Of course there may be times when it could be pretty hot or cool depending on the season, but that is definitely part of the experience for me! The picture on the screen is amazingly clear! Why do they let people in past showtime start? I guess I didn't remember the first 20 minutes of the movie being ruined by cars driving around being very indecisive on where they decided to park, also if you come to the movie to park in the back and go join your friends, try actually turning your lights off. A car full of teenagers with "just graduated" on there window decided to back up go forward, back up, keep there reverse lights on forever right in our face and then just drive off and circle back and still not know where to park after they were already late, I'm 19 and graduated last year but tonight made me feel like the drive in is more for the 14-18 age range read more

This drive in is one of the best I have been to. Their screen appeared to be made of vinyl, which I have not seen before. But the picture was good. And prices were reasonable. Surrounded by honeysuckle, the cars are parked single deep, which is the best for movie viewing purposes in ny opinion. The parking area looked brand new. I am not sure if they smooth out the gravel before each week, or if i happened to catch them on a good week, but it was great. The parking area was also very clean and did not have a gross smell. There is a playground for kids to play on featuring a slide, seasaws, merry go rounds, and concrete bouncers on springs. There is also plenty of area to throw or kick a ball around both in front of the parking area (gravel) as well as in the very back (grass). The bathrooms had about 5 stalls (females) and were located in a safe area, not hidden. They were clean and kept up as well. As for the concessions, there is not a lot of variety when compared to other drive in theatres. Primarily hot dogs, sausages, bbq sandwiches, popcorn, soda, and candy (see picture I posted). I have to give them credit though, that the food they do offer is good. The food prep area and concession area are clean and well managed. I think it is better to offer only a few foods that are good than a bunch of foods that are poor in taste (and they offer a few foods that are good. Which is good.) I would just recommend considering to offer more... maybe burgers and fries? The concession prices are reasonable, as well. One last thing... the building which their concessions are sold in is possibly the best one I have seen, both in style and design. There are two entrances, one on each side, which lead to a single exit in the middle. This allows for traffic to flow through conveniently, instead of having to do this swimming upstream to get back outside sort of thing. Highly recommend this theater. read more

Was a complete waste of time don't even ever try to go out here because then you just get harassed by a meter maid cop and pay to watch a movie that you can't even hear it... broadcast thru on a sixties sound system with so much static...and so many plp were blasting their headlights so couldn't ever see the movie well you could but would thru a giant shadow of a car on the screen...so fkn disgusted used to be much better and high class $ greed must've gotten the better of them... read more

We went there this weekend to see Heaven is for real and Rio 2. First of all, they form more than one line to get everyone through the line quickly and do a great job of it. It only cost $7 per adult and both our kids were in car seats so they were free. The people are always friendly and smiling even though they are hard at work. We went a little tward the back so we could get a good view and park backwards so we could set out our chairs and let the kids run around a little bit safely. The kids loved it and so did we. The feel of the drive-in Theatre is just wonderful and kind of took me back to when I was a child going with my family. I believe this is a special experiance that is a must for family time. They do have a concesion stand but we brought our own food and some juice boxes and milk for the little ones, some bottled water for us. I have been told the facilities are kept up well, but have not used them myself. I can not recomend this place enough. I just love going here, especially with the kids. I hope they have the great memories I feel now when they are older and taking their own families to the drive-in later in life. read more

One of the best things about summer? Watching a movie at the drive-in! 66 Drive-In is a great place to come and see a movie. You get to see TWO movies for the $7 admission fee (admission for children costs less). 66 Drive-In does not show rated-R movies, and is family-friendly. The concession stand has a great variety and the prices are very reasonable. We LOVE the popcorn ($3 for a large)! They also serve BBQ sandwiches, nachos with chili and cheese, hot dogs, ice cream bars, dill pickles, and many different kinds of candy. It's also possible to bring all of your snacks into the drive-in, but remember that the drive-in needs money from the concession stand to stay in business so, please, try to buy something to support the drive-in. As I stated, the prices are very reasonable. Here are a few tips: 1. Pay attention to where you park. Look at the row in cars in front of where you are planning to park. Is it a big truck? Is it a mini van with its rear door opened and blocking your view? Do your best to park where your view will not be obstructed by people who might not care if they are in everyone else's way. 2. Arrive early. Last summer we drove down a few times and ended up disappointed when we were unable to get into the movie. It was sold out. Show times change based on when the sun goes down, so check the website to find out what time they start letting cars in and plan to arrive at least an hour early--especially if it is a popular movie that will have a big crowd. read more

Very Reasonable price for 2 movies. Because it's outdoors, it has to be late (which can make it difficult for kids). Due to it being outdoors, it can't be open all year (for obvious reasons). Highly recommend it. read more

With the price of 1 adult at the ONLY movie theatre in Joplin nearing $10/person, it's much more economical to go to the drive-in. My wife and I love going with friends and hanging out before the movies start. For 6 bucks a person and 1st run movies, it can't be beat. read more

