Since there is no other theater in the immediate area prices are substantially higher than what you would pay for an IMAX evening movie and in a larger city. The theatre as a whole is pretty run down - peeling wallpaper, bathroom facilities which are usually out of order, A/C that either doesn't work, leaves you sweating, or stuck with a damp musty odor. The screens in several auditoriums are dirty too. Watched a movie the other day and there was a large stain right off center. Seats are pretty trashy - either the spring that lets you lean back is too lose and you fall backwards or it doesn't lean at all. Floors are VERY sticky and auditoriums rarely seem cleaned after shows. read more

I've been coming here for a long time, and it's always been a pretty good movie experience. It's not really ever crowded, it's fairly clean, and the popcorn is good. My only complaint would be that there are never enough workers at the concession counter, so if there is any crowd whatsoever you have to stand in one of two or three lines, when the counter has probably 6 registers and could easily spread out the crowd. Not a lot of options for movie theaters in Joplin, but Regal Northstar does the trick. It's your standard theater with semi-pricy concessions. Very family friendly and nice date spot. Only issue I've had is that sometimes getting tickets can be slow so make sure to come at least 15 minutes before movie time read more

These days thinking of "lost malls"; the Northstar is an artifact. The staff are adequate to the task. Yes, I'm not sure that it is always heated but the A/C works as I recollect; the concessions had a Gatorade Zero! The old rule of making money from showing movies is to build a theater around a concession stand, surprise. Not the worst theater I've ever been in but it's run down and worn. Screens are too dark, some rooms don't seem to have proper floor lighting making them dangerous. Surprisingly expensive, everything is priced like a big city theater without any of the quality. Seats are bad, sometimes broken and the sound is just loud, not great. For this price I expect better but when your the only theater in town and maybe people who don't travel much don't know what they are missing and being over charged for. read more

I always enjoy going to the movies, however, it is so expensive, that we only go when there is a movie we can't wait for on DVD. Sure, all theaters are pretty expensive, however, Northstar is not near nice enough to be charging the prices they do. I have been to bigger cities with tickets that are more expensive, but their theaters are very very nice, clean, and comfortable. I wouldn't recommend going to this theater unless they begin to lower their prices. There are a plenty of other smaller theaters around the area with more reasonable prices. read more

Prices on both tickets and food was higher than we're used to, but we wanted to see the movie, so went. The theater space was as far from the entry as it could be and was freezing the entire time. I had worn my coat and had gloves, so was okay-comfortable, but to pay a high price for this privilege is unforgivable. I was told they were working on the heat and air system, but why show movies in the space, then? Maybe some other theaters have been remodeled but not this one. IF I ever return, I'll find out which theater space my movie is in first. In a time when movie-going is threatened, I'm surprised managers would treat their customers this way. read more

The prices at Hollywood Theater - Northstar is absolutely ridiculous! I was at a theater in Jefferson City in which an evening ticket was less than $7. This is compared to $9 at this one. Not to mention the concesion prices are over priced!!! Much advised to sneak food and drink in. As for 3-D, I am not into the whole 3-D fad, but they did have the 3-D option available for Avatar, although this was the only time I seen it used. Over all this is a decent place to go to even though you do not receive discounts for being a student, veteran, or elderly. I recently went to Northstar 14 to see a movie. The staff was very nice and polite and the place was very clean, even the restrooms. While I know some people like to be "blown away" by the sound system at a movie, in my oppinion it was just too loud. I have been to Ozzy concerts that didn't have the volume up that much. My ears were ringing after the movie. I could not believe the price for the ticket and this was a matinee, let alone the pop corn and cokes. I skipped the concesion part because If I felt it was just a rip off. Too loud, too expensive for the little value you get, and just not worth the money in my personal oppinion. read more

Well, the sound bleeds over between theaters. Over half of the seats are broken so they either recline at an angle, fall back as soon as you touch them, or lean forward slightly. The concession stand is overpriced, which isn't new, but is pretty shit, which is a disappointment. A couple of the side screens have little pin holes in them that puts a white dot in the middle of the image if you are sitting at the wrong angle. The tickets are around $9.50 for adult evening, $12.50 for 3-D, and int he $7.50 range for adult matinee. (I believe the better kept Warrenberg in Springfield charges $7 for an evening adult.) But! It's the only movie theater within a half hour drive on the highway or interstate besides the Rt 66 in Webb City which has only one screen and a tinny single speaker hanging from the ceiling so as long as its doors are open people will be walking through them. At least it doesn't smell like pee like the old Dollar Show theater on 7th did. read more

