There are lots of smaller car dealerships to choose from, and sometimes it can seem like it's impossible to figure out who to buy from. For us, we located THE truck we wanted, and it just happened to be at 5th Gear Motorz. So, other than a few Yelp reviews (good ones!), we didn't have much to go on. Let me tell you.... our experience was so good that we will look to them for our future used car purchases. And I'm not talking about the experience of a customer that walked in, got a good deal and walked happily into the sunset. No, there is always "that one car" that can have a problem, and where the rubber meets the road is HOW that company supports you AFTER the sale. Especially when buying used. The owner is a master mechanic and checks out all cars to make sure they are sellable beforehand. Good to know. So we got our truck home, and the first thing that happened was it didn't start two days later. We called, and instantly they arranged to get us a new battery. I was impressed. Then, it didn't start again, this time with a new battery that was drained. Wow... OK. They took it in, troubleshot the problem, and thought it was good to go. And then it happened again. Long story short: It took the owner, literally testing each and every circuit to figure out the issue. The starter had worn off in the AUX position, and when you turned off the truck, you could still pull the key out in AUX. Talk about a random, totally difficult thing to diagnose! They promptly bought and installed a new starter --- problem solved, Let me tell you, THESE GUYS STAND BEHIND THEIR SALE. Period. In a day and age where people give less customer service, and don't really care, 5th Gear stands head and shoulders above the rest. I'm sure 99% of all their cars drive off the lot with zero issues... but there's always that ONE vehicle... and we just happened to get it. And they stuck with us, got it solved quickly, and never quit making it right. They've got a loyal customer for life. And we love our truck!! Thanks guys! read more

Here's the reason why I WON'T EVER Go back to 5th gear: We went in, looking for a cheap, older model Honda, or Toyota. A really nice, older guy was helping us, and we were rather sad, that they didn't have any cars that we remotely liked. Along comes the slick owner, or manager with his alligator boots, painted on jeans, leather suit jacket, and slicked back hair, (this sounds like a bad Starsky and Hutch episode, but I swear, it's all true. Go in and ask to meet the manager, so you can see for yourself!) We wanted to leave the lot, but then, when that same manager found out that we had Cash, On Hand, he tried to sell me a car that he bought for his own son! Weird, huh? It got so shady, that the guy said we couldn't even be on the property, to do the deal. Wait. It gets better: I test drive the car, with the salesman. The salesman was yammering about how the manager would NOT buy a car for his son, if there was anything wrong with it... I decided totreat the salesman to a test: I got on Johnson Creek, then took 205 north, to Foster, then drove STRAIGHT to auto zone over on duke, where I asked them to do a free code check. The car came back with a myriad of codes...all bad... one of which was a problem with the torque converter. This is where I looked at the salesman, and he had the NERVE to say, "it's probably an O2 sensor!" I drove as fast as I could, back to the lot, then I told my husband I was dizzy, and hypoglycemic, and needed to get something to eat. Thank you to the food carts across the street!!!! I hope your presence has helped others get out of shady car deals too! I told my husband that was not the car for us, and that I didn't want an ATLAS MOTORS replay, where we agree to purchase a car, then get stuck with thousands in repairs. He agreed. I would say the sales guy was a little pushy, but nice...but, That slick manager? I now have a saying: "When Someone LOOKS like a stereotypical used car salesman...he probably IS a used car salesman." Its called Due Dilligence. If you can't take a used car from 82nd avenue to a mechanic BEFORE you buy it, at LEAST run it by those nice folks at auto zone first. They would be happy to run codes, for FREE! And, three weeks later, we saw the SAME car, across the street from the lot, for sale, by private owner.... Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmm?" I bought a vehicle that was way overpriced and had a lot of problems I did not know about and they didn't tell me. I paid $12,000 and have only had it 9 months and have only put 6,000 miles on it yet I have put $1500 into fixing the problems. I just tried to refinance and found out that it's only worth between $6,600 and $6,836. So far I have bought a vehicle worth $6836 at the most and it's cost me $13,700 + $900 in interest so.. $14,600!!! Buyer BEWARE!!! read more

They sold us a car that had a bad transmission. That car didn't last a year. So we spent almost 4K to get it fixed. Just make sure when you buy from this dealer that you get a warranty. Also we tried calling them about it multiple times, but no answer. read more

We had really high hopes! A vehicle advertised was priced well and seemed to fit our needs perfectly. We live quite a distance from the dealership so I called to ask some questions and was pleased to hear that this was an excellent vehicle with zero issues. "We have two mechanics who go over the cars before they're even put on the lot," the saleswoman said. We fully expected to drive off the lot in that car. Not so much. Unfortunately there were indeed issues, including mechanical issues that had not been addressed, and had we been made aware of them we may not have made the trip until they were dealt with. We didn't leave in that vehicle and felt that our trip to the dealership was a waste of time. We were told that the mechanical and cosmetic things that were wrong would be taken care of, but we still think that they should have been done before we got to the lot, not after we had seen and commented on the defects. It's still possible that we would buy from them but if we ask if a car is in good condition and are told that it is, we sure don't want to find it otherwise when we go to see it. That was our biggest concern and I hope the company and its sales personnel will be more cautious going forward. read more