We had a man freak out on us when we stopped. Foaming at the mouth. I thought it might be a day hire person, but from another review here it sounds like it might surprisingly be the owner? All we were doing is taking a picture from in front of the main sign from the drive way. We never even attempted to enter the theatre / grounds, not would we have because they were closed. . Just a picture with our small quiet tour group of 10 retirees outside the building / grounds. We are a tour group that takes people down Rt 66. We only wanted to share and promote the theatre. Some disheveled mad man came running up screaming at us. We will make sure we don't promote or stop with our tour groups ever, or our friends tour companies. Since we do classic car, motorcycle, and other tours down Rt 66, I was even thinking about arranging it so all of our guided tours, self drive tours, and tell people renting our vehicles to stop there that night and see a movie. No thank you now. I have to say that there were a couple of tiny cones in the driveway. I thought those might be to keep big trucks or something from using the driveway as a turn around. I had no idea that an owner would not want people to stop on their little motorcycles and take pictures with the outside of the theatre / sign in the background and have these people post the picture on facebook etc all over the world to other people looking for a great Rt 66 stop. My bad. We did have a little box truck with us, but we kept that outside the couple tiny cones, in case there was a problem with the driveway foundation etc. We were a little confused by the cones as we turned into the driveway with our Motorcycles. Not like we jumped a fence, went inside the grounds, left trash.... To be clear. We did not enter or attempt to enter the theater. Just get a picture of it from the outside. My 17 year old took one of my younger girls that was 10 yrs old to the drive in tonight and had to pay full price for her. The attendant at the entrance told her "she looks older" so he charged her $7 instead of $3. Really? If you're going to advertise prices ($3 for 12 and under) at least abide by them. This drive-in is really nicely kept and active in the summertime. There is adequate parking space, good lighting, fencing that makes it feel secure, and a nice retro vibe that makes it a huge asset to surrounding communities. There are not a lot of these drive-ins left in the United States and I think we kind of take this place for granted! It's definitely a good value and their snack bar is really affordable compared to movie theater concessions. I can't remember what we paid for popcorn, a large soda, and a Starbucks bottled iced coffee but I know the Starbucks drink was cheaper than it would be in a convenience store and the whole snack bar trip was less than a small popcorn would cost at the regular theater. They have a LARGE screen compared to other drive-ins I have attended in the past decade. Their restrooms are very clean and plenty large for this type of place! My only complaint is the percentage of animated and family movies shown. I've been told by angry parents that "the drive-in is for kids!" and I should stop whining, but I don't agree. I think it would be cool if they alternated weekends of animated movies and "regular" movies, or something like that. I even like it when they do a family friendly live action film first and then show a second movie that is targeted for more mature audiences (drama, comedy, whatever). That's a good way to please everyone in my opinion but I have no love for Pixar and carloads of children screaming and running back and forth, thank you very much. My best experience here was seeing Mamma Mia! which was the perfect film to watch outdoors, it lent a soaring quality to the beautiful scenery and was just a lot of fun. read more

The 66 Drive-In Theatre has always been one of my favorite places. I love feeling like you've stepped back in time. I have been coming here since I was a teenager. The price for two movies is amazing, and the concession stand is well priced too. No, you don't have to pay $10.00 for a large popcorn like some indoor theatres in the area. I have heard that the theatre gets its money from the concession stands, so I always try to buy something while I'm there to support them. Plus, who doesn't love popcorn or a pickle during the movies! The only complaint I would have is that the drive-in is not smoke free. There isn't even a designated smoking area. I know that there is a designated area for large vehicles, so I don't think it would be to hard to make a designated smoking area. It never really bothered me when I was a teenager, but hey I was a teenager. Now, I usually go with young kids. I have been there twice this season and both times been parked next to a smoker, who smoked through the entire movie! It started bothering me, so i am sure the kids with me were having a hard time too. I would just move spots, but the last time I was there they started smoking once the movie had started and I wasn't sure if it was ok to move your vehicle while the movie is on, since the light go off and people are usually sitting in the aisles. Plus, You could go through all that trouble and still end up next to another smoker. At least if there was a smoking area, We would be able to park further away from the smokers. Located on historic Route 66 it is a must-see for anyone who is traveling the Route! The Goodman family have made the Route 66 Drive-in an ideal place for families. They have committed to never showing an R -rated movie so you can bring everyone in the family to enjoy a movie under the stars! Opening every year in April and running through September, it is one of the last of its breed. Showing movies that are first-run but a few weeks after they open allows the drive-in to keep ticket prices low (currenty $6.00 for adults and that includes 2 movies-try getting that deal at the multiplex!) You can bring your own food , but there is no need. Concessions are priced low, so you can enjoy fresh popcorn, jumbo hotdogs and the chili cheese nachos are to die for! The place is clean, safe an just perfect to sit under the stars and watch a movie with your family. It's a great place to go on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening and turn off the Wii and the Nintendo and actually talk to your kids (before the movie starts) just like we did way back in the 70's!!!! So if you are taking a trip down Rt 66, then you have to stop and see a movie or you haven't really traveled the Route. If you are from out of the area, then you will be amazed at the friendly folks. True mid-west folks who do it right by their customers. I was hoping to get a quick glimpse of the historic place- just passing through. From what I heard it seemed it was going to be really cool, something you have to see at least once. It is around a corner and behind some trees. Never having been in the area before, made the mistake of pulling into the gravel drive to turn around, just as you would any parking lot, almost passed it. No sooner had I pulled in than the proprietor blazed straight to my car and told me to get back out to the street ASAP and pointed out the no trespassing. I thought in all honestly that the no trespassing referred to the gated portion of the grounds, not the entry itself. Freaked me out, will never go back. NO idea. If I were the proprietor, I would chain the drives closed, making the situation absolutely clear, and do the world a favor. What lead me to want to check this place out anyway?
