If you're looking for an incredible midwife that will always feel like family, look no further.
    Brigitte E.

When it comes to midwifery care and home birth, there's just no better than Sue Gill. My husband and I had planned on interviewing many different midwives for our first baby to try to find the right fit. Sue was the first we met with and when we walked out we both agreed we didn't need to meet anyone else! She is so incredibly knowledgeable and wise, with tons of experience under her belt (which explains why she's got a constant handful of midwives-in-training on her team). She is so comfortable and confident in natural birth and your body's ability to birth your baby that you can't help but feel at ease in her care. I looked forward to every prenatal visit with her and her team. She addresses every aspect of your pregnancy - your physiology, baby's position (which she nails every time with a simple fetoscope and a few little palpations... it is seriously impressive), nutrition and supplements, emotional and mental wellbeing... everything. It never feels rushed and it's always a good time. She's straight-forward and honest and will tell you what you need to hear, because she truly wants the best outcome for you and your baby. She's so in tune with maternal and fetal health that she caught onto some subtle things that no one else did, early on, and helped me address them from the get-go - which helped us avoid a lot of complications that would have come up later. But birth is a whole other thing entirely. Birth (especially for your first) can feel so unknown and overwhelming and it's easy to get caught up in it (for moms and dads both!). But Sue's calm confidence made all the difference in the world. Despite my (unusually!) long and difficult birth, she had SO many tricks up her sleeve and is so well-versed in everything from techniques to move baby's position to homeopathics and other natural remedies, when to rest and when to walk, different positions to labor in.... etc. Having my baby at home was incredibly important to me, and Sue tirelessly (for 36 hours!) did literally everything possible to make sure that happened for us. And after all that work (i'm sure she was exhausted!!) she climbed up next to me on the bed, took my face in her hands, and told me, "I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!" That memory still makes me tear up! She is a personal hero of mine, and I don't say that lightly!! As if that that wasn't enough, she was by my side for the first week of my little girl's life as we struggled really hard through establishing breastfeeding. She worked closely with us on getting the latch and positioning down, brought us lots of helpful breastfeeding tools, and talked me through and encouraged me in one of the most difficult things I've done (seriously, I thought birth was hard...). She has been there for me any time I've had a question, a doubt, or a worry, from the time we started with her. And even now, my little girl is 2.5 and we live out of state - and she is still the first person I think of to ask questions, run things by, etc. She is STILL always there for us without hesitation. I'm expecting my second baby now. She was literally the first person I told! My husband and I honestly sat down together as soon as we found out to see if it was feasible to either go stay in California during my birth month or fly her here for the month... in the end it just wasn't doable financially and we've found someone locally, but there is seriously no one like Sue. SO - if you've made it through my novel (!), and you know you want an incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, hands-on, confident midwife that will and help you have a safe, successful birth and forever feel like family, look no further. (And yes, there are plenty of other great midwives in OC, but chances are really good that she trained them herself.) ;)

