I was craving a shaved ice treat and thankfully found one in Avon Lake. The ice is soft and finely shaven with not too sweet syrup. I highly recommend the tamarind and passion fruit syrup. I also had the guava, but it didn't really taste like guava to me - just ambiguously sweet and fruity. My husband had a cookies and cream milkshake that he thought was fine, but nothing to write home about. A small shaved ice is actually pretty darn big and the mochi I added on top were soft and chewy! I visited 808 for the first time tonight and it was SO GOOD! I had gone on a trip to Maui last year and had real Hawaiian shaved iced. I was hooked! I thought I would never get to have anything close to it unless I went to Hawaii again. Boy was I wrong! This is right in my backyard and I think I will be throwing money at this place left and right. They have TONS of flavors - everything from guava to hawaiian punch. You can get a small for $4.95 or a large for $5.95. And for a $1 more you can get vanilla ice cream on the bottom. They also can add whipped cream. The shaved ice is shaved so fine that it has almost a creamy texture to it. It's definitely not like the gross snow cones that you would get from the ice cream truck when you were little. There is plenty of syrup added so you don't have any of that watered down, bland ice at the bottom. They serve them in substantial plastic cups with a rim so you can't spill it all over yourself. (Unless you're talented like me and manage to spill everything on yourself.) You can order at an outdoor window or inside (which is closed right now due to Covid19) and there is also indoor and outdoor seating (also closed for now). So next time you're in Strongsville check it out! You won't be disappointed! read more

Couldn't be happier with our visit to 808 Shave Ice!! Crazy how GOOD and DIFFERENT it is than any other place! First off - all employees were super friendly & in a great mood. The menu was awesome and they had some July specials. My friend & I both tried the Deep Blue Sea (blue raspberry type lemonade) with tapioca pearls.. the best!!! Even had cute little starfish in the bottom! Was so perfect for a summer day. I cannot wait to go back and try the special Hawaiian coffees and smoothies.. and shaved ice! Even the ice in my lemonade was different.. gosh, it was PERFECT! Go get you some 808!! They also have a location at the Cleveland Zoo now :) read more

Skip DQ and go HERE. I have nothing but high marks for this place. Hands down, this is the best shaved ice I've ever had, and my friends agree wholeheartedly. Melt-in-your-mouth ice, not those hard ice balls most places serve. Great selection, including ice cream, but come on, it's all about the shaved ice. Generous toppings too. Very friendly owner and reasonable prices. My summer go-to for sure. Bees are everywhere in the hot summer swarming in and around this place, so beware. Hopefully they'll fix this.