This theatre is one of the best in the area with one annoying caveat: the sound from the adjoining theatres bleed over during loud moments. This can range from mildly bothersome to outright annoying. It's a shame, too, as this theatre's seats are probably the most comfortable of any that I've sat in. Not to mention the surround sound is superb and projection/screens are top-notch. I watched There Will Be Blood recently and was appalled at the amount of sound coming from the adjoining theatre. They desperately need to sound proof the entire facility. You might not notice it on most films but if you're watching a quiet film and the film next to you is a massive blockbuster then you are going to hear the noise. As movie theaters go it was pretty sub-par. Recently Regal Cinemas bought this location so hopefully there will be some upgrades. How dare they serve me Pepsi and not Coke. Hopefully that was the previous owner and they are going to phase that out. read more

I went over the reviews for this place and they left me wondering if I really wanted to see the movie or wait till I was in my home town. The price was higher than my town's theater and the drink prices were higher also but the drink was larger than I expected. The auditorium was very clean and the seats were comfortable and nice. Not only was each and ever employee distracted or unfriendly and short with me AND my family members, but the prices were absurd. Every theatre I have been to, local and branch wise has been far beyond the standards they obviously do not have at Regal. Even for children at the matinee, the prices were ridiculous and despite the WAY overpriced (and I'm talking overpriced for a movie theatre) items and tickets, they were completely stingy with butter on your popcorn, empty containers or cups, and water. I would rather drive the 30 minutes outside of town or hour to Springfield to get a small town mini theatre or ANYTHING besides that. Certainly will not be returning. read more

This theater was state of the art when it first opened BUT it is now 20-21 years old. Many other area theaters including nearby Neosho have recently remodeled and improved customer experience (and cheaper). Regal has let this theater go downhill. Theater #1 the heater was cranked up so high it felt 85 or 90 degrees. Everyone was complaining about the intense heat. Then you go to the north end of the theater complex....some screen rooms are ice cold. In the summer the A/C was out. Theater #4(?) the projector seems to be going bad with washed out film colors. Most seats are broken. After 20 years Regal needs to do a major remodel or risk losing customers to other area theaters. read more

Apparently, movie theaters are really hard to keep clean and up to date. I've lived in Joplin for more than 2 decades and seen so many nice theaters fall far, far downhill until they eventually collapse into piles of shit with rats and opossums running through them (the former Eastgate for example). It seems to happen practically overnight and I fear this will happen to Northstar 14 as well. I'm a movie fanatic and with every trip to Northstar I notice further signs of decay. Their prices are stupid high. They have a monopoly on the local market so there's no option, really. I like the idea of the Webb City Route 66 Theater but let's face it, that place sucks. 66 Drive-In is open for just a few weeks of the year and is overtaken with Pixar and carloads of kids. So Northstar it is...I somewhat bitterly embrace our lone "real" theater. read more

This is the only movie theater in our town, and I think that Regal has taken advantage of that. Tickets prices are exorbitant compared to other theaters of similar size in nearby larger cities (Fayetteville, AR, Tulsa, OK). It is outdated, dirty, and in desperate need of refurbishment. But since they have no other competitors in Joplin, Regal continues to increase their prices while simultaneously letting their facilities become more and more dilapidated. It has made me start choosing smaller theaters in outlying areas when there is a new release that I want to see. Avoid this theater if you can. read more

Being the only wide release theater in town they usually have all the big name movies and occasionally a few smaller releases. The screens are not in great shape. One theater has several large yellow spots on the screen that have been there for years. The seating is deteriorating fast and if it's a full theater you're probably going to get an uncomfortable and creaky chair. Ticket prices and concession prices are high as to be expected unfortunately. The staff is usually very friendly though and they do take care of long lines efficiently. read more

I have never left a review for anywhere, poor or otherwise. My daughter decided to treat her sons & me to a movie that was unfortunately sold out, so we selected another. She had passes that he couldn't take, even though none were expired. When we tried to buy the "movie bundle" & get our Regal points, we were told they didn't have any. When Inpointed out the sign advertising the special, employee, Dillon, gave a very convoluted, unsatisfactory explanation. He didn't swipe my Club card, we just gave up. This theater opened in the 1990s and was pretty nice at the time. Aside from digital projectors and a sharp increase in ticket prices, not much has changed. Overall it's a decent theater, with the exception of the chairs. Nearly every chair in the place is squeaky/broken. I've also noticed on several films lately that the picture has been unusually dark. Maybe a broken projector? Ticket prices are absurd, but that is not unique to this movie theater. Concession prices are even worse, but again that is not unique to this theater. It's the only theater in Joplin so I am not terribly optimistic that the chairs will be replaced anytime soon since there any immediate competition. Though a lot of people have started making the short trip to Pittsburg to watch movies where the theater is admittedly not as nice, but at least the chairs don't squeak and the prices are in line with the experience. Overall it gets the job done I guess. I just wish they would get chairs and some other things fixed or lower the ticket prices to reflect the upkeep they have deferred since the theater opened 20 years ago. read more
