The pork bone broth in the soup had a great warmth and roundness to the flavor thanks to its pepper. This is broth to warm your bones on a cold day. The pork's sweetness and shrimp's mild brine, in the wantons, gave the soup just a bit of heft as a meal. The banh mi balanced crisp and soft textures with the vegetables and crusty bread that complemented the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. The veggies' pickling was mild in flavor, allowing the other ingredients to shine through. The offerings here come at a slight premium. The sandwich, in particular, was on the pricey side ($16), but the cut of meat easily justified the cost. What a cool take on Vietnamese food - a rotating menu that always features a couple of staples like Pho, spring rolls, and addictive shrimp chips, but always offer a couple of unique dishes, usually fusing other foods - like crab rangoon nachos, a beef sandwich dipped into Pho broth, bahn mi crostini, or my new personal fave - the cold noodle salad! Although the place is on the less traveled west side of C-U, it still seems popular with millennials and especially with Illini student athletes. The place is very clean, the owners seem eager to please and the food doesn't take long. We've now been twice on our jaunts through town and since we've missed the Rangoon nachos, we look forward to our next visit - hopefully the third time will be the charm! read more

The broth is full of the delicious flavor flavors you would expect in a good pho broth and the meat is tender and tasty! The service was fast and friendly. We tried the veggie rolls which were hot and crispy and delicious. We also got some tasty drinks. My daughter and I got the Vietnamese coffee and my boyfriend got a tasty Soju mixed drink that I can't remember the name of now. The bathroom was clean, warm and smelled great. We were visiting and just had to try out 83 Vietnamese Cuisine. It is located in a strip mall in Savoy. There's a good number of tables inside and a few small tables outside but it gets pretty busy on Friday evenings/weekends. You order at the counter and then seat yourself at a table of your choice. We had the spring rolls (pork, shrimp, lettuce, noodles, cucumber, and fresh herbs wrapped in rice paper. Served with a house blend hoisin sauce and topped with crushed peanuts) which had all fresh ingredients. This was followed by a chicken noodle salad bowl (lettuce, cucumbers, fresh herbs, and rice noodles topped with fried scallions and crushed peanuts). Our toddler gobbled it down and slathered her noodles with the fish sauce that came on the side. I had the duck noodle soup (rice noodles with roasted duck) while hubby had the pho (sliced beef, brisket and meatballs with rice noodles in a beef broth topped with thin sliced onions, mint, basil, cilantro, and green onions) with a beef rib. This is a new Vietnamese place in the area. It made me so excited since I haven't found any "solely Vietnamese" places in town. I love vermicelli on a good summer day. Their chicken vermicelli bowl really hit the spot. You can't try Vietnamese food without Vietnamese coffee, it complements the full experience really well. The server was very welcoming and nice. It's a small family run restaurant with a mom and two siblings. They have pretty quick services and check in on you to make sure you're enjoying your meal. Probably one of the top restaurants in the area imo. Their current menu is limited but it really is a strength here. I've tried every single item on the menu and it's difficult to find anything even remotely average. Everything is prepared with care and tastes even better. The dining area is pleasant with a flare of 80's nostalgia sprinkled around you in the form of arcade cabinets and 80's tv shows playing on the tubes. And the staff and owners are some of the nicest people you'll meet. This time around we ordered spring rolls, beef noodle salad bowl, Bahn mi sandwich and pho. The spring rolls were fresh and the peanut based sauce is the perfect compliment. I could order a few of these and have a completely satisfied meal. The beef noodle salad bowl is exactly as described. Refreshing with a wonderful combination of ingredients. I crave it just thinking about it. Top it off with an eggroll for more deliciousness. The bahn mi sandwich was equally great. The bread had the perfect crisp you expect from a bahn mi and the pork flavor is a treat for the taste buds. And finally the pho. I've tried pho at many other restaurants but this is just out of this world. I'm not sure how they do it but the broth is to die for. (He says that when I eventually croak, he might need to replace me with a harem. That's his way of saying he loves me!) I grew up eating pho where there's a huge Vietnamese community. The broth for their pho here is really good and I can tell they put a lot of effort into it. This is where they really shine so I highly recommend it. It truly warms you up from the inside on a cold day or whenever you're wanting some comforting hot soup! The pork baos was decent, had a lot of flavor, though very small for the price. My husband enjoyed their pork rice plate. The owner is very friendly and the service is great. I just wish they would provide the option of adding sprouts to your bowl of Pho. It would also be nice to have sriracha and hoisin sauce at each table instead of having to squirt some in a little plastic container to bring to your table. Keep in mind that our standards for Vietnamese food is very high so I think the average person living in Champaign will absolutely love the food here.
