Never have I been to a gym where I can use a treadmill whenever I want...when typically at other gyms there is most always a wait around that golden workout hour of 5:30pm and 7am. So for those of you who still drive to the gym (yes we live in America where this is reality) and are on the free weights waiting for a treadmill...think about the Y. *I don't have kids. *I've never used the pool.

I remember waking up each morning and having to leave the room to use the bathroom early morning to try to get in there before others do. The stall doors were so short that anyone walking in could see the commode. That being said somebody would always clog the toilet and you would hear the noise knowing the water or the river was going to come downstream and you'd have to put your legs up or you would get wet. Some people would walk right in barefoot like it was a normal walk in the park nothing to see here. And then the mixed showering setup in the partying was way overboard. Many people had the jail mentality where they'd be showering and you'd come in there it's your towel and soap and they'd say oh there's more than enough room under one shower head. So some of us would go to the gym and then shower down there and frequenting many YMCA's this one is probably the most stuck up group of people that I've experienced. You're scared down there working out like everybody else on older machines by the way what business is it of theirs to ask what type of car you driving or how big is your house? Now they obviously knew that we were from the men's wing due to the residential cards that we had and free gym privileges. But some of the people that are stuck up tried to make people feel like they shouldn't be there. And people need to remember people stay at the y short-term or long-term for many different reasons from all walks of life The Good The bad and The ugly. And there might be the good in the bad in the men's wing but the only ugliness I seen was the comments from the people downstairs. If you can avoid this place like the plague. If not make sure to keep your feet up when the river comes running.

Our family has been members of Magic Lincer Tennis Club/Academy for the past 13 years. I enrolled…read moremy oldest child there 13 years ago, and we've continued to return month after month, year after year, because of how impressed we are with the facilities, the coaches, and the way the owners run their family-like business. Over the years, I've visited/been part of many tennis clubs throughout this state, and this is the one where I feel most comfortable, welcomed, and actually heard when I have something to say or have a question. Between the Windsor and Manchester locations, they feature 12 beautiful courts, updated facilities, excellent lighting, and a wide selection of tennis apparel. The courts are always clean and free of debris, and the nets are consistently set at the proper height. In 13 years, I have never seen a light out--they are clearly diligent about maintenance. There is also a lovely kitchen area, which is especially convenient when waiting for your child to be done with their lesson during a busy week, a ladder match, or a tournament. The pro shop offers a great selection of tennis rackets and shoes at fair prices. If they don't have a specific item in stock, they are more than willing to order it for you. Both the club and the academy have numerous coaches with years of experience. With three children at different skill levels, we've had the opportunity to work with nearly every coach. Each one brings their own expertise, knowledge, and constructive approach, tailoring their instruction to benefit each child individually. Having access to multiple coaches is a real advantage--not only for scheduling flexibility, but also because it allows students to learn from different perspectives and develop a variety of techniques. This helps your child reach their full potential--not just on the court, but also by understanding how they learn best as an individual. It also teaches them how to collaborate with others, a valuable skill that will benefit them throughout their life. These coaches help them to come out of their shells and gain confidence on and off the court. I have also seen several clinics over the years where students with a variety of different learning needs have their needs met. It's truly wonderful to see all children given the opportunity to get out, be active, and participate--regardless of their learning differences. I've spent countless hours watching my children play and observing how the owners interact with both current and prospective clients. They are very clear about their policies--whether in membership contracts, on their website, in person, or through regular email reminders. Like any well-run business, they expect clients to follow the rules and regulations of the club, much like an umpire ensures players follow the rules of tennis. Being held accountable, a key component of life! They are transparent, professional, and consistently communicate expectations. Most importantly, they are warm, welcoming, and always willing to go above and beyond to help meet your needs to the best that they can. This is the first review I have ever written for anything, so why now? I've been with this facility for 13 years, and my oldest is about to finish her chapter in high school and move on to bigger and better things. It feels like the perfect time to give back to a place that has been everything I've mentioned and more. Again, I've had the privilege of watching all three of my children grow and develop in their tennis game here. In addition, this facility and the people in it have helped support and shape them into strong, confident individuals, and for that, I am incredibly grateful.

Then the remodel on the inside was lacking. The service was poor as the lady running the place had an attitude. There were blue marks all on our new tennis balls. They required tennis shoes to not scuff the courts but the courts were extremely scuffed. Would not recommend. East Hartford's racquet club charged less for more time and a better environment to play in.

I've been here twice now, once years ago and once just this month (July 2026). After going…read morerecently, I decided it was time to write a review! Ownership has switched hands, and I believe I had a group on both times I went, if you're looking to save a few bucks. My only complaint (at all) would be that it was a little bit warmer than I would've liked, especially once you're moving around and actually doing any sort of activity. Now that that's over, let's talk about the good parts! The axe throwing is super fun, and we all enjoyed it after learning about the rules and safety tips then learning how to hold the axe correctly and throw it, and we continued to get pointers and help as needed if we were struggling throughout our allotted time. All of the stuff we encountered were friendly and personable. One great thing that we learned is a newer offering is that the pool tables, darts, and cornhole is now free! As in, pop in and buy a beer or a hard seltzer for a drink after a rough workday and relax and unwind with free activities in a clean indoor space! We will definitely be returning to take advantage because while I LOVE axe throwing, it could get expensive to do every week. The pizza place in there is different than it was the first time we went. And, it was actually not open when we went at 1 PM on a Saturday, which was fine for us because we had already eaten and had dinner plans later so we were not there for food. Our understanding is that it's a one-man show so there may only be pizza/the restaurant open during busy hours, as opposed to every time Montana Nights is open. Something to keep in mind if you're thinking about eating while visiting.

I'm so in love with you I'll be your saviour, steadfast and true I'll come to your emotional rescue" (Jagger and Richards) A professional organization I belong to was scheduled to hold an axe throwing party/charity fundraiser at Pine & Iron in Hartford last night. But two and a half days ago, they contacted us to cancel because they had closed their doors for good. We didn't want to cancel the event, so what were we to do? Well, Montana Nights came to our rescue and 20 of us had a blast. Our Guardian Angel was manager Carolyn, who worked in a slot for our group, arranged an instructor, pizza and sandwiches from Square Peg, and drink tickets from their bar (beer and axes, what could go wrong?). Anyway, we had a freaking blast at Montana Nights. Our instructor Kyle was great. He gave us a safety talk, demonstrated one hand and two hand throwing techniques, and broke us into two teams for some axe flinging fun. We threw at a conventional bulls eye target, an unconventional bulls eye target where the center moved around, and Tic Tac Toe and Connect Four variations. I threw ten axes in warm ups, and then 20 axes in two ten-frame 4-person team contests. I stuck one out of ten in the warm ups, just one in Game #1, but improved significantly by sticking 4 in the second game. I even had a center Bulls Eye!! By the way, the food from Square Peg was great - lots of different pizzas, grinders cut into fours, and a big salad. Thank you Carolyn and Kyle for saving our event. It was a charity collection event where our members donated new clothing, toys, and household supplies for Madonna House in Norwich, CT. I would love to see Yelp incorporate more of some sort of charity collections at our events. Sort of a "Pay It Forward" philosophy. Everyone can afford to bring a few cans of soup or tuna to donate to a group that needs them.
