Price wise, not my first choice for shopping but sometimes I am tasked with coming to PCC for a particular item, deal or otherwise offer. The store is nicely laid out, very similar to a Whole Foods. The produce is where the entrance is and I like how each time I've come the produce is being looked over, stocked and someone is on standby for questions about the availability of things in that area. There is a seafood counter that is usually attended by a couple of people then the aisles are horizontal with the registers. There is self-checkout with someone managing that and a few manned registers. The staff in this area always nice and helpful. Which as a given is really nice. The store seems to be well staffed overall, but you'll likely have to have to go toward the front end if any help is needed seeing as how the store is so neatly and well stocked. I don't really see staff stocking in the middle of the day. Again, PCC is not my first choice but if your income supports it, this is a nice store, with friendly staff and within the Ballard Blocks so you can make more than one stop without even having to leave the parking lot. read more

I like the store and appreciate their scrutiny of ingredients, BUT I HATE THE BATHROOM ARRANGEMENT. They have a gender friendly bathroom, which means that you're in a room, in a stall, at your most personal and private moments, and when you step out of the stall, you could be standing next to a person of the opposite sex... As a woman, I find this rather disconcerting. I stepped out of a stall to see a huge man standing at the sink. This is rather disconcerting. It doesn't feel safe, and doesn't respect my privacy. A man must have designed this. Please rectify this. read more

Wanted to pop in and give a shout out specifically to the PCC cheese counter, which has been killing it this year! I've been on a kick of trying new cheeses this year and PCC always has the most wonderful variety of small offcuts of cheeses so that I can try a small amount of a new one. This place is a giant warehouse-- such incredible waste of floor space- in places, 8 ft between aisles and a whole block from one corner to the other. I went in for one thing- "Oh since I toured a gym, I will go look at this PCC and get tofu". Wel, heckeroonis- they didnt have any. I walked all over the warehouse. Decided to use my membership deal for some money off vegs. I grab them and go to checkout- everything I tried to self-scan the staff had to help me with. "Oh, it's a little wonkie' EVERYTHING "Just a minute" I wanted to just leave. But I had eaten bites from a cookie .We get to end and it didn't put in my discount. I was directed to another cash register to ring things up !!!- 20 minutes and I came for something they don't have and still cant ring things up. When considering the unused floor space which makes this PCC a giant maze hive to get anything done and how rent is based on square footage-- itis a giant money drain. The space should be re-organized and a huge corner could be rented out to a boobly-tea place, an insurance company, a pet store, a Taco Time -- anything but pay for empty floor and air. read more

Major points for the bulk section, though not as comprehensive as some other PCC. Being able to bring your container is another win. It allows you to reduce the burden on the environment. I bring reusable vegetable bags with me whenever I shop. A very good selection of better quality produce; don't skip the cheese section! and lots of niche products that will keep you coming back. Prices... Are high, it's Ballard, and you are paying for what is supposed to be better-sourced food products. That's the price we pay in today's society for better food. The down-side. I run an errand near this PCC regularly. Sometimes early in the morning and twice I've bought a meal. The first time was from the hot bar. As a vegetarian, I appreciate the options. I had the frittata, which was dry, tasteless, and unappealing, even with hot sauce. I ate about half and gave up. The cheddar biscuit was similarly tasteless. Today I bought a bagel, cream cheese, and coffee. As a lifelong bagel enthusiast from NY, this one rated below the lowest mass-produced store-bought. It was tough and chewy to the point I needed to dip it in my coffee to make it edible. read more

The CCCP is the grocery store industry's answer to REI, a socialized feed store for humans who like to be seen while shopping for their keto meal plans. I shop here for their verde-something-or-other breakfast burrito but, if you're into people watching, the CCCP is the best place to catch a glimpse of the Common LuLuWoman in her natural habitat. Their species flocks to this fashionable location like ants to sugar. Just the other day, I witnessed a LuLuWo perform a perfect downward timid pineapple pose near a wine endcap while narrating on her earbuds her perfectly framed TikTok without spilling her basket! Granted, it was mostly empty, but daaang, amazeballs. I digress. Lovely store, great produce, prices a true socialist would cringe at (but you get your annual dividend!), and a bomber breakfast burrito wrapped up super tight in a flour tortilla like overpriced yoga garb. read more

