Been trying to find a good barber every time I visit Minnesota for work, just been going to the barber shop at the mall but it was so inconsistent some good cuts but a lot of bad cuts. So when I found this place which was pretty close to my hotel thought I'd try it out and I'm glad I did. This is my first haircut here. It was probably the best haircut experience I've ever had. Mark was very genial. Started good casual conversations about different topics with me indicative of a barber shop. Showed him a picture of what I was thinking about sporting and cut my hair to fit that image. Trimmed my eyebrows and ears without asking. Razor trimmed my neckline. I highly recommend Mark. Excellent prices-- Will definitely return. read more

Go here. Support local business. Other than the flatscreen TV on the wall, this place is straight out of 1954, but in an old-school vintage cool sort of way. It certainly beats the soulless strip mall haircut places. And the price of a haircut is still the same as it is at Great Clips. Depending on what day you go, the wait might be long, especially Friday and Saturday. Pro-tip: Go during mid-week in the afternoon, you can usually get a cut right away. But even when they're busy they don't rush, they take the time to cut your hair right. So sit down and relax and join in on the conversation. Good people come here, the conversation is never dull. It's as much about the experience as it is the end result. Bring cash, they don't take cards. But they do offer quality haircuts at a fair price. read more

I live in Milwaukee and I am seriously considering scheduling my haircuts around my trips to St. Paul. That's how good this place is. I went, sort of on a whim, to get my shoulder length hair cut very short. The barbers were all stoked to give me such a dramatic hair cut. They even cut my pony tail off to hang on their wall of fame! I went on a Saturday morning and got there 15 minutes before they opened. I was second in line. They had free coffee and donuts! The conversations by the barbers and guests waiting was also tremendous. All in all, it was the perfect experience! read more

I have been getting my haircut at 7th Street Barbers since 2012. I've lived in the Twin Cities for 20 years. I've had my hair cut at a number of different establishments but I've never met someone as skilled at the "barbering arts" as Pete Klein at 7th Street Barbers. He is talented! I leave the barber shop feeling great about my haircut every single time. I have never had a bad haircut there, ever! That's why I keep going back. My wife and I bring our two sons, ages 7 and 5 to get their hair cut by Pete and barber Mark Kern. I think its entertaining and educational for the kids and for us. The small local barber shop ecosystem may not be for everyone but I love it. Some people like the supposed predictability of the chain hair cutting place in the mall. But I've been to a lot of those places in the past and the turnover can be high. One day you get a decent cut and then the next time you come back your "stylist" is gone and no one can tell you where they went. Also, if you want a beard trim or a straight razor shave you are mostly out of luck at those places. One other reviewer commented that he showed up during normal business hours and no one was there. Okay. Maybe he was just really unlucky but its also possible that what he experienced was the reality of working with a small business. That happened to me only once in the almost 4 years that I've been going there. I guess at the time I didn't stress out about it much because I found out that the one barber was sick and the other was on vacation. As someone who has been sick and has taken a day off on occasion I don't feel qualified to judge the situation. But I would say that if your barber is sick, I would hope that he is courteous enough to stay home. Oh and if you are sick you might want to avoid going to the barber so that you don't spread those germs around. If I could give 7th Street Barbers more than 5 stars I would. If my sons were old enough to write reviews, they would probably give Pete and Mark a gazillion stars each. Clearly I feel strongly about this. I just recently discovered 7th street barbers and it has become my go to barber shop in the metro area. There is 3 chairs in the place and has a great old school vibe with some down to earth guys, that will make you feel more than welcome. This place is definitely a little piece of STP history and is actually the 2nd oldest operating business in St. Paul. When I frequently go I personally have Patrick cut and style my hair and beard. He not only has a steady hand but a variety of haircuts and styles that Keep me looking classy for the ladies and leaves me feeling like a million $'s walking out of the building. Master barber Pete whips out awesome hair cuts at a reasonable price. The guy can lay out a real mans haircut no problem. I called in advance to check about making an appointment and spoke with Pete on the phone he explained hair cuts are by walk in only; so on arrival there was three gents ahead of me at around 2:45 pm. I grabbed a 20's theater chair and waited my turn. My wait was distracted by a tv, magazines, entertaining conversation and amusing decoration. The shop itself has a ol' school theme and feel that seems to draw a clientele that represents several generations. when it was my turn i described my ideal cut and after what felt like a a short time in the chair i was finished and out the door with three more people waiting behind me. i was there for a total of 45 minutes and could not be happier. read more

The absolute best place for a haircut. I've never felt so much trust and confidence in anyone person to cut my hair in all of my 24 years. Both Pat and Mark are great at their craft. I've never had Pete cut my hair but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to let him have a go at my hair either. The atmosphere is relaxed and lowkey, the guys all like to talk about a variety of current events and stories always keeping it interesting while you get your cut or are waiting for a chair to open up. They always have beverages on hand if you would care to have a drink while you wait or while getting the cut. Straight up the best service and hair cuts I've ever had in my life. All for a very reasonable price. I am always sure to tip well because they never let me down, they get it right every damn time from the hair cut itself, to the lining up and cleaning up of my beard and the sharpening up on my eyebrows. They are there to please you and I guarantee that you will walk out with a smile on your face and the feeling in your heart that you've finally found the place that you will go to for the rest of your life! I love this place. its got a great, comfortable, atmosphere. I've had both barbers (I forget their names right now) service my head. I have no complaints with either of them. They've got a few small wooden trains and things of that like which is nice because I can swing in with my kid and she will stay occupied while I get my haircut. They do straight razor shaves, which I've had, very relaxing and the guys does a great job. they're knowledgeable about the products they sell and its easy to have a conversation there. This has become my new go-to place. My only point of contention is that, due to my schedule, I have a hard time getting over here when they're open. Not any fault of theirs by a long shot, but it would be nice to swing by here after work and get trimmed up. read more

Great hair cutters at a low price, but . . . they take quite a while to do each haircut and the wait can be extremely long. Arrived at 11:20 one morning with three guys ahead of me and the three cutting chairs also full. Then one of the barbers left for the day and another went out for a smoke. After 55 minutes, two guys were still ahead of me with no end to the wait in sight -- so I left. Went to Sportsman's Barbers at Cleveland and Randolph instead for a good cut that was completed twenty minutes after I walked into the place. I will try other barbers int he future. read more