I bought a Ford Explorer that I originally loved, and my vehicle ran perfectly for almost three months. But then, one day, the entire engine pretty much fell apart. When I took it to a mechanic, he told me that they messed with the parts and replaced some metal valves with rubber hoses, basically just to get the thing running enough to make a sale. The problem is that most people that purchase cars do not have enough knowledge to avoid a scam like this. My husband and I have made several attempts to reach this place, and they have completely and totally ignored all emails and phone calls. I looked in to taking them to small claims court, but after seeking legal counsel, realized that it probably wasn't worth the hassle. I've decided that it might be better just to warn potential suckers to avoid this place, and a local news station is interested to take a look at our car and do a story on it. read more

In my initial review, I suggested that it was worth it for the right car. 5th Gear has proved me wrong.. It has taken 3 months to square up a clerical error, and the GM, Ron, acted like he was doing me a favor by taking responsibility for it, even though he refused to return phone calls, and was reluctant to provide information or the appropriate paperwork. Do not trust 5th Gear with your personal data - I suspect their network is insecure due to the fact that I had a data breach and the information matched what was incorrectly input at the dealership. read more

I've tried several times to get them to call me back regarding a deal that went south and they just wont pick up the phone and call. Since Oct 4, 2015 it's been a bunch of lies. telling me i was financed, giving me a bogus address to send my payments but my favorite is we will call you back. I tried to buy a truck from them but financing didn't happen (they claim it was my low income holding it up tho I think their struggle is more in house) but with all said and done they have yet to call me and tell me the refund from my deposit is ready to be picked up and return the truck. I don't get it. It's like they have abandoned this truck in my driveway and wont follow through with what they say. talked to Matt...Big Rick...Nick and Bill. Not sure what else to do but file complaints on the internet in hopes this will motivate them. ***update...they tried to pass me a deposit refund check in a different first name. i caught it so they crossed it out and wrote my name in and int. it. i wouldn't take it so all of a sudden there was a check writer on the premises and they gave me a new check with my correct name. went straight to their bank and cashed it. think I got lucky that day. The guys took time to try and find me something and were working to sell me a killer car but I was told by my friend to not take anything will a salvaged title. 5th Gear Motorz. The opposite of Integrity. Definition of Integrity: Doing the right thing when no one else is looking. I financed my first truck through these guys. I remember praying for a good first buy experience before I walked in to their property. Right away I noticed the truck I've been wanting and couldn't wait to test drive it. Ricky, now an ex-employee, was my salesman. He was the only good experience I had. the test drive went well other than the fact their was a loud pop noise when I pressed the brake or when I tie right. Prior to purchasing it, they said they would take a look at it and fix it. Well a week or so later After purchasing the truck, I brought it back for a diagnostic and repair. During the diagnostic, the mechanic tried telling me I had to pay, I explain to him that it was already agreed upon that it would be fixed. At that point I was irritated and decided to text my sales guy. He informed me that he was fired and to speak with the manager Bill. I ended up leaving without my truck being fixed that day. The next day, I called to speak with Bill but he was busy and was told he would call me back. Well after several tries of calling him, he eventually said " oh I've been busy but I will tell the mechanic to call you and schedule you in to have it fixed. That call NEVER CAME! So I tried again and Bill said well I told him to call you, I will tell him again. The call still never came. I ended up taking it down to les schwab and they looked over my truck and printed out the issues. I took the papers into 5th gear that day and said I need it fixed like you said you would do. After literally weeks of waiting they fixed my truck..... So I thought... They didn't fix it. And I keep calling and leaving messages but they just ignore me. It's been two months and my truck has got even worse. This first experience has been horrible. Come to find out it's been in a wreck too! I don't even know until the guys at les schwab pointed it out. I still plan on having them fix. I will boycott till it is done. Don't buy from these guys. Went in to look at a 2002 Mazda Protege ad price of almost $3k. Salesman was kind enough to allow test drive, take to mechanic and offered very attractive price. He insisted on doing paperwork before we took to mechanic so we obliged but did not sign dotted line. After driving a while to get to mechanic, the smell from interior detail work affected me and I started losing my voice due to throat irritation (mother and sister were with me and not affected). I am hyper sensitive to chemicals and chemical odors even though other family members are not. I balked at the sale because of this, even though sister was pretty set on buying. I hated to disappoint her but I wanted to see if I could find a similar vehicle that did not affect me the same way. We took the car back to drop off, I told salesman I wanted to look a couple more days and we were thinking fairly hard at buying the car if I did not find anything else. That is when he got too pushy and insisted the special price he stated was only good if we bought right now tonight. I said any reputable dealer would honor a price even a few days later. He said if we left; the price would go back up. I said you just lost a customer. .... Overall I feel bad for my sister and the dealership. I take some responsibility for the frustration on their (dealership) end as I was back and forth on liking the car. I just didn't have that 100% sense of peace and I believe in trust your God and your gut. If they would have been nicer and given customer the freedom to think about a deal they would probably make more sales. We were fairly serious about returning to buy the car if we could not find a better one. They already had paperwork done so it would have been quick and easy to finish the deal. Overall, I have dealt with worse dealers as well as definitely better ones. Sorry they didn't earn our business.... To their credit, the car did seem to check out as a quality used car that I think someone would be happy with. They even offered to take care of some water leaking through the tail-lights (a common problem) at no extra charge.....I think being a salesman is not an easy job so I understand sometimes things can get misconstrued. Overall, they seemed willing to work with us but as it turned out, we found a nice car from private seller the next day that seems to fit my sister well... read more