A beautiful building, new, bright and clean. The space takes a moment to get used to - by way of organization and finding what you are in search/need of, but it's lovely. Our first visit to the market that opened a couple of months prior, we enjoyed the unknown, giving us more reason to wander the aisles and discover the store's set-up. The same polite service and quality ingredients one can expect at any PCC, paired with the cleanliness and vibrancy of any new space. Samples of the tastiest heirloom navel oranges were cut in front of our eyes, juice dripping down the hands of the employee offering them, drops making a small puddle on the floor. Parking available - although busy, so you may have to wait - just outside. Accessible within a couple of blocks from Leary Way/15th bus stops. It's worth a visit. read more

As one of their newer locations in recent years, I think it was a welcome addition to Ballard. The design is nice & clean, spacious & airy, and bright yet balanced with some pleasantly dark/contrast elements of wood & metal. If I had to nit-pick, more color instead of the "sterile modern" would be ideal; especially on the exterior (thinking about the Aurora location artwork and the old Seward Park earthy tones + fun canopy motif). The ceiling is quite clean & appealing which is a nice breath of fresh air compared to the West Seattle location (the ceiling looks "unfinished"). Navigating the aisles is smooth & good. You can even wander the comfy rooftop. Good landscaping. I usually get any rotation of good, simple & healthy-esque staples: produce, plant milks, snacks/munchies and hot/cold bar fixes. Staff has been generally pleasant & friendly. Location is super decent for the area (I do admit that the New Seasons Market old location down the way is missed for an awesome store). Parking on the lot is a bit compact so please be aware/courteous if you're hauling around large cars/trucks. Nearby grocery (such as TJ's) can be friendly competition &/or just another convenient option for saving a trip. Speaking of saving a trip, you can accomplish lots of activities/errands within walking distance here. Thumbs up! read more

The PCC Ballard location is new and a beautiful space. There's a large premade food section including pizza, salad bar, sandwiches, and ready to made meals, My favorite item found at PCC is the Whidbey Island brand ice cream in the cherry chocotopus flavor - so good. If I could request one item it would be lactose free Greek yogurt for my wife. PCC has siggis lactose free yogurt but it's not Greek Yogurt. Fage has a lactose free version that's great. Note, there's a parking lot that gets a little busy and the spaces are tight but generally parking isn't too difficult. read more

I don't normally visit PCC given the abundance of other options in the Ballard area, but I have recently starting eating a more plant-based diet, and the store stocks the icelandic oatmilk skyr (yogurt) that I have been wanting to try. My intent was to stock up and buy many, but I was dismayed to find that most of the yogurts were near expiration with one flavor past expiration. I am surprised that a grocery store that prides itself on quality products would let expired items remain on the shelf. I also brought a few items from the bulk section and pitaya (dragonfruit) from the frozen section which was marked as on sale. When I went to the checkout, I elected the regular checkout with a person scanning the items. Usually, I prefer having a personal interaction as opposed to tapping a digital screen and struggling to self checkout with all the non-barcoded items I typically purchase. Not today. I have never received such poor treatment by a cashier before. When I pointed out two times that the pitaya was not reflecting the discount price, she acted like I was an idiot and insisted that the sale price would show up when the total was calculated. When she finished scanning items and the total was calculated.. the sale price still did not show up. I pointed it out for a third time and asked for a price check, saying that the scanned price did not match the advertised sale price on the sign. She begrudgingly asked a coworker to go check. Trying to be polite as we waited for her coworker to return, I apologized for the inconvenience and thanked her for sending her coworker to confirm the price. I was met with.. stoney silence. Her coworker returned confirming the sale price which the system hadn't properly accounted for. The cashier entered a manual price correction to fix the overcharge and said little else. Overall, the situation was handled from a numbers perspective, but the customer service aspect was severely lacking. I left the store feeling bitter and sad. If you have to shop here for a certain product selection, I'd advise avoiding the condescending/rude cashiers and opting for the self checkout. read more

I've been here twice since their opening last week. It's about a 15 minute walk from my office. When you walk in there is a giant octopus to greet you from above. You walk into baked goods section that looks divine and an impressive produce department. I ventured back into the bulk section today. It looks like they have everything a foodie could need they have plenty of prepared food options. I've enjoyed both soup and a sandwich. Best part is their AWESOME ROOF TOP DECK! What a fun place to eat lunch and recharge my "solar panels" when the sun is out! read more

