A huge rainstorm blew in as I drove over and so I entered quite literally with a clap of thunder. It was scary! I made a joke about getting struck by lightning to defuse the tension and the two employees and the couple guests in the space looked at me like I'd grown three heads and said nothing. This frosty reception continued as I looked at the menu, asked a question, and placed my order. Not the most welcoming staff. The atmosphere otherwise is very nice! Love the decor and the welcoming art and signs. Seems like a great place to get some work done. There's a small library where you can grab a book to read too. There's pastries and baked goods for sale and maybe a few other things to eat; I was stuffed from lunch so didn't pay too close attention. I asked a staff member which of two specialty lattes she liked better; she flatly told me she hadn't tried the "Easley" but that the "Swann" was their best seller. I chose that. It had white chocolate and caramel; I declined the whipped cream on top and got it iced. It was a really good coffee drink! Super pale blonde in color and very sweet...but that's how I like my sugar - er, coffee. It was a nice dessert/energizer combo and I enjoyed it a lot! They have lots of comfy indoor seating and a small patio as well. They have a fairly in-depth selection of typical coffeeshop food -- sandwiches, bagels, muffins, etc. They have a LOT of baked goods and dessert type offerings, and a large cooler with grab and go snacks and desserts, like pasta salad, juices and other cold drinks, and even cheesecake and strawberry pretzel salad. Service was adequate - seemed a bit in a hurry to complete my order. I noticed by the time I was done collecting a straw, some napkins, etc, the barista had rejoined her friends seated on some of the couches to chat. Still, she wasn't impolite and my order was prepared quickly and correctly, so not a huge deal. I ordered a smaller sized iced latte with both peanut butter and chocolate fudge flavorings. They have a massive list of flavor shots you can add to your lattes, which was fun! Didn't see any specialty drinks of their own creation but I figured you couldn't go wrong with a peanut butter cup type of deal, thus my selection. I wasn't disappointed! It was sweet and creamy and had the right amount of ice. Honestly maybe a little low on espresso flavor (perhaps a smidge too much milk?) but I was happy overall. I also got a cookie for dessert later that evening. It looked like one of those no-bake oatmeal chocolate cookies. I enjoyed that, too. The Falkville downtown is very small and quaint but cute. There's street parking right in front of the shop and I nabbed a spot. I walked into a really adorable environment - it felt super homey and several people were at work on laptops or chatting. They also had a few selections of local crafts and gifts, which I enjoyed checking out. They have small bites and cafe type breakfast and lunch items (eg paninis, breakfast sandwiches, cookies, muffins, etc) and an extensive hot and iced drink menu. They did have some Valentine's Day styled seasonal specialty lattes advertised, but I didn't really like the sound/flavor combinations of any of them. Instead, I was able to build my own latte with flavor add-ins, which is nice. I ordered an iced latte with dark chocolate and maybe cinnamon? It's been a while since my visit but I seem to recall cinnamon. The service was adequate; my drink was ready in a timely fashion and the barista checked to see if I wanted an alternative milk. However, I didn't get the most friendly vibe and when I asked about the specialty drinks (e.g., which one is your favorite?) the answer was pretty flat and noncommittal. Idk, just a slightly weird vibe. Nothing crazy unpleasant, I just didn't feel very welcome, I guess. No biggie, I wanted to start the drive home anyway. I enjoyed my drink. It was nicely balanced and I could definitely taste the dark chocolate. And, unless I'm hallucinating this memory/flavor add-in, the cinnamon gave it a nice kick.
