I like my bus routes to the airport like I like my hookers...clean, quick and cheap*. The Rocket meets these requirements. For $3, you're roughly a 20 minute ride from Kipling Station and you get a free transfer to the subway, so that's not bad. And this time I didn't cry when the ride was over! What prevents this from getting more stars is NO LUGGAGE RACKS. It's the same issue with the buses in NYC that go to LaGuardia. How can you call yourself an airport bus when you don't have room for the big-ass bags people are carrying? The airport bus in Montreal had space for bags, just saying. When I rode it this week, going to the airport it stopped at Terminal 1 first and then Terminal 3 and then headed back to Kipling. My total commute time from Osgoode Station downtown to Terminal 3 was 1 hour and 10 minutes....longer than a cab for sure, but only $3 so I had a lot of extra beer money. The TTC's 192 Airport Rocket bus route runs between Kipling Station and Pearson Airport. The trip takes about 20-25 minutes and costs $3 ($2.50 if you buy TTC tokens). It is, by far, my favourite method of getting to the airport. Sure, you could be lame and take a cab. It's more convenient, reliable, and usually quicker. It will also cost you about 20 times more than the public transit. Besides, cabs are sterile and no fun; public transit is a great way to get a feel for a city on arrival. Unless you can convice a friend to drive you, the TTC offer the best balance of cost, convenience, and speed when it comes to getter to and from Pearson. One star off because the TTC is sometimes unreliable and since the 192 won't work if you have a super early flight. For Departures: Take the TTC to Kipling and catch the 192 Airport Rocket from the bus bay. It will stop at Terminal 3 first then Terminal 1. It stops at the arrivals area so you will have to enter the airport and go upstairs to get to departures. For Arrivals: Walk out of the airport and the bus stop for the 192 Airport Rocket should be right in front of you; it's marked "Public Transit". It stops at Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Take the bus to Kipling Station then hop on the subway (no extra fare) and continue to your final destination by TTC. read more

The 192 Airport Rocket is the cheapest way to get to YYZ. While a cab from downtown will probably run you about $60, all you need for the Airport Express is a token or about $3 cash fare and the willingness to endure bus-people. IMHO: it's so worth it. The Rocket leaves from Kipling Station which is the westernmost station on the Bloor/Danforth subway line. At Kipling, follow the signage to the bus platform upstairs. It should be fairly easy to find. Do note that this is a city bus (in spite of the fancy "Rocket" monniker) which means there isn't a tonne of room for luggage. The bus stops at: -Dundas and East Mall -Terminal 3 (Arrivals Level) -Jetliner Road and Airport Road -Terminal 1 (Ground Level) Service operates from approximately 5:30 am to 2:00 am, six days a week, starting later (8:00am) on Sundays. Travel time is approximately 20 minutes from Kipling to YYZ. The schedule changes on holidays so be sure to check www.ttc.ca before setting out. My only beef with the 192 Airport Rocket is that even for a native Torontonian, it's confusing figuring out how to take it home FROM the airport. The stops are not clearly marked and are seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the airport is very pedestrian UN-friendly and no one working at the terminals knows anything about this bus. Better communication between the airport authority and Toronto transit would definitely help. But as a cheap and easy way to get to Pearson International Airport, the 192 Airport Rocket can't be beat. Save your $60 for reading material or a terminal croissant. Truth is, I had been coming to Toronto for decades and was unaware that there WAS a public transit option to get downtown from the airport. Not that I would have taken it mind you... no, not back in the good old days when the tech bubble was still inflating, expense statements were rubber stamped and being green was indicative of either envy or bad sushi. But this is now. Nowadays I am intimately familiar with the public transit options at many of the planets least friendly airports. While the folks at YYZ have managed to make indifference a high art form, the public transportation link to downtown seems remain on the down-low - both literally and figuratively. The 192 Rocket is nothing more than a good old TTC bus - albeit one of the better, newer ones.... We've all been on one of those, staring balefully at those tourists or iconoclasts that dare to schlep cumbersome luggage aboard. Imagine a couple of dozen on one bus. L_U_G_G_A_G_E RACKS Seriously! Even the tiny vestigial ones that they have on VIA Rail would help... This is a great answer if you work at the airport, feel duty-bound to personally welcome new arrivals to Canada, are traveling somewhere for a couple of days and REALLY only have a small roll-on, or simply really dig the vibe at YYZ (the we have other things to discuss....) I'm giving the airport rocket the five star boost. I've thought long and hard about this, and it really deserves it. In the advent of the Union Pearson train, a train that is going to cost significantly more than public transport, I want to tout this bus! It never takes more than 45 from first subway stop to the airport, and as far as cities go, that's fantastic. And it's $3 not, like, $20. The TTC, that's for me! read more

