So my mom has been dealing with sciatica pain for some time the pain got so bad that she was not able to walk on her own and needed a walker. It seemed like I was taking her to the doctor at least once a week she was giving pain medication and it helped for a while, but the pain always came back. So I decided to take her to an acupuncturist because her primary care doctor wasn't taking care of the problem. when my mom came in for her first visit the pain level was at a nine and came I with a walker at her second visit her pain level was at a 3 and was not using her walker by the third visit she didn't have any pain. I was recommended here by a friend. I admit it took me about a year to actually go, but after I got Covid, I felt like I needed to really take dads is myself mentally and physically. The intake form took me about 30 minutes but it's worth taking the time to really take time to do it. The consultation very thorough and addressed a lot of issues I have been dealing with. Thank you Kim for helping me through my IVF process. She helped me not only to warm up my uterus to prepare for my IVF process but also keep my energy level up! And I finally got pregnant after 8 years trying! Going to Kim treatment is a big commitment and I see why it works! Like most people who seek out acupuncture, I was dealing with a sudden onset of a health issue that I had no idea how to treat. It was daunting to realize it might be chronic and I'd just have to live with it. Kim's "program" is unique and I feel her main focus is consistency in appointments. This is really where she differs from other places. I went about 3x a week, then 2x a week, and then it tapers off depending on your symptoms. 20+ sessions later, I am completely rid of my health issue and feeling renewed. Realistically, I attribute it to other things I also do b/c restoring my health was really a multi-faceted problem. But without a doubt acupuncture played a big role in that. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for about 2 years before we found Kim. We were previously going through a fertility clinic and when a few rounds of Clomid didn't work, we were advised to try IUI/IVF; but we really wanted to be able to conceive as naturally as possible. On our consultation with Kim, she set realistic expectations for us and didn't make us any promises. All she asked from us was at least a 6 month commitment, and then we would re-evaluate our situation and options. To be completely transparent, I was skeptical for most of my treatments. I come from a medical background, so I usually rely on labs and diagnostics for answers. And because I couldn't physically see or feel changes, I wasn't sure if the treatments were working. I started seeing Kim on 08/2020. I actually was just looking to do a few sessions to help me with my next round of IVF as I heard acupuncture "can help." When I did my consultation with her- she told me she recommended at least 6 months of acupuncture weekly before doing another round of IVF. This totally conflicted with my instructions from the doctor I was seeing, as we were going to begin Egg Retrieval #2 the next week. I had no viable embryos with the first egg retrieval we did. The doctor told me that it was due to my "poor egg quality." After having a melt down in Kim's office because she recommended I wait at least 6 months & come in for weekly treatments- while the doctor was ready to proceed with a second round... I took the night to sleep on it & reevaluate my situation. I'm also a RN, so after reviewing that my FSH was through the roof after the egg retreival at 16.2 (the FSH for post menopausal patients!) --I began to think that our fertility doctor did not have my best interest. I knew that the outcome of a second egg retrieval would not be good with such high FSH & my body really needed a break from all the hormones. I went with my gut feeling, cancelled the cycle, & started seeing Kim every week. At first, I couldn't even lay there for 30 mins. My body was used to "the fight or flight" and didn't know how to get into the "rest & digest" mode. The first 3 months were crazy- Kim was telling me she was "regulating my cycle & purging all the hormones in my system." At this point, I don't think I really believed anything was happening, I just kept going to appointments because it was helping me relax. Then after 4-5 months, my cycle was back to normal, and my stress levels had decreased. With a clearer mind, I looked up other doctors' success rates & changed REI doctors. After seeing a new REI doctor and running some labs, I found out my FSH had improved: 06/2020 it was 9.2, 08/2020 it was 16.2, and on 04/2021 it was 8.5. It was at this moment that I knew acupuncture works. Kim essentially helped my body flush out all of the IVF hormones & brought down my FSH levels. I also noticed my immune system improving; I stayed healthy and didn't get a cold for 16 months. After 8 months of seeing Kim, we proceeded with our 2nd egg retrieval on 04/2021 and had a MUCH better outcome. I even tolerated the IVF medications MUCH better this time around- I was not nearly as depleted and exhausted. Kim also showed me the sites to inject so I would feel less pain. We did our Frozen Embryo Transfer on 10/2021, I saw Kim before & after the transfer. I took a pregnancy test just 4 days after the transfer and already saw a faint line. The craziest thing was, I didn't tell Kim that I had been taking pregnancy tests pretty much every day to see a line progression-- and she felt my pulse, got teary eyed, and SHE JUST KNEW I WAS PREGNANT. It's been a 3 year journey for us to get pregnant, but I wholeheartedly believe that acupuncture has increased our chances, if not given us a better outcome with IVF. Bear in mind though that you can't just have 1 or 5 sessions, it's a commitment to come in consistently. I am now 20 weeks pregnant, and I experienced ONE episode of nausea/vomiting/heartburn. I actually had no symptoms of pregnancy, that it worried me-- many people have told me I'm one of the "lucky ones" but I believe that the reason why I did not have any morning sickness with this pregnancy is because my body was balanced. Very disappointed in the level of care I received from Kim during my last visit. I've been coming here for a few years now and I've trusted her through some of the toughest parts of my fertility journey and I'm just shocked at how my last appointment went. Coming back into her office after moving back to the area was a completely different experience than what I'm used to. I was informed the prices have gone up which is very understandable, but pricing a "fertility" related session $150 per session is just wild especially since you're expected to go three times a week during current ivf related treatments. She gave me an option to pay $4200 upfront for 36 sessions and the price per session would drop a bit. After explaining this is a huge expense on top of IVF bills and I would need to talk to my husband she preceded to tell me this is the only way I would achieve my goals and that she is the only fertility acupuncture specialist in the United States.. AND that's where she lost me. Kim could definitely tell I wasnt feeling the pitch so she started giving me her success rates for 'natural conception' and how high her rates are yet I've been coming for years and had never had a positive pregnancy test on her protocol.
