The WFPK station was originally a stand alone local public radio station and has now consolidated resources at this location. We were thrilled to be invited to the private studio facilities to view a live on-air performance by Soul Asylum for a 1/2 hour Saturday segment. The band was in town to perform at the Bourbon and Beyond Concert in September 2024. Introductions and interview were conducted by radio host Kyle Meredith and meet-and-greet was held afterward with lead singer Dave Pirner !!!

Doors open at 11:30, show starts at noon, and they are finished at 1. You can just brown-bag your own meal, or if you're a public radio member you can make arrangements for a free sandwich from City Cafe. The studio is great, and the musicians are better. I've seen touring acts like the Dirty Guv'nahs and Jason Isbell here, but I've enjoyed even more being introduced to local musicians like Houndmouth and Ben Sollee. I'm a little embarrassed to admit that the shows here are so satisfying that I usually don't bother to go see the bands play their paid gigs afterward. (But I do tend to throw the musicians a bone by buying their CDs.) The down side? Well, the performance studio is limited to 70 people, which means there are no guarantees, unless you're willing to line up early. And because you want to get there a few minutes early, you're committing yourself to a full siesta -- an hour and a half or more -- something most of us working stiffs can't afford during a workday. First of all I do recommend them. They have all types of programing is offered to chose from. Hundred of options at different price levels. Some of my faves are Classic Rewind, Elvis Radio, E Street Radio and 80's on 8. With the app it's no longer just listen in your car, it's listen where ever which is a huge improvement from where they started. After decidIng XM was no longer being utilized as much and no longer in a budget with Apple Music commitment of $16 a month I contacted the disconnect office at 1-866-635-2349. The customer service was fantastic from the woman who tried everything possible to keep me and was professional at all times. We discussed my current annual fee was $104 for a good amount of programming. Nothing lavish and I can't recall what the level was called, but around middle road. She had me on the phone around 20 minutes and at the end gave the the rock bottom price of $4 per month for a one year renewal after confirming all info. That was astonishing. Part of the discount was for customer loyalty. Also a discount for educators, as she learned my wife was an employee at a school. No verification required. This package was for everything XM offered. EVERYTHING including Howard Stern. At the end I still said no thank you and my disconnect was processed and email received to confirm. The representatives was professional at all times and gets a 5 stars from me on how she handled the call. I may come back to XM, but would keep in mind their pricing practices are a bit shady in my opinion. I received basically a 50% discount just by calling. These discounts are tricky. 3.5 rounding down and may see ya again XM.

"Your Life On Shuffle" is the tag line and in between commercial reminders that I could get them on my smart speaker or I could attend the big iHeart music festival, there was music.