The birth of my daughter was the best experience and it was because of Sue and Blessed Beginnings Midwifery. After six months with my former OBGYN, my husband and I were extremely dissatisfied with our prenatal care. I was adamant about having a birth without any drugs or interventions and I was feeling doubtful that it was possible with the path we had taken. So we started to research other birth options and midwives. When we came across Sue, we knew right away that she was perfect for our family. She is straight forward, intelligent, has years of experience, and is completely devoted to the families and babies she helps bring into the world. She is the most authentic person I've ever known. And to solidify our decision, her references were overjoyed to recommend her services. We started prenatal care with her late in the game but she is a very efficient practitioner and caught us up with no issue. Each prenatal visit was detailed, personable, and involved both my husband and me in the entire experience (he made this baby too, you know.) It was actually the first time my belly was touched and measured during these visits. And every time we had questions, she always educated us about all our options and allowed us to chose what was best for our family. Her midwifery is very family- and parent-centered. One of the best parts about having Sue through this journey was how easy it was to communicate with her. If I had a question about anything, she was one phone call or text away and she was quick with her responses. She is also very resourceful and has an amazing team of professionals she trains and partners with at her office, Backs, Babies & Bellies. The last couple months of my pregnancy, I felt truly taken care of. Most importantly, I felt heard. Sue and her team listened to how I wanted to give birth. And though there is always a chance plans can change, she supported my decisions, fully knowing what I was capable of and what her team was capable of. The birth of my daughter was amazing. After weeks of prepping us for labor and setting up for a water birth, we used all her advice as contractions started. She arrived quickly, set up with her team of student midwives (Tessa and Kimberly), helped me focus through each contraction, and helped deliver my healthy baby. She gave my husband and I time to embrace our new addition as their team cleaned up. Within a short few hours, Sue and her team took my baby's and my vitals and measurements, stitched me up, made an herbal perineal wash, created weeks worth of padsicles, prepared my placenta for smoothies, and taught us some baby basics. For the next three days, we did not have to leave the house for any check ups. Sue and Tessa came to us to do more measurements, check our vitals and my stitches, and help me master how to breastfeed. For weeks postpartum, we've been taking our daughter to the chiropractor (Dr. Brittney Cicon) she teams with. And even though we don't have an appointment with her, Sue still checks my daughter and I with each visit and even helps our daughter during her adjustments. She goes above and beyond for her families. Sue provides a whole package deal, caring for you before and after your pregnancy and the birth of your baby. My husband and I are so in awe of her and view her as part of our family now. She is one of the most important people in our daughter's life. We are forever grateful for her and all that she does for us. Without a doubt, Sue will be our midwife again in the future. We highly recommend her!

Sue is absolutely amazing. I used her for both my homebirths and have to say that I actually miss our pre and postnatal visits after my babies were born (you probably won't hear that about a OBGYN office). I never felt rushed or forgotten about while in labor and Sue was in control the whole time.

Here's me in all my birthing glory but I just love this picture of my support team including Sue Gill and my Doula, Sue Coffman.
    Krista D.

Sue Gill was amazing. I desired a VBAC at home and she guided me through my preparation to having the best alignment and position of the baby possible. Using Sue's advice and guidance and working with Britney Cicon the chiropractor in her office, I felt that I was doing all we could to have the birth I desired. During the birth Sue was so supportive and calm. She was knowledgable and wise and used her experienced skills to bring our very large baby safely into this world into her capable hands. My husband was skeptical of home birth in the beginning but is now a total believer and would use Sue in a heart beat if we had number 3.

At that point we were already 28 weeks pregnant and now had to find a midwife. Jessica was always so compassionate and helpful in answering all of our homebirth questions and concerns. She also invited family members to come to prenatal visits to feel more comfortable about our homebirth decision as well. That was a huge win for us! She took great care of me During pregnancy and each time we got to listen to our little girls heartbeat. I loved that she focused a lot on making sure I was getting great nutrition via food and supplementation to help make sure my body was as healthy it needed to be for delivery. When it came to Labor Day, Jessica's experience definitely prevailed! As I was slow to progress, she knew exactly what I needed to do in order to help Baby along. Her guidance and experience made our homebirth a reality. Her and her assistant were fabulous during our golden hour that we got to spend with our baby girl in our home. They took amazing care for me and the baby. Postpartum visits were so helpful and informative especially as a first time mom. Jessica took care / monitored both me and baby for six weeks. We put our full trust in her for caring for myself, our new baby girl and all our future babies.

I always looked forward to every appointment with her knowing that no matter what I was feeling I would walk out feeling comfortable, supported, and heard. She made my fiancé feel included throughout the process and always made sure all of his questions were answered too! During early labor she was in constant contact with my fiancé to check up on me. Unfortunately I didn't end up having the home birth that I had planned for, but Jessica was by my side every step of the way. When we ended up transferring to the hospital, she made sure to advocate for me, and thankfully, she was still able to be by my side throughout the rest of my labor and delivery. Mine and my son's health and safety was always her #1 priority through our entire journey. I am so grateful for her holistic approach throughout pregnancy, her informed consent for every single decision, and most importantly, her friendship. Jessica's passion for guiding mothers and bringing babies earthside shines through everything she does. Thank you, Jessica!

