Adam Wallach and Ken Barer do an incredible job of running the camp, marketing it, communicating with parents, rallying kids for weekly spirit days -- and generally rockin' it. The kids swim twice day and are given just the right amount of freedom for their age. My guy was thrilled to ride his bike around on trails independently (without a grownup following closely) in mountain biking. Picky eater though he is, he seems to eat decently well, carbo-loading every day at lunch. Kids get occasional treats like fruit sushi, which the kids get to make themselves, trips to an ice cream truck, and cold (not-too-unhealthy) popsicles in the afternoon. Our guy kept telling us about eating fresh strawberries at lunchtime that were picked, he said, from the camp's own strawberry patch. (I can't verify this claim; it did seem like it'd take an improbably long growing season and an awfully, awfully large patch of strawberries to supply all those hungry kids for the summer.) Counselors keep the kids hydrated in the heat, buses are shockingly timely (MTA should take note!). Bus counselors do a great job of communicating bus arrival times. Activities are varied and interesting, including options like "mining," water works, pottery, archery, crafts, farming(!), all manner of sports (tennis, soccer, baseball, etc..) -- and there is always something new going on. My guy was excited to go from the moment he woke up each morning. Yes, the camp is guilty of blatant cultural appropriation -- but we get that at this point, there's monetary value in the branding that makes change difficult. At least they're changing the logo in coming years. We'd be thrilled if they actually taught the kids a bit about the tribes of the Haudenosaunee / Iroquois Confederacy that the groups are named after. (Our son reports that there is some sort of small "museum" on the grounds with a few artifacts found on-site.) We did some of our own research. All in all a fabulous, fun way to spend the summer. Our guy is counting the years until he gets to be a counselor himself.

The teachers are incredible - knowledgeable, kind, fun and patient. They're always available and clearly care about each child's growth and happiness. The classrooms and shared spaces (playground, gym, etc.) are all well maintained and filled with engaging, age-appropriate toys, books, and activities. The office staff is always responsive, helpful, and flexible, always willing to answer questions or help accommodate scheduling needs. We're so grateful for the role this school has played in our children's lives.

They not only fed one of our sons (who has many anaphylactic allergies ), one of his main listed anaphylactic allergens which resulted in us having to medicate him for an anaphylactic reaction, they also kept one of his home-packed lunches over a weekend and then FED him the OLD leftover moldy lunch on the following Monday instead of the new lunch we sent in, despite him complaining to one of the staff in the cafeteria that it didn't taste right, and with our other twin? One of the teenage camp counselors was tired of him taking so long to catch up with the rest of the group (he was lagging behind due to chronic congenital knee problems- he's had seven total knee surgeries as of now at age 14, then was 7 and had already had two knee surgeries), so the camp staff pushed him down a wet slope to hurry him along, causing him to fall on his arm, which caused a buckle fracture= BREAKING HIS ARM. Our son told us a few years later that the counselor kid was frustrated with him and pushed him down the slope and that was why he fell (the camp told us he was "running, racing with the camp staff" ). If we had known at the time, we would've sued (and we've never sued anyone). DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!! I will never, ever recommend this camp to anyone. I normally do not post poor reviews, however this camp scarred us. We've never sent our kids to any other camps after our experience here due to the threats they posed to our kids' safety and health. Our kids have pled with us over the years to go to camps and the same old phrase pops up: "No guys, remember Gate Hill?" Followed by: "Oh Yeah." They ruined summer camps for us as a family. He has been enjoying summers at Gate Hill day camp for three years in a row. Where do I start? The facilities are neat and modern. The staff is very personable, enthusiastic and cheerful and overall the Camp is run very smoothly and professionally. On a day to day basis the Camp runs like a well oiled machine providing the children with a wide variety of activities and different themes for each day. They add some nice personal touches by providing daily summaries of what the kids did each day and text message updates to let you know if the buses are running behind due to traffic. As parents, we couldn't be happier that our son is growing as a person, learning different sports and games and making great friends in a safe and beautiful environment .

I go there…read moreevery 2 days to swim a mile, and although their schedule leaves something to be desired (lap swim usually ends at 8:45 AM, inconvenient for me, and on Sunday mornings, you only get an hour to swim laps in the morning, not quite enough for senior citizens like me, who need 63 minutes), the personnel are now friendly. I don't know about their other offerings, as I do other forms or exercise at home and outdoors, but I hope be able to continue to get swim in without any problems. They're much better than nearby 24-Hour Fitness, which has degenerated greatly since I joined them.

I especially like Carol who worked so well with my son who has some physical delays and required extra time and energy. She was amazing. Tough but loving. And my son LOVES her. My boys were both premature, so they had some core strength issues, and I saw a huge improvement over six months thanks to the classes here. We've been coming to straddles for more than a year now, and my boys love it, and I love the physical and behavioral changes I have seen in them. It has been one of the better experiences I have had with any kind of organized, physical activities. Thumbs up. Big time.

The facility is clean, spacious, and it's great that the party space has 2 floors. My son and his friends had an amazing time and the adults that attended spoke positively of the space. The staff that helped to check in guests, supervised the ninja, relay races and soccer and assisted in the party room were engaged, friendly and easy going. Will definitely return.
