So was wrapping my last meal in Sydney after flying back from Brisbane and preparing for the long journey to LA the next day. I of course had to stay true to my roots and wanted some Korean food and wanted to try a new spot after having hit up Seoul Project the week prior. I walked by this spot and was immediately sold by this beautiful soju Christmas tree made from empty soju bottles. The place was popping and filled with a variety of folks looking to get their soju on. The servers are friendly and they have all the standard pocha items from stews, chicken, bbq dishes, etc.
I of course went with ordering soju which they served in teapots and then decided to order a stew and the spicy pork with tofu as I was looking for something light enough to not be too full for the long journey the following day. I appreciated the music they were pumping out as it was some oldie classics for kpop back before it was the "hip thing" and a good selection bringing nostalgia out. The food came out fairly quickly and the stew was out first. It was good and offered a good amount of veggies and noodles in it. The spicy pork tofu came out next and I was in for a surprise. This thing was not just a tad over salted, it literally felt they had put an entire bottle of salt into the dish. I couldn't even take a bite of it. I feel bad sending back things but I ended up calling someone over and asking for a new dish as it was just too much. They explained to me that it was the normal preparation but they could prepare it with less salt. They did not give me any fuss and brought out a new dish which was thankfully much more in line with normal standards. Neither of the dishes were complex in preparation I felt it was good enough.
I think this place is just OK for me. They were friendly and it offered a quick probably after dinner bite area where you can grab some chicken, soju, and laughs with friends. Recommend for the atmosphere but if you are looking for better Korean food, there are probably other joints. read more
