Erika can't follow directions and i was very unsatisfied and mistreated. She kept ordering me to do things (that i have never had to do for any other barber) She also messed up my hair, i asked for a trim and i basically have a buzz cut now. There was no point in going there. I will include photos of what i looked like and then what she did. You can clearly see in the photo that she did not give me a simple trim. I am very unsatisfied and will not be coming back to this location or any other gents location in fact. I've never left a bad review before anywhere but felt the need to here. I had gone to the Saint Paul location a few years back and really enjoyed the experience. Moving to Edina I naturally decided to try out this location as well. I'm fairly picky with my barbers but trusted the expertise of this location considering that demonstrated at the last. I came in with specific instructions involving length, shape, cowlick location, and areas of my head to avoid hitting from skin malformation. I provided specific pictures and video references of a hair cut I wanted. I grew my hair out for months but it was all reverted within 30 minutes. I realize that all heads and hair types are different. But the length at which my hair was at before and how it laid was perfectly suited for this style. Firstly, my barber hit one of my malformations so many times that I am still profusely bleeding even after warning of it and it's specific location (You should be able to see it in the pictures actually). Second, after warning of the area In which my cowlick resided and how I wanted to keep it a certain length because the weight allowed it to rest better it was instead shaven down entirely. I picked the hairstyle I have provided in the pictures to allow for this modification with my cowlick for a reason and that reason was tossed to the side immediately. Third, the hair cut barely resembles the one I asked for with the top and front looking shorter along with the sides being entirely too short even nearing the top where I had obviously pointed out multiple times that I wanted to keep weight in my hair because I had been working to grow it out in that area to accommodate my cowlick. I'm at an age where I've run into bad haircuts so many times that it is unbelievably frustrating when I get another one. I know how my hair likes to sit, I know the way it likes to lay, I know where it needs to be weighted for me to like it, I know how my cowlick likes to act up and how to prevent that. I know that I need to grow my hair out for a long time in order for this cut to be achievable which I did. Because of all this I always come in prepared with instructions and examples of what I'd like to have and I don't understand how people cannot get that right. I loved the Saint Paul location and was hoping the best for this one because it is a great establishment. The barber was nice but it seemed like he was overworked and tired after a long day so I don't hate him for it. He did seem to be talented at what he did and took time in his work ,but, he didn't pay attention to nearly anything I told or showed him. Over all I'm just extremely dissatisfied with what happened to me and really hope that it doesn't happen again. read more

I went in because my partner booked me a beard trimming to look nice for a wedding the next day. When I got to the seat, the barber asked what I wanted, I said I really just needed it cleaned up to look nice for a wedding. He then proceeded to start giving me a haircut, which I just assumed was part of the package having not booked it myself. After about a minute he said he was done and I realized something was wrong, so I said that I was expecting a beard trimming. It was only then that he checked his schedule to see what I was signed up for, and we proceeded with the beard trimming. This included a straight razor shave, which he did dry and then went over with an electric shaver, giving me a worse shave than I could have gotten at home. As he was trimming my moustache he did not warn me how much hair would be flying, and I got a ton of hair in my eyes. At the end he did nothing to clean off my face, leaving me to wipe all the hair off with my hands. My moustache was left uneven with one side noticeably longer than the other, which was commented on at the rehearsal dinner I attended that night. My partner also pointed out that the "haircut" I got was also completely uneven, and frankly looks terrible. read more

I'm really not one to leave bad reviews but honestly I left really disappointed. After growing out my hair for months I took a step out of my comfort zone been and saw Gents had some great ratings. Booked an "any stylist" appointment and went in with video/photo of what I wanted. When I get there I showed her the photos/videos asking her if she could do the cut. She said she could and I let her know if not we can just do what I regularly get at great clips. I was in the chair for an hour and a half. She wasn't able to do the cut I wanted.. fine but then she gave me a fade without even letting me know. She called it "taking it in" and the next thing I knew she gave me skin fade that was too high. I would be giving this 1 star if not for Ben. He took the time to chat with me after the haircut to help me figure out what I should do next. read more

Got a haircut from Gents today the Monday before Christmas. I was running pretty late because if the snow storm. I arrived 9 minutes late (just under the 10 minute cancellation window) and was greeted warmly as if I wasn't late and offered a beverage. This was my third time having Erica cut my hair and she was amazing (again). even though I was late, she didn't rush my haircut and took her time and gave me the best cut yet. She could have given me a rush cut to get her back on schedule but she really takes pride in her work and I will look and feel great over the holidays because of her professionalism and talent. Gent's is easily the best Barber I've been to, and I'm a regular customer of Jack's. As someone who never knows exactly what to get, Jack has always given me great suggestions and consistently good cuts. Gent's isn't too pricey either considering the great atmosphere and prompt service. I also enjoy the online scheduling system they use, and it saves me a lot of time. The only downside of this location is the parking, which can be very busy at times, requiring you to park high up on the ramp and walk down a few flights of stairs - but that's not a big deal and certainly not Gent's fault. read more

I walked in and was paired with Allison and it was one of the better moves I made in 2016! We hit it off right off the bat. Allison takes real pride in all of her cuts and the intricate details even a control freak like me can appreciate! I've brought in family members and although they live far away, still try to make the trip down to see her. His wife was thrilled he was finally getting a real haircut and Allison did NOT disappoint. She set us up with fresh looking fades, cleaned up our eye brows, waxed our nose hair and finished it all off with a hot towel. (hot towel comes with every cut but still, it's great!) Ok well FINALLY there is a place us males can go to get "pampered" every once in awhile, it's much more expensive then say a Sports Clips though and that is to be expected due to the service. I had Heidi who was fantastic and held a nice conversation (which I loved) but I could tell if I wanted it to be quite she would have obliged which is always nice sometimes. There is free pop and water which is a nice touch while you wait for your appointment. It is also right next to Potbelly and a Five Guys so you can grab dinner right afterwards.
