Asian grocery stores I've ever been in and I'm jealous this isn't local to me! Also wish I didn't discover it my last night in town because I would have stopped in almost everyday. Huge selection - from health & beauty, dishes, alcohol, prepared food, and just about everything you can imagine from the food side (pantry and fresh). Large produce selection with a lot of items you can't easily find in an "everyday American" grocery store. I also loved they carried salad mixes. The meat and seafood area had great selection and was so clean and fresh! The pantry type items also had an incredible selection. I wish I could have stocked up on so many things. For a quick lunch or dinner, stop by and try some of their prepared food items - great selection and I felt reasonable prices. I loved browsing all the aisles and was so inspired to want to make a delicious meal. Since I was traveling, I could only pick up a few items! Uwajimaya in Seattle is a cool Asian market with a lot to check out. They have a big selection of groceries, snacks, and specialty items i hadn't seen in other Asian markets. The fresh seafood and produce sections are good, and the gift area had a good variety of anime and Hello Kitty stuff. There's also a food court with a few good options if you're hungry. It can get busy, especially on weekends, but it's fun to walk around. Worth a visit if you're in the area or looking for something different. read more

Had a chance to visit this Asian grocery store after going to the Passport Agency in Seattle. Parking was a frickin' hassle, as always at this location. Limited spots and most of them are small spaces. You also have to pay for parking if you do not buy at least $20.00 worth of groceries. Browsed around the store a bit, got some hot to-go foods from the small food court they had and picked up different drinks, buns, frozen foods and instant ramen. The service at the check-out line was smooth and convenient. The employees were friendly and courteous. Selection of items - fruits, produce, pre-made food items are a bit less than the other Uwajimaya locations, though. Prices are almost the same or similar, but less inventory in my opinion. And a bit less crowded inside, at least the time we went. Overall, had a good shopping experience, so no real issues there. Got almost everything that we basically wanted from the store. read more

I get there's a lot of foot traffic at this location but its crippling at this point. I couldn't shop without feeling anxious i was feeling watched. I don't normally purchase my produce here but i picked up a few things to get me through work. Single bell pepper as 3 bucks, the cheapest apple i could find was 2 bucks and the blueberries were almost 11 bucks, very small container at that. i refrained from purchasing them because the sight of their condition was lackluster. Uwajimaya's is Japanese shopping center. It has a variety of different features. You can shop there for your groceries! It also has a food court that has a nice variety of small restaurants. There is also a area to shop, that holds many unique gifts. During certain times of the year they offer fresh roasted chestnuts! It is definitely worth stopping by. Uwajimaya is enormous, like genuinely overwhelming in the best way. You walk in thinking you're just gonna grab a few things, and then suddenly you're standing in front of shelves full of stuff you didn't even know you needed lol. Last night I left with DISHES as if I need more dishes. But anyway - fish and meat quality's been excellent. Got tobiko, wagyu, hamachi, scallop, ama ebi - everything tasted fresh and clean, not a single off smell or weird texture. Super wonderful. Made a few solid meals this week with just what I picked up from there. Didn't need to hit any other store, which is rare. It's expensive, yeah. I def spent $200 this week just in groceries but oh well. The only real annoyance was the mushroom section. Weirdly small + not much variety, which makes no sense for a store this size. Also, PS don't use Instacart for fish. You have to be there to see the cuts yourself. Definitely one of those things you wanna eyeball in person. One of my trips was Instacart and I could 10000% tell the diff in what they picked vs what I picked. Sad bc it saves a lot of time but you rly need to fish shop yourself. Uwajimaya is still great. I visited last Friday am when there aren't that many people shopping. Uwajimaya is pretty much the only place where I could buy Somi no tsuyu - the Japanese soup base my family and I are obsessed with for a really long time. I thought about buying a substitute but broke down and bought the 1L bottle for $25. It lasts a long time but it is so expensive. Some more updates that I discovered during my last visit - beard papa (the cream puff shop) looked like it's closing down? It was covered in a tarp and seemed empty inside. I'd be sad for them to go if that's the case. I also saw that Uwajimaya now offers student discount of 10% on Fridays 6-8 pm. I never go there that late so that's also too bad, but still a nice offer. read more

Asian lifestyle store located in Seattle's Chinatown. When you walk in, the ambiance is like a Whole Foods, very clean and organized, and I'm told the produce is very fresh. Huge store with a food court and rows of gatcha/toy capsule machines, but they are very expensive (some were $10+)! All of the prices in general for my go-to Asian snacks were at a premium, but they have a huge variety. They had a TON of Japanese KitKats, but not a large variety, and their Matcha ones were expiring in 2-3 months instead of 6-9 months like the others, so take a look before you buy. Cashier was friendly, otherwise very little interactions with the staff. I would say 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding down to 3 for these prices. read more

Amazing Japanese supermarket that has been my wife's favorite when she lived here years ago. So many great Japanese and Asian items as well as a great selection of alcoholic beverages which made it a great tailgating spot before a Seahawks game as we had some mochi donuts and taiyaki waffles from the food court. I'm sorry but this upset me. Went to uwajimaya for an onigiri. They are pretty small here but wasn't complaining. They don't package them properly so the nori sheet never comes out properly and breaks. Again not complaining yet. But to see the sad amount of "filling" used, very upsetting. The store is clean and bright, and everything is well-organized, making it easy to navigate. It's also super convenient since it's located right by the bus and light rail station. As expected, they have a great selection of Asian ingredients, but what I really like is their sushi and sashimi station--it's perfect for a quick bite. They also have some tasty hot grab-and-go meals if you're in a rush. I was working in the area and stopped by for lunch, then swung by again after work to check out the Chinese food section. I spotted the roasted crispy pork on display (I believe it was $14.99 per pound), so I grabbed 2 lbs to take home. It stayed crispy for a good portion of the day. A group of us stopped by during a vacation trip and got a bunch of prepared foods to make a potluck style dinner. My mom and I always go to Uwajimaya. It's our go to spot. We like how clean this grocery store is and everything is fresh. The people here is always awesome to interact with whether it's the cashiers to the deli to the seafood area. One of the things that we always get is the duck or barbecue pork or roasted pork. Secondly we always get the pokey and then eat it with our salad and it's a quick nutritious meal. I know it's not the least expensive place, but the quality is there and the service is awesome. Uwajimaya has had a big interior remodel since we first started coming here. The two side stores have changed (that's old news but still) and it's a chocolate place and something else I can't remember now (Sorry). The floor plan has widened, it feels like, for food items, although they still have non-food on the right/north side. Gigantic selection. You really could spend hours in here. Parking validation of 2 hours if you spend 20 dollars. Even so parking is reasonable. The cashiers are always very helpful and nice. We like to grab their ready-to-eat savory and sweet items and occasional ingredients for cooking. They also have a very nicely laid out liquor section with focus on sake. read more

This is my first time ever being in a Uwajimaya supermarket before and I have to say I am so impressed with the selection of items and food they have in this place. I wish they had a supermarket like this in my area and maybe one day they will branch out to other places! The selection of fresh seafood here looked amazing! I have been going to Uwajimaya for over 40 years. I love the fact that the store is clean and uncluttered, brightly lit, not smelly due to the fresh seafood section, the aisles are wide and the produce is very fresh. They also sell kitchenware, gifts and Asian beauty products. As an added bonus they have Senior Tuesdays - if you're 60 and older you get a 10% discount if you shop from open to 11am; and College Night - if you're enrolled in college, get a 10% discount if you shop on Fridays from 6pm to closing.