More than anything, I wanted bringing my daughter into the world to feel sacred, and that's exactly what it was. From the moment I arrived, I felt deeply heard, respected, trusted, loved, and cared for. My amazing midwives, Dorian and Lorri, along with my incredible doula Kennedy, the wonderful Amy, and the entire team, held such a beautiful space throughout my labor. Even during the hardest, most intense moments of my life, I never felt alone. I trusted them completely, and that trust allowed me to stay present, listen to my body, and surrender to the natural birth I had envisioned. There were so many moments I'll never forget~ from Lorri playing her sound bowls to Dorian's calming presence, touch and steady reassurance. Every interaction was filled with such reverence, compassion, and genuine care. They didn't just support my birth plan- they honored it. They encouraged me to create the environment that felt meaningful to me while adding their own wisdom, intuition, and calming feminine presence. It was beyond anything I thought to even hope for. Giving birth naturally to my baby girl was the most challenging and most magical experience of my life. Looking back, I truly can't imagine welcoming her into the world any other way. I'm forever grateful that this was my first birth experience. It was healing, empowering, and something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you to every single person at the birth center for helping bring my daughter into the world with so much love, respect, and heart. You gave our family a gift we'll cherish forever. The entire program I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be a part of as a pregnant, birthing and postpartum mother opened my eyes to alternative language, therapies, choices, and dedication to both the mother and the baby's experience. I have been able to open many other families eyes to alternative methods to birthing and being with your baby (both in vitro and postpartum. I loved the shared library - I even was able to reach out several years later for a book recommendation and received a response almost immediately with the name of the book I was looking for (so that I could buy it for a new mother in my family). My water birth was truly magical and I got to have all my wishes. Dark room, delayed cord cutting, saving placenta, low lighting, special music, a true hypnobirthing experience, private time with my new family, and I got to go home and sleep in my bed that same night! How special! The group classes were powerful, offered the alternative perspectives I was looking for and deeply craving out of my unique birthing experience and plan. I am so proud of the birth I got to have and I owe SO much to the preparation South Coast Midwifery supported. I could go on and on! I'm thinking of the check-ups in the bedroom style "exam room's", the opportunities to choose your own interventions (even how few ultrasounds you'd like), the supports for "just-in-case" scenarios, the introduction (for me for the first time!) to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy, the birthing classes, the breastfeeding classes, the location to yummy heathy snacks and juices before or after my visits - amazing! I wished I could have more than one experience there; thank you, thank you, thank you.

Instead of brief 5 minute appointments, I had informative conversations and all my questions/concerns were answered. I wasn't able to make it to the midwifery birthing suite because I never got to 6cm dilation on my own. My birth did not go to plan at all, my water broke at 3:55am I labored at home for almost 3 hours at 3 to 5 minutes apart with my contractions. Midwife Diane encouraged us to labor at home as long as possible, but we live 35-45 minutes away, so I went to the hospital and was admitted to L&D, but for about 18 hours I was only 1.5cm dilated and my contractions slowed down. Since my water was broken for more than 24 hours I had to start antibiotics for my baby, and after much deliberation with my midwife, I ended up with the epidural and a low dose of pitocin. It was highly disappointing to be unable to stay at the birthing suite, I wish they'd admit sooner the 6cm dilation, but Midwife Julie was absolutely wonderful, she went over all my options and helped me figure out the most peaceful actions to take for my labor. She helped me not feel totally discouraged, you can tell she really put mama first and actually cares! It was wonderful having her deliver my baby, especially because she is the midwife I'd seen the most. I think she helped prevent me from tearing terribly with her techniques. Baby girl was delivered safely, and I was able to rest before delivering her. I had over an hour of skin to skin before they examined her, and all of my birth plan for postpartum was met. I think the hardest part was just my shattered expectations my original birth plan, and a nurse named Pauola who kept jabbing me with needles says "oops your vein exploded, let me try another vein". I also requested no students and that same nurse brought in some nurses-in-training to learn how to set up the Nitrious Oxide, but the students, funny enough, got it working because the nurse didn't turn it on correctly. As for the midwives, every single one I met was absolutely WONDERFUL. They made me feel super confident and excited about giving birth, and I felt extremely supported! I labored for 30 hours, but I'm so grateful for my midwife. Even though my actual labor wasn't according to plan, it was beautiful, and peaceful and I would 1000% do it all over again. The few times I spoke to the head midwife Christina, she was also really informative and kind! I truly had a great experience. I can't wait (...well, I can wait a little bit) to have my next baby with the midwives! Hopefully this little girl made way for the next on to come easier and that I can make it to the birthing suite. If you give birth here, you are in exceptional care!! You're in good hands with Christiana, Julie and the other midwives.