Obviously it takes somewhat more time than a cab, but you save mucho dinero. Tip: If you are short on time, take the subway to Kipling and if the bus won't get you there in time, hop in a cab at Kipling... at least you'll save a few bucks that way. read more

This is the easiest and cheapest way to get to the airport. Just get off the subway at Kipling and hop on this bus. You'll find yourself shooting down Bloor to the 427 and straight to Terminal 3. After that it makes a stop between terminals then on to Terminal 1. Watch out that you don't get on the 191 though as they pickup at the same stop in Kipling staiton. If you happen to find yourself on the 191 get off at the first stop just before the 427 and transfer to the 192. read more

The reality is that for a meager $3.25 to get to the airport, this mode of transportation is a steal. I've used the UP Express and will say that its nice to have a shorter commute sometimes when trying to get to the airport for a certain time, but if you aren't on a timeline or plan ahead well enough to give yourself the extra 20-30 minutes of buffer time, this is just as good. Coming back into the city from a trip always resort to the Rocket over the UP. It's a quick ride to Kipling which then you transfer to the subway and head downtown as needed. The fact is that the last subway train leaves Kipling at 1:31am each night. The UP Expresses last train is also at 1:30am. So while you need an additional 15-20 minutes to take the bus from the airport to Kipling, in the grand scheme of things these hour differences are so tiny that if you can navigate it, I'll still put my backing into the 192 Airport Rocket as my first choice. read more

I find it a complete disgrace that a city as big and cosmopolitan as Toronto doesn't have a subway line that directly connects us to the Airport. The 192 Express is an acceptable way to get here, but sometimes its a complete pain. I take this bus about 10 times per week (I work at the the Airport) and I cannot help but feel annoyed with this line (And public transit in general) sometimes. Though this bus is mostly on time, I have been considerably late because of it on more times than I wish to remember. The bus schedule shows that this bus should arrive about every 10 mins, and I think about every 7 mins during rush hrs. I find that 15-20 mins is the amount of time I usually spend waiting for this bus (If I have just missed one). Also, at 8am (when I'm often getting off work after a gruelling 12hr shift) I usually end up having to wait up to 30 mins out in the cold for this bus. Now, I know that this is the cheapest mode of transportation to and from the airport, but I can't help but be annoyed by all the people with their giant suitcases who get in my way and block the doors, making it almost impossible for me to get out. Specially when I'm in a hurry. (usually when I'm running late because the bus took longer than expected to arrive at stn) Other than that, this is a pretty decent bus route and the ride from the subway stn to terminal 3 is about 15 mins, and about 25 to terminal 1. read more

Considering the image that Toronto tries to foster as the most cosmopolitan city in Canada. the fact that Toronto doesn't have a subway link from the airport to the downtown core puts it way behind many other cities in the world and is a downright disgrace. The 192 is an express bus (meaning very few stops) that connects Kipling Station to the both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 (Terminal 2 has been demolished). The ride is about 25 minutes and the bus comes every 10-15 minutes or so depending on the time of day. There is not a lot of space for luggage - just the little shelf opposite the driver that can maybe hold 2-3 carry-on sized bags. Most people sit with their suitcases in front of them so trying to wiggle through them is a pain. Also, because this bus takes quite a few turns and then speeds along the highway, if you are unlucky enough to be standing you feel like you are holding on for dear life trying not to fall onto someone's suitcase for the duration of the ride. Luckily this route is always operated on the newer buses so there are no steps to climb and in the summer months there is always air conditioning. read more

As bus routes go, this has ease of use written all over it. For one thing it is pretty much door to door service taking you from the Kipling station non-stop to the airport and vice versa. The lack of stops between means that the time flies, and before you know it you are airport bound. As a bonus people are used to travellers on this route so bring the huge bags and cop a seat. Bottom line...it's the little TTC bus that could and did! read more

The wait for the 192 was tolerable. The transfer at Kipling was easy but it took almost two hours one way door-to-door to Yonge and Dundas. I wish the TTC subway station was at the terminal which would have made it a lot easier. On the flip side, the trip is the cheapest option to and from downtown. read more

This is an excellent ttc route. Gets to the airport very fast from Kipling with minimal stops. can bring all your luggage with you and frequent service. Can't beat the price - $3! I honestly don't know why they bothered building that airport train. I hope they never stop this route. read more