I'm lucky to have both a health club and my physical therapist in the neighborhood so I can drop by this PCC to grab a balsamic vinegar roast chicken and the Fougasse Ciabatta. The staff, except for one odd exception, do go out of their way to be helpful. Yesterday was a noteworthy example. The past two times I've walked in, the Fougasse Ciabatta (Boulart brand) sitting behind glass in the coffee area has been sold out. I asked the young woman working in this section why this PCC didn't order more from the bakery which delivers the olive ciabatta daily. She didn't seem to know that, as one of her co-workers pointed out to me a few minutes later, that they had frozen olive ciabatta in back. In fact, the olive ciabatta is delivered frozen and actually shipped from Quebec. Another PCC staff person explained to me that none of the breads, including the Macrina, are actually baked the same day. They are, in fact, he said, baked the previous evening in large batches to be delivered around the City. This information "solves" the mystery of why Seattle bread (PCC, Metropolitan...) doesn't taste the same as bread purchased in a boulangerie in France: it's probably 18-24 hours old! Unlike France, where even the small boulangeries bake their bread continuously throughout the day, in the U.S., with its emphasis on mass production lines, this is rarely done. In fact, I don't even know if such bakeries exist at all. Perhaps the Essential Bakery outlet in Fremont, which is more than a distribution/retail point, has fresh baked bread. The third PCC staff person was very helpful (you wouldn't be able to find someone at Metropolitan, etc. who understands and has the time to explain the retail bakery system here in Seattle). Smaller bakeries, he suggested, have closed shop due to competition from the chain-line bakeries. When you're paying "top dollar" for bread, it seems insane that you can't get it "fresh." I haven't been to the Macrina on 2nd Avenue in Belltown in 10+ years, but I recall that they breads tasted as they had been baked on the premises and only hours earlier. I once worked at Grand Central Bakery in Pioneer Square. All the bread and pastries were baked the same day and "on location." It doesn't seem like much "progress" when Seattle has such mediocre bread. No wonder Boulart in Quebec can ship (air freight) frozen bread almost across the North American continent: there is a paucity of decent bread. The Macrina bread at PCC is wrapped in cellophane, air-tight, which results in there being no crust. (apparently, customers prefer this, due to the Covid-19 crisis). ***** The second PCC staff person actually went into the freezer section and pulled a loaf of olive ciabatta. It only took a couple of hours to de-thaw. I would let it sit out for another few hours, as it wasn't "croustillant," at the French say. But it was delicious (and expensive, at $5 for about 12 ounces). ***** Staff are consistently relaxed, friendly and helpful, which makes grocery shopping (which I am not very fond of) less of a pain. Wide aisles, high ceilings, quality produce and groceries (plus a roof-top terrace), and unharried staff in an interesting location off the Canal make this PCC a really good place to shop. The cafe section is open but seems forlorn, the bar next to it being closed. The sandwiches are premade earlier in the day but the staff can heat them up. The pizza I do find unappetizing. The food sitting in heated steel trays, though I haven't tasted it yet, seems like not such a good idea, but maybe that has to do with my experience eating in cafeterias. A large part of the row of prepared food in the middle of the store is a copious selection of salads. As we head into autumn and winter, it would be nice to have a greater selection of hot food (including the taco and sandwich bars, built from scratch). read more

Got coupons from PCC in the mail and decided to check out the grocery store. The exterior design looks great and very welcoming with spacious parking lot and garage. Entering the store, everything is neatly organized and pleasing to the eyes. The store looks very clean and spaced out. All the produce here are organic and a bit pricier than regular grocery stores. Some of the produce does not look fresh and seems like it has been sitting out for a while. A lot of the organic apples are very small in size. This store has a lot of gluten free products and brands that I have never seen before. I probably won't return to this store due to the limited packaged meat selection and expensive produces that quality does not fit the price. This would be a great grocery store for individuals who only purchases organic produces and gluten-free options. read more

I do most of my grocery shopping here and find it to be a great experience. The octopus sculpture right inside the building is absolutely stunning, as is the entire store. The produce is absolutely fantastic and the sandwiches and pizzas are a big hit. I'd say I get them almost weekly! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Any time I have called about something, someone is there to help me quickly. Ballard gets a bit of a bad rap but this store is definitely a bright spot! read more

I can't believe their produce is always rotting! I usually shop for fruits and veggies at Top Banana (shameless plug) but the few times I forget to grab a few things and I'm at PCC I make the mistake of buying their terrible products. I have gotten their ready to eat fruit containers and they've gone bad within a day of purchasing. Most recently I bought 4 organic oranges and they had a bunch of mold within 2 days! I like their desserts but I don't think their prices reflect the quality for just about everything else. read more