I also really loved that she's the perfect balance of holistic, but will absolutely speak up if something medical is needed. You can tell her top priority is always keeping both mom and baby safe. We also took her Bradley Method class, which was so helpful and made me feel way more prepared and confident going into birth. We learned so much, and I've already been recommending it to everyone. I fully trusted her the entire time, which made such a difference for me going into labor and birth. Throughout my labor, she was there at any time of day to answer my calls and questions, and she always helped me feel calm and educated about what was happening. On the day of the birth, she was calm, confident, and completely in her element. She made the whole experience feel so smooth and magical. I recommend Christy to anyone, and I already know I'll want her as my midwife for all of my future babies

I found Labor of Love by doing some of my own research online. And thank God I did! My doula,…read moreKaren, was my rock throughout my labor and was 100,000 percent amazing--I'll definitely be working with her for my second! A little backstory: I was overwhelmed and so nervous about finding "the one" person to be a part of the most important event of my life. After doing my research and reading through all these bios, I honestly was left feeling overwhelmed, especially knowing how indecisive I can be. I knew I just had to trust my intuition and my gut on this one! After looking at Karen's bio on their website, I had such a good feeling. Staci (the owner), who was super friendly and professional, helped me get connected with Karen, and I booked an interview right away! Karen was so sweet and asked me about my pregnancy experience so far. We discussed how I wanted my birth to go and any concerns I had. There wasn't any pressure to hire her, and it just felt like she was already invested in me, like I was already family. I even had her video chat with my husband to make sure we both felt comfortable and vibed well together--and we sure did! Overall, Karen ended up being the perfect balance of knowledge, experience, and professionalism. It was the most perfect amount of care I could have asked for. She was also such an advocate for my birth plan to work out. Before, during, and after my labor and birth, she was always naturally in tune with what I needed. She was never overbearing, worked so well with my husband, and gave him space to be a part of my support team as well. I am so grateful to have come across Labor of Love

My experience with Labor of Love was almost two years ago now but continues to upset me when thinking back on my experience. We hired Lauren as our doula, who made it clear she expected us to go far past my due date as a first time mom. While it's possible for that to happen, it didn't in my case. At 39 weeks and at 5am while in active labor and getting ready to head to the hospital, she let us know she had Covid. Her backup was Karen, who I wish we hired to begin with as she is far more caring and professional. Though unfortunately our experience still fell short and we ultimately delivered without Karen present. We were left feeling like we invested a lot of emotion and money into this process with ultimately no help. Staci has been incredibly rude to us since then and even revoked our access to watch her training videos, sending me a link to pay her once again when wanting to rewatch for our now second baby on the way. Karen herself even recommended we ask for a partial refund due to our experience, but Staci lacks the professionalism and courtesy to her clients. Truly mindblowing that she revoked access to the training videos after we had already paid for them. I would stay far away and recommend a more experienced and caring doula group.

Contrasting from OB care where every appointment is hurried and routine, Jessie invests in you as a person. Appointments are up to one hour and explore all aspects of health: physical, emotional, mental, etc. Jessie has a magical way about her in the way she advises you and listens that's non-judgmental but supportive. I felt so empowered and supported through it all. During the birth, I'll never forget when Jessie looked me in the eye as I neared the end and told me the only way out was through and I took a big breath and powered through. We did a home, water birth and it was the most special experience. I hope more and more women are able to navigate pregnancy and birth with Jessie or midwives like her. And overall I left this experience wiser about my own body and health, prepared to care for our baby, more confident and more.

She is genuinely caring, compassionate, nurturing and responsive. We had a few scares during our pregnancy that of course had to happen later at night and she was quick to answer and respond in a calm but urgent way. The same has been true postpartum. She ALWAYS has you & your babies health and best interests in mind when discussing options and care. She is informative and relays the perfect mix of holistic/ evidence based medicine and western medicine if needed. Once you have a conversation with her you'll understand why she is the best. Jessie, We love you so much and we are so grateful that you were with us every step of the way to bring our baby girl into the world happy and healthy.
