I've tried their durags, hair oils, sprays, and body soaps. I especially enjoy that they always have a little bit of everything, from Blistex/Carmex to rose waters, to grapeseed oil/argan oil, and body soaps I like to try out. The space is somewhat medium sized and overall clean. Customer service is good. Parking is easy. Overall, I'd recommend! Very poor service. I was there last week and got a very good service from a younger sales person and bought a wig. Today I went the the older sales person didn't even greet or welcome me. She won't let me try on a wig till a give her $1 for the wig cap. Most places will just add it to the wig price when you purchase. She was very rude. This not how to deal with customer. read more

I decided to try a wig for an upcoming vacation instead of braiding my hair. My sister and I decided to meet at 5th Avenue Beauty early (10AM) on one of her days off to find a wig and then have some fun girls' shopping. Store opened at 10:30 so no problem. We were greeted as we walked in, owner not in the best mood. From the moment we took 2 mannequins to her counter to try-on, we got nothing but grief and attitude from behind the counter. I failed to understand the hostility until we left and my sister explained this is the way Asians treat African-Americans as opposed to whites?? I've come here a few times within the past 6 months or so, and every visit has been great. When I walk in, there's always a friendly greeting. The shop is always bright and clean, and if I need help, there is someone available to help me find what I need. Extremely disappointed with the customer service (or lack thereof) at this beauty supply store. I bought a pack of hair in March and asked before I purchased it if I could return it. They said they don't do refunds but I could exchange or get store credit. The woman didn't say a max time frame for an exchange. I ended up not using the hair and didn't even open it. I went in today to exchange it, and a different woman said I could not exchange it because of the date I bought it. Here's my issue: they are misleading with their policies. If you're not going to offer exchanges, make that clear. If you're going to offer exchanges, make it clear how much time you have to exchange items. I ended up purchasing a new item and she compared both receipts to me showing how it said they allow exchanges within 7 days. That info was on the new receipt but not on the old one. She also said that before they didn't allow exchanges but they did it as a courtesy for their customers (hence why exchange info wasn't on the receipt). To me, you can't possibly value your customers by choosing what policies to enforce whenever or change whenever. I went to purchase hair on 2/25 around 2:30pm and I went to get some crochet locs that were marked for $7.99, when I got to the register they came up for $8.99. The cashier Freeda said that someone made a mistake with marking it down. We get into a back and forth and she took my hair back. Literally took it from my hands and said that she would get in trouble if she sold me the hair. I said that it's not MY FAULT that the hair was marked for a certain price. THEY made the mistake. Then they said that they couldnt call the manager, then said the manager wasnt there until tomorrow then said the manager would be there today. Freeda kept giving me different answers. I've recently discovered that this place is selling old products, especially hair color. They are a little over priced but I overlooked it due to the fact that it is a very convenient location. The lady refused to give me a refund for old dye that I purchased and then asked me did I use it properly. She later asked if I could give her more information on the product so she could get rid of that particular stock. Do you not have someone that's managing inventory. I guess it's not an issue until it's actually an issue. Anyway, I will not spend any more of my money in this establishment. I suggest that you do your research before shopping here. This place has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE! I have never been chased out of a store because one of the staff wanted to leave so badly. I came into the store before closing time, I'm shopping then all of a sudden one of the staff members is screaming at the customers to get out. It was literally 30 seconds passed closing time and she turned off the lights and screamed that the register is closing. While I was trying to ask her a question, she was being so rude and ignored me. How do you chase paying customers out just because you wanted to leave? What is customer service anymore? I've been here a few times...but today must have been a "we don't feel like doing any type of customer service whatsoever" kind of day. So I got what I needed, paid and left. So I had to go back today...I didn't check in. But I got a warm "hello" from the lady who was working the counter while eating her ice cream cone...smh but anyway, I went back to get more hair to finish my crochets. Buyer Beware! I purchased a beauty product from "5th Avenue Beauty Discount" store which I suspected I was being considerable overcharged. Therefore, I immediately went home to research the price for the product on the web, which I should have done prior to making the purchase. I discovered that I was overcharge 77% of the MSRP for the product. I refuse to be overcharged 77%, even for the sake of convenience. As such, I immediately went back to the store to request a refund. The Asian gentlemen at the store asked me, "what's wrong"? I told him, I was returning the product because it was considerably overpriced. He gave me a refund, with an attitude. I will not patronize this store again and advise others not to do so as well, if they prefer to pay a fair price and not be price gouged. read more

I like this store. They have a wide variety of hair in products for African-American women. Even if they don't have a product that's there if you have a picture of it they'll actually order it. I personally have not had a problem with any of the women in the store with regards to customer service. I can tell you that the women that I have encountered have been pleasant and nice and gave me absolutely great advice. read more

Overall, there is a large section of beauty and hair products to choose from. However, shop around because many items are over priced and can even be found cheaper at the Giant grocery store a few doors down! But in a jam or looking for something specific, they're my go to. The employees usually have an attitude and barely speak when you walk inside, but I often look past this since I'm on a mission to get what I need. I did meet a young lady named Alexis who was very helpful. She took her time to show me the different types of hair, opened them up so I could see the color and feel the texture. The glare from the lights made it almost impossible to get a true idea of the color and texture. I was very grateful for that. It seems as if almost every time I come to this beauty supply, the women that work there are rude and act is if they're not interested in helping you. Most recently, I went in there to get a new latch hook so that I could crochet a client's hair. I very rarely go here nowadays because the ladies always have stank attitudes. However, this time, I was in a rush to get to my client and this place was right around the corner from my house. First of all when I walked in, no one was working the front counter. So I began to walk the aisles to see if I could find a latch hook on my own. I saw a young lady in the back assisting a customer with a wig. I politely asked her, "Excuse me, where are your latch hooks located for crochets?" She responded "At the front counter." I then thanked her and went back to the front counter. When I arrived to the counter, I saw an African woman slouching in a chair and engrossed in whatever she was doing on her phone. She looked at me when a nasty expression and said, "What do you need?" I responded, "How much are your latch hooks?" She responded back, "$2" and went back to her phone. So then I responded (irritated by this point) "Ok well I need one!" She got up, grabbed one and rang it up for me. I paid her and then left. You guys need some SERIOUS TRAINING in CUSTOMER SERVICE. A couple of months ago I was in this store. The sales women were very rude. I asked for a price on a wig. One of the sales ladies, told me she didn't know, then went back to talking to the other sale person, who was on the phone talking to her bank. I heard the whole conversation she had overdrawn on her account. I left the story vowing never to go back. But after hearing nice things about this store, I decided to give it a second chance. So last Saturday I returned to the store and to my surprise the store was packed and the sales people were very friendly and helpful.
