This place is a very unassuming from the outside but once you step in it's amazing array of meat, cheese, and friendly faces. I was in town for a week and came twice. I occasionally go to 640 for a sandwich and end up buying a few other items as well. The guy with the beard really takes pride in running the place. He's walked over and offered me samples of various meats that were fresh off the grill while I'm eating my lunch. I've also seen him give children rice crispy treats as a kind gesture while their parents are finishing their food. I really enjoy their 640 Sub and it's definitely a large sandwich full of good quality meats. The service is what has impressed me the most though. Since covid has keep businesses closed or people inside, people may not know of policy changes, especially senior citizens, like my Mom. We have been 320 and 640 customers a very long time, so imagine my Mom's surprise when they had a sign at the register stating "no personal checks". My Mom always uses checks, too scary to carry cash, and one man working there just barked at my Mom that they haven't taken checks since 12/2019...heard of self quarantine? If you make us wear a mask, then you know some people have not been out of the house since 1/2020! Not our problem that you have some dirtbag customers that write bad checks...sorry you got stiffed, but we didn't write a bad check to you...NEVER HAVE! I was on a hunt for a good corned beef sandwich in Rockford. Multiple people suggested this place. Any time I visit a new local place, I always ask what is the one item I shouldnt leave without trying. They told me the brisket and the burger, neither of which I was in the mood for. They smoke the brisket in house and the burgers are homemade. Maybe another day. They didnt have a Chicago style corned beef sandwich, but they did have a Reuben, which was solid, but not exceptional. Factoring in that it was only $5, it was exceptional. If I get it again, I'll probably ask for double meat. I'll give them another try when I'm on a less specific mission. read more

This place is a hidden gem! Burgers and sandwiches are all freshly made-to-order and cheaper than any fast food joint you could go to. Easily one of the best burgers in town, and the sandwiches are stacked high with meat and toppings that would put Subway to shame. They also carry freshly packed sides like potato salad and baked beans in a cooler. The last lunch I purchased here came out to $5.48, including tax!! I absolutely love this place! The meat is always nice and fresh. I go here every year to get my holiday roasts. It is also a place my husband and I will frequent for lunch. We stumbled upon this place and love it. Looking around made us hungry, so we got deli sandwiches there that were so fresh and delicious. The cuts of meat we got for dinner were perfect and reasonably priced, and the guy at the check-out counter was super friendly and helpful, making conversation about our dog when he saw we were getting dog bones. This market has a variety of brats and I have tried a few of them. By variety, I mean they have several different flavors and ingredients added such as mango, habernaro, jalapeno, "cheddar", strawberry feta, blueberry chipolte, cheetos, funyuns...you get the idea. Problem is, they taste nothing like brats! Some don't grill well and may even fall apart if you're not careful. If you're into this type of sausage, steaming might be the way to go. If you want something that tastes like a brat, go with a Johnsonville or go anywhere in Wisconsin! (and don't forget the beer)! On a positive note, they do have great cuts of meat and some of the best fresh seafood in town (special order if you have to). 5 stars for the seafood and 1 star for the brats. read more

I wish I could rate this by product quality and customer service. We ordered a few brats for the weekend and they were excellent! But the service, or lack there of was absolutely awful. My wife and I walked in, with no greeting (which is no big deal at all; but noticed) walked over to the brats to decide what we wanted. When we were ready, the younger girl just stared at me and just raised her eyebrows when I said we were ready to order. She rolled her eyes when she had to go in back and get an extra brat. They then didn't even bother to divide the different brats we ordered so we had to guess which we were making when we got home. Finally we made it to the check out where the same girl was staring at the ground the whole time. I was reluctant to stray from Pinnons in the first place and you can plan I'll never do that again. The woman Sara that could not be bothered helping me gave me so much attitude and disrespect because I didn't place an order ahead of time for a spare of the moment party. I emailed Pete the owner of this store only to get a reply that is obvious he doesn't care if the business succeeds or fails. I will spend my money were it is appreciated. If you do go have the guy behind the case Andy take care of you. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone I liked. read more

Avoid - I have been there numerous times over that past couple years (mostly due to convenience). I wish they gave a crap about their service but they don't. Any other basic butcher shop or grocery store will be superior to these people. 1- I asked for a sandwich, the woman/girl said she "just put that all away" and huffed. I told her the I guess I don't want it if its too much work. She said ok. I bought nothing. 2- as recently as today - I bought 1 1/2 pounds of bacon. the guy put the bacon on the back counter and walked away (brown haired guy). I wanted to buy more, ie stuffed mushrooms, but he left. The heavy set girl ignored me and the other woman also ignored me. I was the only person in the store. I stood there for 1-2 minutes. Then I asked if they were "too busy" to sell me some more items. The heavy set girl said she would "check". I left with just the bacon. Will never go back. These people need to get their act together. Even the meat is not as good as other local shops. Common theme seems to be workers who don't know/care about what they are doing. read more
