I've known about this place for sometime now and even posted an exterior shot from when I was driving around looking for another place with a footnote to come back some time. Don't know what I was expecting but I walked into a very nice convenience store and it the back, a very nice Cafe, tastefully decorated and a full kitchen that could serve a much larger space. Not an expansive menu but from what i could tell, the emphasis was on quality and not the number of menu items offered. You walk in and follow the signs to the counter and after reviewing the menu, you place your order and then you pay. If you are dining in, you come back and grab a table till your number is called. If it's take out, you come back and pick it up. Looked over the lunch menu and a couple of things looked good. Breakfast menu looked very good as well.The lady at the counter asked me about todays special which was a Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich with Honey Mustard which sounded good. For a side, I had the potato salad. Place my order,paid and in short order my number was called and I picked it up at the Counter. Looked good and when I bit it, it was as good as it looked. Steak was nicely cooked and while I was a bit leary of the Honey Mustard, it turned out to be a nice compliment. The Potato Salad was excellent with a bit of a tang from the mustard used in it but not overpowering with a nice taste and texture. A bit hidden and not well marked on I-77 but it's the at the Tomlin Mill Exit North of Statesville on the west side of the interchange. Worth giving in a try.

I would not hesitate to take a dump here. Now that might change in a year. The pumps are the same. Nothing added or updated with them. So bumping 4 Brothers on 5th and Broad up a star due to the remodeling.

You can see the cook in the front making your food. It is a pleasant surprise to say the least. FYI, Crossroads Mart is the name of the gas station. Summary - New York style pizzas - Good Italian food including pastas, calzones, spaghetti, and alfredo dishes - Subs, cheese steaks, burgers and hot dogs for those who want something else - There is NO official web site, but you can find "The New Yorker Pizza" menus on the web. - You can't order online, which sucks. You have to call in your order if you are carrying out or having it delivered. - They do deliver for free if the order is over a certain amount - There are a few booths if you want to eat inside the gas station - The pizza prices are higher than the chains but they do have specials you can take advantage of If you find yourself just south of Mocksville on US 64 then I highly recommend Crossroads Mart (AKA The New Yorker Pizza)

I'd regularly see my classmates at Smitty's or go there with them. In high school, I used to go to Smitty's to fill up my parents' cars and use their credit cards to pay for gas. I always wondered if the cashiers inside would question me about using credit cards that weren't mine, but they never did. This was back in the days when pumps didn't have credit card readers on them. Also, IIRC, this was a Union 76 gas station then (late 90s), but the convenience store was still Smitty's. Today and for years now, the gas station is an "E Stop" (eSTOP) which I've never seen anywhere else. This is a small station with eight pumps. Despite the bigger-name gas stations and convenience stores that have come and gone on the catty-corner properties (e.g. BP, Sheetz) Smitty's has persevered.

Compared to the Marathon / Petro Express that was here before, this BP / Family Fare is a nice…read moreupgrade. The Family Fare convenience store is a lot nicer and a lot bigger than the old Petro Express, which was a tiny little store. Unlike Petro Express, which was more of a "shack" corner store, this Family Fare is more on the scale of a Sheetz or QuikTrip. It opened sometime between July 2018 and June 2019. The BP gas station has eight pumps which is actually less than before - Marathon had 10. However, the overall site is more spacious, open, and clean. The pumps are naturally nicer because they're BP brand, which is a more expensive brand, and they're newer. Ads play on the display while you pump. There are at least three ways you can save money on gas here: (1) BPme Rewards, (2) Harris Teeter Fuel Points, and (3) GetUpside. I used GetUpside to get $0.20 off per gallon for premium gas during my visit. The discount amounts vary when using GetUpside. If you've never used it before, get the app and use my invite code DANIEL66482 to save even more money. I sound like an ad, but there's no catch. It's free savings on gas. You just have to jump through the hoops of finding the app in your app store, downloading/installing it, signing up, and "checking in" before you pay to get the savings. Family Fare is a regional chain with currently 25 locations (franchises), mostly in North Carolina. The company also has a presence in Virginia. There used to be a Burger King in the lot next door. These days, you'll see sellers with pop-up shops / canopies there.

There is a new employee…read morethat parks in the only handicapped space the store has and that is inconvenient for any handicapped people that truly need that spot. This person could park next to that spot and still be just as easy to walk in. It's when it's busy and all those other spots are taken where that will cause an issue for a truly handicapped person. There is no excuse for an employee to take over this spot for a whole shift whether they are handicapped or not which I don't believe this person is bc they appear to move around just fine. But that's beside the point. They have other spot to choose from when they first open the store. No reason to take up the only handicapped spot provided by the store.