I just bought a 6pack of Reuben's Crikey IPA at the beautiful and calming Ballard PCC, because it was at 20% discount. But I should have realized: the discount brought the cost down to $1 north of the regular price for Crikey at TJ's. I wonder why PCC doesn't meet TJ's price on beer and other items that are literally the same item (this would build trust and other good feelings) but continue charging more for foods where PCC's higher cost is justified by the "buy local and organic" name that PCC has made for itself. read more

Wow! Attended the Grand Opening today and was really happy to do so! Instead of a ribbon cutting, there was a cutting of winter squash, along with complimentary coffee from Tony's, mini donuts from Mighty-O, and a live band playing as well. There will be more grand openings for this growing chain I'm sure -- get on their email list so you don't miss the next one (that was my strategy, at least). Inside, were wonderful samples of pumpkin pie, Autumnal orzo salad, cheese, sausage, apples, etc. In the beauty section there were samples of soap and different shampoos and facial creams (for my 2 year, I snagged wonderful samples of a children's shampoo and detangler from a local company in Bellevue called Gabriel's, who knew)?! The store is beautifully laid out. We wound up just buying a few things, but the highlight was a bag of satsuma mandarins! I have never had such juicy citrus! Here was the highlight of my trip here: THE ROOF!! There is a wonderful living roof with roughly 50 seats and even more room for standing, with wonderful views of the Ballard Bridge and water. Lastly, parking was a breeze!!! The garage is spacious!!! I have stopped even trying to park in the Ballard Blocks II garage -- but they got it right here! Pro tips: 1) It is not advertised, but children are welcome to choose any piece of fruit for themselves 2) If you become a member of PCC, you can get a 10% discount once a month. read more

Truly terrible customer service, discriminatory, judgmental and just an awful shopping experience. I had my service dog who is trained to alert me for an an anxiety attack strapped to my chest, per the service she provides, when I was stopped and questioned by what appeared to be a manager. Mind you, Mia was doing her job, being quiet, just sitting there - the manager asked if she was a service dog, I said yes, then she said "I'm pretty sure they're supposed to be on leash" - and I said "no, she needs to be close to the body for anxiety" - the woman did not believe me and told me "so you know for next time". I didn't feel like arguing so I just continued shopping, but was met with judgmental eyes from everyone there. Maybe it was because I had messy hair and didn't look like the other fancy white folk there. Who knows. All I know is that I will never ever be back. Horrible. read more

I love this store! I am a long time PCC member and always like shopping PCC, but the new Ballard is exceptional! It is beautiful inside, very spacious and well laid out. The quality of the produce is always great and there are lots of grab and go items like pizza, a taqueria and grain bowl station plus the hot bar with yummy PCC fresh cooked items and a large salad bar as well. And the butcher shop, wow! It was hard to choose and now I can hardly wait to cook up the marinated carne asada. The bulk section is great and I love that they have their compostable plastic containers over there to use so I don't have bags to throw out. When I was shopping near the wine there was a lady, I think one of the chefs from PCC's cooking school, who was handing out samples of bite-sized collard wraps with Thai ingredients like peanuts, coconut, scallion, cinnamon sauce, lime and I'm not sure what else but it was yummy! The day it opened I stopped by after work and tried the cioppino and a glass of wine in their little bar/restaurant area - it was heavenly. It came with bread and the best butter. One person advised "it's on the other side of the store ", and went on stocking. Another said, "if we have it, it may be in bulk section ", and turned away. I love PCC but there's one thing that is pretty disturbing. I am vegan, FULL VEGAN, and the vegan cookies are touching the dairy cookies. I know this may seem strange for someone who isn't vegan, but it makes a difference when you do not eat dairy. I do not agree to have dairy touching vegan cookies. This is disgusting. That's all. I like how the store is spread out. The parking gets full and compact and the traffic gets pretty tricky when people are turning in and out of the Ross/ Trader Joe parking garage. This PCC caters more to takeout and quick service high end food than actual groceries. I was surprised how spread out things were and there were fewer choices (produce and groceries) than other PCC locations. This place is good if you are getting food to go. The food and MOST of the customer service is very good. In fact, through all of the PCC stores, I think over 95% of the customer care is excellent; 5 starts. Food is 4.5 stars. The deli selections are generally very good, but unfortunately many still have sugar and gluten, both not tolerated by my husband. PCC prices are among the most expensive of the several markets I go to. There are a few products I like to get at PCC because I don't see them in other chains. Most of my issue with PCC is from Corporate policies and changes over the years. I've been a PCC member for decades. The benefits to members used to be outstanding. Last year was the first year they trashed it. They got rid of the monthly 10% discount, soup punch cards, and various other frequent discounts for members. Now it is 2% of the purchases. When I did the math, I realized I was being massively ripped off from what it was. Now there is a "rebate" aka dividend from last year's purchases. Recently, I shopped at the Ballard PCC and chose NOT to use the dividend, because I want to get an actual check, instead of credit for purchases. Per corporate policy, members can only get the dividend as a check after August 1, 2021. The cashier looked up my account, and told me I had to use the dividend. I told him I didn't want to, and said that the policy is right there on the PCC website. He actually argued with me. He said that he thought he should ask his manager. I stood my ground, and eventually, he caved in and let me pay. Given the dismally tiny dividend (ie "reward") given to members, it makes no sense to a. give much of my business to PCC and b. bother to use my phone number when paying, because the hassle outweighs the reward. Bottom line, I will still buy a few things there, but spread my grocery dollars among several other local stores instead of a disproportionate amount at PCC. read more

