Before moving to NYC, I didn't understand how people could live here. The New York City I knew as a tourist was too full of people, tourists, tall buildings, and concrete. Nothing seemed humane. People marched along to the beat of "time is money."
So I moved here and I find myself discovering a different New York. The New York that NYers know and love. I began to peel away the concrete layers and to discover much to my surprise and joy, a softer, greener side to the city. It was there along.
The 6th St. & B Ave community garden tucked away in the East Village is one of the many little community gardens found in Manhattan that softens the city -- an unexpected green oasis. It's the largest community garden that I've found and the nicest. There are lots of little sitting nooks (including a wooden gazebo) that make for romantic secluded area surrounded by trees, flowers, and lush green leaves.