Dishonest, lazy, incompetent, take your pick! I called about a used minivan with a glorified description on their site, and they basically told me it was in great shape, no problems. They claimed they were too busy to answer specific questions about it over the phone and refused to give me any actual details; said I should come and look at it. So I drove 30 minutes to check it out, and the van was missing all the back seats but 1... a 3 seater van, great! They should have mentioned it on the phone rather than refusing to answer questions, or posted an honest picture showing it was missing seats, or included that important detail in the description. Either way, I lost my morning to this sleazy dealership and thought I'd write a review to save other people from wasting their time. So if they don't answer your questions and they don't have a detailed description or a complete set of photos, don't waste your time with this place. They might have some fine cars there, but I'd rather deal with honest folks. read more

To start with this company used the bait and switch to get me to come in. Telling me they had already ran my credit, when I asked. Which is against the law I find out. Then telling me they approved me on a certain vehicle, and they had not and couldn't put me into that vehicle. So we decided after a lot of pressuring on another vehicle. While signing the paperwork they never once told me my interest rate till after paperwork was signed and I realized it and asked. Then I realized why, it was 29.99%. On the way out the finance manager tells me to make sure not to tell the bank when they call that I they let me pay the rest of my down on the 21st. After having the vehicle for 3+ wks I get a call saying that they have different paperwork for me to sign. I was going thru a serious domestic violence situation, that also occurred in front of my 4 yr old son, at the time and wasn't even allowed to return home for a few days till they could find my Ex. Which I have police and court papers to prove. We set a time for Sunday, which I ended up not being able to make. I called him from work Monday and we reset for Sat, still assuming they just wanted me to sign papers. He then calls me on Tuesday states he has a guy coming to the area and could he come by my work and have me sign. I said yes, and went bk in forth with the guy for hours who couldn't find the place ect. All while I was at work. So we reset for Wed. Wed morn I text the guy tell him all the times for my breaks for the day so we can meet up. His truck breaks down and he misses the first break. Then he's harassing me at work because he cant find the place, says its not there threatening to take my car away if he cant find it. He had the right address but I give him landmarks anyways to find me. I get a call from my daughters school saying she was hurt and I had to leave work and go pick her up. I text him right away tell him where I'm at and let him know he can come to my house. He agrees. Then he shows up to pick up my vehicle and says it cause I'm playing games. No idea how I could in my circumstances done anything different. Now, they wont return the $500 down payment I made, saying they are using as a fee to search for the vehicle. When the whole time I was giving them the information as to where the vehicle was. I had no reason not to, not a clue they were planning on taking it. After all this and trying to talk to Dave on the phone and explaining what my situation the week before with the Domestic Violence, he snickers and says that's my problem not his and hangs up. I call back and ask for the bank name of the bank that did my Loan and am now told there was no bank they were trying to do it in house. read more

So disappointed. I called on a car they had advertised on Craigslist. Verified it was still in stock and some basic questions. Then took a 40 min Uber ride to the dealership to buy the car. When I arrived they told me the car was sold 2 days ago. I told them I had called and what had happened. No apology whatsoever. So now I'm out almost 2 hours of my day and 2 Uber rides. My boyfriend is currently looking to purchase a Truck and he called & spoke to Derick on the phone since we live in Springfield & we didn't want to Drive clear to Portland just to be told No. He gave him all of his pertain ant info and he said he would get him approved for a nice Truck. When we got to the dealership he hadn't even run the credit yet, The DEALER SHIP WAS SUCH A JOKE, There where Cars everywhere, no place to Park. And there where not even any Bathrooms for there customers except portapotties, REALLY!!!!. And when he did finally show the vehicles he said he could get us into, they where pieces of JUNK, & when my Boyfriend told him this wasn't what he was looking for & wouldn't work for him, And my Boyfriend was VERY CLEAR what he was looking for, was a Full size truck and it needed to be a 4x4, he showed him a 1 full size truck but it wasn't even a 4x4, and the other truck he showed was not even a Truck it was one of those SUV's that has the small Beds. That's when Derick got VERY VERY NASTY and started to be verbally inappropriate, started dropping the F word multiple times and calling my boyfriend names.