2.5 Stars for the great individuals who I've interacted with at PCC over the years. I've spending my money at PCC almost daily for 14 years. I've always lived and worked near one. I moved out of town a few years ago and missed the friendly faces at PCC. I am a member owner. Lots of the employees are friendly, but I've noticed a change in the store. Maybe it's the way it's run, it feels more corporate. I went to the Ballard store the day it opened. It's a beautiful building. There's something missing, I think the new corporate atmosphere has influenced what kind of people are hired and the general soul of the store. I was assistant general manager of a health food store (of the same size) in London, I also managed a large food delivery company in London, I calmed the very famous, frustrated clients, when anything went wrong with their orders, I know it's stressful work. Nevertheless the manager handled my request today very poorly. Maybe inexperienced, or maybe badly trained. That was corporate customer service, and not even a good corporate cs experience. Come to think of it PCC, how many women, and people of color do you have as managers? PCC is no longer the people-centered store that it was. The Good news is that Trader Joe's around the corner has friendly, down home, people-centric customer service. That's where I'm going. read more

I lost a little tiny metal chip to my card and was looking for it in the checkout line. There was one other customer, and he already checked out so there's plenty of time to look for my money that fell on the ground however, the cashier said she would appreciate it if I leave so I asked her to get a manager. Tim the manager didn't believe that I lost my little chip on the ground, and was laughing at me looking for it, calling me crazy and threatening to trespass me from the store if I didn't leave. Another manager called on the telephone a few days later, explaining that they found my chip. So it looks like I'm not crazy after all. Thanks for insulting me and calling the police. You would think that since Tim decorates his work dress with "Gay Pride" pins that he would be a happy employee looking to make the customers happy, creating a welcoming environment. That is not the case at all. I don't even care if you guys give me a discount or give me coupons or whatever I'm never coming back to the store with the hostile environment that Tim creates. read more

I've been in a few times. Great location. Beautiful store. Excellent parking. They do an above average job of sanitizing carts and ensuring customers are following CDC guidelines. Disposable gloves are provided @ the entrance. I believe masks are too but not 100% sure. Employees are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and seem to take pride in customer service and the store in general. They have a great personal care section that is reasonably priced with a good selection. I wasn't impressed with the produce section. It's displayed nicely but prices are high and quality was disappointing; I purchased yellow cherries that had quite a few that were either bad or would be bad the next day, were pretty small and way overpriced. Same with the avacados; small and way overpriced. One of four had rotten spots inside and had to be discarded. The other three were so ripe they needed to be eaten the next day or discarded. The deli counter is beautifully laid out but, again, overpriced and quality was awful. I purchased steak salad which was so heavily saturated with lime marinade it actually left sores in my mouth. PCC seems like the kind of place that would offer exchanges or refunds but, personally, it's just not worth the hassle. Honestly, a nice place to grab a coffee or nutritious snack and take advantage of their 90 minute parking while you run errands at nearby businesses but, for regular grocery shopping, I'm sticking with Fred Meyer or Metropolitian Market. read more

PCC in Ballard started out with wonderful selections on its hot bar. Sadly, that has deteriorated every time we have gone back for dinner. We arrive between 5 and 5:45, and the food choices are empty or half full of old dried food. We asked a checker if there was a time when the hot bar was fresh and full so we could time our arrival for then. He said the answer was no because the staff was always busy and didn't have time to keep up with the hot bar. Huh? Aren't they there to serve all their customers' needs? Last night was the fourth time we've been disappointed and we left for the Ballard Market. We won't be going back to the Ballard PCC. read more
